I’ve been Treeplanting in northern B.C. I can tell you that the percentage of trees that would not survive would be too high to make a case for using airplanes. Using people still the best way, as a planter can choose the best spot to put the tree. I’m a student pilot, it was awesome to see you combining two things I love, planting and flying. Thank you.
@johnpossum5565 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure spots matter much. I've been an avid outdoorsman my whole life and some of the stuff I have seen totally amazes me. Once I saw trees on the mighty Mississippi that got blown over in a storm and they were half underwater yet their branches reoriented themselves to grow towards the sun. They're quite amazing in their own ways.
@mitsako15 жыл бұрын
@@johnpossum556 keep in mind only success story trees survive, it's more likely to see surviving trees than dying trees simply because they survive longer
@johnpossum5565 жыл бұрын
@@mitsako1 That depends. Dying trees are important to the environment, too. Bald Eagles use dead trees are hunting perches because they are easier to see from, for example.
@orlandomorgado55 жыл бұрын
John Possum I’ve seen trees growing in impossible places as well, it’s incredible what nature can do. I believe when it comes to make a quick and cheap reforestation project it’s really important to be efficient to be effective. Seedlings used for reforestation are very susceptible to bad planting, which will lead them to a premature death. Me myself having to go to areas that have been planted couple years before by bad planters to fill up the gap of dead trees. What makes those reforestation seedlings more vulnerable is mainly their plugs, that are there to supplement their nutrition needs until it is connected to the surrounding area. There are major faults that would make those trees die, including; over burying, a loose tree, a tree planted too shallow a J rooted tree, a tree planted on a wrong type of soil. The list goes on and on, that’s why the micro site selection is so important and why a good planter will be always more effective than a random spraying of an airplane. The industry of reforestation is suffering from lack of planters, as it is a really hard Job and not many people are willing to spend months in the bush sweating and suffering. I hope that new technologies can come and help us to do a better job, and am eager to see how planting will look like in the future.
@orlandomorgado55 жыл бұрын
John Possum keep in mind that I see the reforestation through the eyes of a planter. That makes me want to be as efficient as possible, and I tend to use our industry specifications of quality to measure the success of a process. And I believe it would be unfair to discredit the use or test of new methods of planting.

Johnny Appleseed is jealous. It would probably work really well after a week of raining. Accurately hitting within a 10 acre parcel might be very difficult in an ultralight, but with a little practice a personal drone may be able to do a better job. Hover in place then move 4' forward until the whole grid is covered. The irony is how many trees needed to be removed to create those empty fields which now make ideal placed to air bomb more trees.
