Alot more work than I expected. Gonna give it a try today, but outside, in a blizzard

Add me to the lost of people hating the design and winch that comes on these machines. The pocket the winch is installed doesn’t allow one to watch the line spool. Can’t see it to guide it in properly so it gets kinked and breaks prematurely. Also, the HD winches are cheap and die prematurely, and the solenoid is poop as well. I had dealer install an hd3500 in 2020, on my 650 xmr and it died after a few uses.. Just bought a new one because it installs easily, but don’t expect it to last. Thanks for the video. I wasn’t sure how to deal with the front of the plastic skid plate cover and now I know. Also, thanks for naming the fastener sizes.

Thank you for your videos. Very informative. I have a new winch and it’s just about a year old. It’s used for plowing. And cable broke. Going to fix it tomorrow. But am really pondering getting synthetic rope. Don’t look like it’s bad to change out. Thanks again for the video.

Try the decafe coffee, it would make watching your videos easier.

I think a 3/16" rope might have fit through the drum holes. If it had fit, would you have threaded it through all the holes like the original steel cable? Do you think the set screw and friction would have been enough to hold the rope securely?
@Maxsmotoshop Жыл бұрын
Yes, if you get a smaller rope and passes through the same way as stock, you will be just fine

I have a 2024 Outlander 700 xt and I'm taking out the steel cable and installing synthetic rope but I forgot to measure the distance between holes for the bolts for a new hawse fairlead. Do you happen to know that measurement on the new gen3's? Thanks.

What happens when you get to the very end of the line that eye let will not hold
@Jerrys_missing_finger9 ай бұрын
Should always keep 6 to 8 wraps on the spool. That puts the load on the spindle not the cheap and point of failure eyelet. Secure point just keeps it tidy.
@hannes22898 ай бұрын
@@Jerrys_missing_finger in my opinion several wrappings is ok but will also hold not too much. Best will using the right rope size so it fits in the holes, but if not i would go for a half hitch, because so you are automatically press the rope underneath and you have some more friction which prevent slipping of the spool.

Just replaced the cable after very light duty twice. It was already starting to kink etc. My new rope is already showing signs of wear? I bought Hunter 3/8. Should I have bought heavier? Also, it's a 2022 650 XL and only has 18hrs on it, I added a plow recently and the button for in & out is backward. In is out, out is in, can I simply change a connection, if so where would I.
@Maxsmotoshop2 жыл бұрын
3/8 as a pretty heavy rope maybe check your fairlead and make sure there’s nothing sharp or gouges that could be causing premature where… as for the old is in and in his out you can simply change the two power cables going to the winch swap them over👍

Could have wound the new rope on by pressing the out button and instead of in as well. I Done that before lol.

Max, i have a 23 850XTP and Im following your steps. Does the cover just pull back to gain access to the winch mounting bolts? I removed the bottom 2 but it feels like I will break it pulling it away. How does the cover pull back after removing the bottom 2 bolts?

I’m into the same problem here atm, how did you got about taking the winch out?
@michaelmatchee28 күн бұрын
hey max,, that panel popping off question? are there clips holding that plastic cover as well as the bottom two screws? feels attached on my 23 xmr1000,,, any help much appreciated n wanted to say thanks for all the great vids you do.
@michaelmatchee27 күн бұрын
Just to add, yes there are two 8 mm plastic threaded screws on the inside. My head nearly fit between the tire n fender to see the screw, tight fit haha. At least on my 23 outy xmr. The panel now lifts forward so much more now. Keep the videos coming max.

What size thickness was the synthetic rope u installed? Great Video Man👍 I heard if u use 3/16 thickness you can put 50 feet on but if you use 1/4 only 40 feet……but not sure

Great video. Informative and to the point. Did you put the red paint near the end of the cable to mark the unspooled end or did it come that way?
@Maxsmotoshop Жыл бұрын
The rope I used came that way

Your going to make someone mess their quad up by leaving the battery hooked up they going to watch you and thinks its ok should have been the first thing you did pretty much 🤦
