Hey brother - good video. What's that oil you're using? Shell? What weight. I'm using the XPS from the Can-Am dealer, but it's pricey. Thanks, Old Mort (2019 Defender HD10/XT Cab).
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mort! I have been running Shell Rotella Synthetic because its considered to be a quality oil. I think the manual only recommends Can-Am oil though so use at your own risk. Off the top of my head I can't remember the weight. Possibly 10W40????

Any ideas where oil filter located on 2020 can am limited. BRB Forum stated it faces forward to cab, different cast of engine. Any help here appreciated Thank you
@MontanaDnK
@MontanaDnK 4 жыл бұрын
Found it, front of engine behind fire wall. One thing you better have is an extendable magnet. Inevitably you will drop one of the bolts, I didn't but then the ratchet slipped out of my hand, easy to retrieve as long as you have extended magnet to fish it out. Absolute ridiculous location for access, not shown in manual!
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, that sounds like a much more difficult location! I'm glad you found it. Thanks for your comments.

First of all, thank you for the video. Secondly, it seems to me that for the oil filter bolts there is a recommended tightening pressure, is that correct?
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I just changed my defender oil/filter a couple of days ago. I'm sure there is a torque recommendation from the factory for those bolts but I don't know what it is. It may tell in the manual. Not that it is the best practice, but I normally don't torque items like this with a torque wrench. Just be very careful not to strip the threads because the bolts thread into the engine case (difficult to fix if you strip them). If you are concerned about your ability, find the torque value and use a torque wrench. I'm sorry that I'm not able to help with that torque number.
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your reply plozikou. I checked my user manual and wanted to clarify the torque specs. These numbers came out of the manual for my 2016 Defender. Drain plug torque: 30 Newton-meters (22 foot-pound). Oil filter cover bolts: 10 Newton-meters (89 INCH-POUNDS). Be very careful when you’re reading that. The American/English units are different between the two bolts. One is foot-pounds and the other is inch-pounds. The oil filter cover bolts get about 1/3 of the torque as the drain plug. That is only around 7 foot-pounds for the oil filter cover bolts. I’m sure you know that plozikou but I wanted to make it clear for someone who might read it in the future.

How do you acknowledge the maintenance service alarm?
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Carlos! I have not seen the maintenance service alarm on my machine but this is what the manual says (it appears the process is the same for both gauge styles): To erase the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED message, proceed as follows: 1. Select PARK. 2. Turn ignition switch to ON. Do NOT start engine. 3. Set the cluster to odometer display. 4. Press SET button on the multifunction gauge and keep it pressed until step 6. 5. Switch the high beam On-Off three times rapidly. 6. Turn ignition switch to OFF. NOTE: Steps 4 and 5 must be completed within 5 seconds. NOTE: Do not turn ignition switch to ON before the multifunction gauge turns off.

Dealer told me oil needed to be changed at 200hrs. Thought it was a no break in period engine and no maintenance until first year or so? I know it doesn't hurt.
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 4 жыл бұрын
At the moment I can't remember what the manual says but I like to get the fine metal out of the engine after a short break in. 2.5 years later I still only have about 110 hours on it. I wouldn't want the original oil in there that whole time.

I'm running Rotella T6 synthetic. It can be used in diesel or gas motors. I believe if you read reviews on it, you'll find that it's' a high quality oil. Of course you're free to run whatever you want in your machine.

What weight oil do you use or r e commend. I saw rotella synthetic. Do you buy oil filters from dealership. Also was curious about other required maintenance like grease fittings, rear end and front diff , and transmission diy maintenance. I just bought my HD8 used and want to go over everything so i know its tip top shape.
@GodsCountry
@GodsCountry 6 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, I used Rotella T6 synthetic 5W-40. The dealership filters are pretty good I think but I ordered a K&N oil filter. It's probably a similar quality to the Can-Am factory filter. The manual should have oil type and quality guidelines in it so you should take a look at those. I wouldn't want you to use a certain oil or filter and have it be a problem for your warranty.
