Very interesting test the petrol engine had characteristics that you will never ever get with an EV no matter who makes them and this video proved that. Yes you can have fun in both however I know which one I’d prefer to drive in ice or snow conditions

Actually the reason all manufacturers use ice driving in their test programs is it highlights handling characteristics of cars at more slower speeds in a safer environment. They are a great way to tune weight balance, traction and stability systems and of course winter and all season tyres 👍

Aside from fun, shows that when it snows EVs are more difficult to control. We do get snow occasionally in U.K., and could be even worse with EVs on the road😂 of course Norway has many EVs and more snow. Weight and accelerator control etc seem to be factors.

@@mikewallace1723Norway by law has all cars fitted with snow tyres in winter and the EV’s have proved no problem.

I’m gonna sound like a bore with this… what was the point of this video? Are Maserati expecting Grecale buyers to drive in conditions like that often? Are they claiming the world should be paying attention to the cars off-road abilities or it’s all wheel drive system? I waited throughout the whole video and still didn’t know why the car was there? Personally, I don’t think it showed the car off particularly well at all - and that’s nothing against your driving!! Nothing wrong with the overall quality, Pete - it was another good video 👍. In addition, watching you drive the EV variant looked painful - what a handful! 😅

You do need to lighten up a little 😜 The video was meant to be a bit of fun whilst showing cars dynamically in a way difficult to do in warm dry weather 🤷♂️

Here, in Montreal, we experience that sort of driving all winter. However, public roads are obviously not an enjoyable testing ground. And, the constabulary frowns upon drifting. How conservative! Thanks for another informative and entertaining clip. Happy Holidays to your family, human and canine.

I find it very curious that a company like Electric Classic Cars is able to convert an ICE vehicle to electric and despite generally having a decent sized battery system are keeping the overall vehicle weight very similar to what it was with the original power train but manufacturers like Maserati here have this massive weight difference for essentially the same vehicle.

I think one is fitting bespoke packs to older cars and one has a heavier pack due to manufacturing efficiency and ease. Plus todays modern EV’s have such good systems designed to look after the pack in hot and cold climates maximising the range. The bespoke Car conversions don’t have the range but remain as true to the character of the original Car as they can.

I’ve always wanted to do one of these Ice driving days. Every manufacturer seems to have them with invited guests. “ Does sir or Madame like a frozen lake with their Porsche” 😁 I imagine it teaches Car control. Me and Ped are similar age and the few times I’ve needed to react in ice and snow and reacted well without thinking instantly is because of all the stupid fun when I first passed and took the cars silly places and deserted car parks to spin them around and see the limits and how to correct. Maybe I’m wrong and it doesn’t get imprinted in your mind but many many years later to this on ice and snow to react instinctively to get out of trouble. Even in the dry a few years ago I came round a country road (main road) A82 and a car had broken down on the other side on a bend and a Morrisons HGV was overtaking the stranded Car on our side and the girl in front in her Fiat 500 panicked and went sideways but we had no warning and traveling at 50 mph. I always was pleased with the way I reacted, calm, cool and in control to not ram into the back of her and put it down to a track day and driving course taken years ago on how to stop safely. Yes the systems in our Cars these days are brilliant and I could appreciate them at work with me to come to a complete stop as straight and as quick as it did. The girl only panicked a bit because she didn’t realise how quick a modern Car can stop if needed and had already decided to go up an embankment but the car stopped before it was a thing. Scary yes, no one hurt but I bet she is now a better driver for the experience. Ps hope you got to keep the beanie hat 😂 plus to me the EV in normal driving not trying to drift (sorry I don’t have a private frozen lake) will be better for everyday winter driving.

Did you find that your EV drive improved with time, as you pointed out the power output is different to ICE cars (pun intended). ALso did you time your efforts, the lack of noise in an EV can mask the real speed you are doing. (No noisy motor)
@PetrolPedКүн бұрын
Yes I improved with time as you get the hang of it. Didn’t time as that really wasn’t part of it. If you try and go too fast you get get loads of understeer 😂

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here? ICE better than EV? If we ever had ice like that in this country - regardless of what car I had I would be sat at home with my feet up watching news reports of people stuck in a ditch. It happened to me once in the 1980’s and I don’t want to repeat the experience
@PetrolPed14 сағат бұрын
It was just demonstrating that two cars with different powertrains can have very different handling characteristics. The ice just makes that easier to show. In the real world what that means is people that drive an EV to the edge of its performance envelope should be aware that when it does lose grip it could well do it quite quickly and be difficult to catch.
