I've done this many times as I own three Spyders. The first manual part is obviously to flush the fluid (25 pushes). The second part the software does nothing but hold your hand, watching the switches for the bleed. I just did this procedure on a 2008GS that I just put new brake pads on. Didn't need a flush, and I know how to bleed brakes the normal way. So I did the old fashion non-computer way (including VSS) and was fine. Checked pressures with BUDS to confirm. Now the one thing that I hear a lot is if you turn the key on at the wrong time (not connected to BUDS) it will mess up your VSS settings (trip to dealer). So lock the key in your car. My bike after the new pads popped the scrolling "Brake Failure" error, and I knew I had to bleed the VSS (spongy pedal). The best part of your video is showing how to access the VSS bleeder!! Some people said in forums they took off the whole front end, got sliced and diced, etc!!

Yeah, It is odd that the manual has you bleed normally, (minus the VCM), and then do it again. I purchased BUDS so I could disable DESS and now since I have it, I thought I would show the procedure. If I didn’t have BUDS, I would not think twice about just doing a normal brake bleed.

Excellent job man !! ... I love how the B.U.D.S Cycles the pump !! Because I don't have the B.U.D.S my only choice is to bleed the brakes & go for a Ryde & hit the brakes hard several times to activate the ABS Pump ... & Then bleed them again! It's just so dam expensive to buy & get the B.U.D.S imported into Australia ... Costs nearly double! Another brilliant Vlog brother 👍😁🤘🤟 Beanie

Thanks that was really informative. I wish I had seen this video before ordering the parts for my 2012 RT, hopefully when they arrive they are the correct parts. Thanks for explaining the method of correctly fitting the master cylinder caps. I removed mine to check the fluid levels, cleaned the surrounding plastic and refitted them and got fault C1282. I hadn’t added any fluids. Anyway hopefully bleeding will help.

@daveyJ2133 жыл бұрын
Hey! Fantastic video. Questions: is that an official mechanics manual for your trike? Those are available to purchase I am assuming? What is BUDS? Software? Is the computer needed for every brake bleed, or did you just demonstrate two different methods, one with the computer and one without? I thought you were done when you manually bled the brakes. Was the computer necessary to let the trike computer know the job was done? Thanks for the post. I really appreciate the "real world" look at what it says to maintain your Can Am. I'ver heard that servicing is really pricey. I think servicing must be factored into whether to purchase or not.
@ItsYoursOWNIT3 жыл бұрын
The procedure according to the shop manual is what I did. It has you do a normal manual bleed then bleed using BUDS to exercise and bleed the VCM (which is the anti-lock brake module). If I didn’t have BUDS, I wouldn’t think twice about doing just a conventional brake bleed and calling it good.

Is it mandatory to do the BUDS bleed test if the manual bleeding process is done correctly? P.S. another excellent video!
@ItsYoursOWNIT3 жыл бұрын
If you asked a dealer, they would say absolutely, of course. If I hadn’t purchased BUDS to disable my DESS system, I would have just done a regular bleed with the last bleeder being the one on the VCM and never looked back.

@ItsYoursOWNIT3 жыл бұрын
As long as it starts and runs, I wouldn’t hesitate buying a 2014 or higher Spyder (1330). I would probably run some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner through it and change the oil and coolant so you know you are good.

@@davidvuchetich3045 on my RT, the bleeder on the rear caliper is on the front of the caliper. There is no cover in the way. The parking brake cable does run by it but no need to move it or take anything apart to replace the bleeder.

Seems that the BUDS system is a costly operation. If you have any knowledge about breeding brakes using the Speed Bleeders, doing the BUDS system is a redundant operation. Even the pressure test is useless since the warning light will come on if there is an error. That check should be completed BEFORE riding the machine. I guess it's BRP's way of covering there 6... I have the wife check the fluids, lights, horn and air pressure before every ride. An ounce of prevention..... Good Video!
@ItsYoursOWNIT3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, the only advantage I really see to using BUDS is being able to activate and bleed the VCM.
