The almost Kafka like episode where he gets imprisoned for NO discernable reason after pulling off a huge heist was really great for me. The court scene, everything. It does an amazing job of highlighting how the empires tyranny effects everyday people.

A friend of mine had that as a critique. He felt it silly that he got caught for jaywalking. I told him that that was entirely the point, he escaped a heist and did serious damage only to be apprehended for a triviality due to the very actions he made before that. He couldn't grasp that notion. Andor is one of the best pieces of television I have seen in the last 10 years if not 20. If they can give 90% of the first season I will be happy.

I remember back when Andor Season 1 came out, no one was interested and most said they weren't gonna watch. Now that people have had time to go and let word of mouth build, they're expecting season 2 to be just as good, so more are willing to watch. I'm going to bet that if Skeleton Crew was given a season 2, by the time it rolled around, it would have the same "I'm gonna watch it" ratings.

I feel like Andor has a very similar vibe to a lot of the EU content before Disney took over. It covers some more obscure characters from the movies, and as a result I think it's more character driven than some of the bigger, flashier content.

@@janarkolemees I genuinely have to disagree. Andor may not be the most insanely intriguing character, but the whole point of the show is to push the stories of the people affected by everything. Look at the prison arc/ Marv/luthen/ Kinos speeches, etc are all examples of top tier writing and making you feel the tense nature of how the empire really took control and actually ruled a galaxy lmfao. Most other shows have things written so childish that it just makes everything unbelievable, it’s just eye candy at this point in my opinion

Andor is actually in a very interesting spot. I've seen a lot of geek culture channels, some of the more hardline ones, say that Star Wars is dead. Then they'll pop in and say, "Hey, that Andor was actually pretty good," and go back to saying Star Wars is dead. So I'm really excited for season 2 and to see the reception for it.

I originally was never even going to watch the 1st season of Andor as a spinoff show of a character from Rogue One wasn't that interesting. Boy am I glad I gave it a shot. It's not just a good Star Wars show but a great show in general with a mature tone and a level of writing I never thought it would get. I mean the whole prison arc in season 1 could be its own show. Needless to say, Andor season 2 will likely be the last Star Wars show I view until we see the same level of quality writing and care put into their characters.

Andor season 2 is the (2nd half of the Andor novel). According to Tony Gilroy himself this is His best work yet! He's not a Star War's fan so for Him to say something this profound is worth noting. And the x-factor in my opinion is the same writers from season 1 are basically back again. From Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon & newcomer Tim Bissell. And the composer is back from season 1 with a new score heavily inspired via Rogue One. I have no doubt this is going to be absolutely amazing. Reason being they actually have a writer's room for Andor. Something that D+ series obviously never even heard of. Skeleton Crew was quality, no hate there. Only got D+ once. Andor! Nuh said!

Andor was and is by far the best content that Disney+ have shown.A consistently high production quality,a great script delivered by multiple interesting characters played by competent actors. This is what we could have had for the last decade where quality is the headline over Disneys self destructive priority of endless DEI…..they forgot Star Wars is supposed to be a long time ago and set in a galaxy that’s far,far away from our current day nonsense. Kennedy needs to leave this alone,Tony Gilroy did a great job with S1 and Rogue one.

@TheAcidwire but how? Do you feel the fanbase wants to go before the prequel era to explore jedi/sith/force because after return of the jedi it was clear the force was balanced, sith were no more, and Luke was the last jedi. Before the prequels released I guess Luke could start a new jedi order BUT after the prequels established a prophecy and the actual jedi order it's clear Luke is the last jedi. Their teachings died with Yoda. Luke got a shitty jedi training that even prequel era padawans would've considered insufficient

What would bring a fan back is a hard question to answer. I think it starts, however, with cleaning house at Lucasfilm and hiring competence. Not fanboys, necessarily - Filoni has shown how traveling down that road can go. But competence - someone with a vision and who's produced previously, i.e. Tony Gilroy, and a plan to execute. I'd also make a point that whoever comes in should come in with a crew to 'formalize' things like rules and maps - no more of JJ's 'hyperspace skipping' B.S., or having Exegol with the Death Star remains that a dagger conveniently manages to align with. No more World Between Worlds. Set a canon, set a timeline, adopt the good parts of the old EU (i.e. Revan and KOTOR amongst others) and go from there. Additionally, show some respect for the scale of the universe and all the alien species - like, apparently, parts of Skeleton Crew did - by having stories about the Duro, Ithorians, Mon Cal, etc. etc. Recast the Skywalkers as necessary, maybe follow a sequel with Wedge Antilles and Ackbar fighting some big Galactic threat, have Luke show up in a key point, etc. But basically, I'm not coming back until they've made steps to reconcile with the fans. Nothing in the pipeline besides Andor S2 has earned my view.

Fans kinda have left if viewership is a metric. Mandalorian has been the only star wars show to grow in viewership season after season that we know of. The animated shows haven't even slipped onto viewership charts despite fan praise like the bad batch. Andor season 1 viewership was the lowest of these shows until acolyte and skeleton crew surpassed it. So with fan word of mouth and praise of the few who watched season 1, season 2 premieres will be a litmus test of "if lucasfilm makes quality shows, will fans watch it."

If Andor was instead a “rebel moon” show or what have you, I wouldn’t have given it a shot. I don’t think I would have liked it if it wasn’t set in Star Wars. It enhances the greater Star Wars story, I’m invested in the inner workings of the rebellion and ISB. I would have liked this show even if it was Kenobi/Ashoka quality. The fact that it has S tier acting and writing made it a 10/10 Star Wars show for me. As for those who think it is boring- I get it. The show lost me a bit on first viewing during the planning phase of the heist when Andor and company were roughing it in a field for what felt like two hours. But I later appreciated it based on the secrecy of their op, the dedication of the members, and on what was a low chance of success/survival mission that they were still willing to go on.

The question isn't if it'll come back, but if people even WANT TO come back. Over the years, Star Wars has not only been losing fans but has been growing a hatedom. And it's a hatedom not grown by former or current fans who are angry and frustrated at the current state of the fanbase - but people that enjoy watching Disney fail and suffer and get a sense of schadenfreude. There are a growing number of people who see the flaming train wreck and aren't sad or angry but are just thinking: "Man, this is hilarious! Let's go and throw some gasoline and see this last! I am at a point where, realistically, i don't think there is anything that could convince me to become a regular viewer again. Even Andor, which i found phenomenal, left a bad aftertaste because at the end of the day, its still part of a universe that ends up as utter garbage somewhere down the line. Its like the train was derailed long ago and Andor simply built a few meters of tracks but when that's over, there's nothing to save it. The damage is done and I honestly think only a complete reset or at the very least a relaunching of the EU could convince me to return. Some might say this is just nostalgia speaking but as someone who grew up with the Clone Wars and Prequels, not even Bad Batch managed to reignite the passion i once had for the franchise. In fact, its the older Legends novels that are doing that for me now. Reading the Thrawn Trilogy and X Wing series, those stories feel so much more like Star Wars to me than even Andor managed to accomplish, despite being a brilliantly written show.

Damn, hearing Thor lump Ahsoka in with Kenobi is tragic after he tried so hard to love her show. The current state of Star Wars is a steady siphoning of good will 😢 To answer your question about returning to Disney SW, I think I’d need to see a consistent commitment to writing quality as a starting point. Andor is proof that Disney can make media that speaks to contemporary issues while grounding it in the SW universe. They just have to put in the time and effort. I also want to see them move away from the OT era and tackle their own material. Obviously they would need to do that competently (ie not how they handled things in The Acolyte), but I hope they can stop riding the coattails of Legends material and do something fresh with the IP. It’ll be a slow process. As they said, trust is slowly gained and easily lost. But I’m open to (and hoping for) improvement!

Which Kathleen Kennedy films or shows do you feel should be the standard writing wise to aim for? Also how many films or shows would you consider consistent, 2,3,4,5, more? Also what era would you want lucasfilm to explore, would the far past like the dawn of the jedi era be an era you'd like them to explore or do you prefer lucasfilm move forward in the star wars timeline past rise of skywalker?

I think Andor works, because it adds depth to the larger world surrounding the Skywalker Saga. Rogue One is the only movie I respect from Kennedy Films, simply because it's the perfect intermission for both Lucas Films Trilogies. The movie shows us the sacrifice it took for those plans to get on Leia's hands. Also shows the first step for the rebellion to take that leap against the Empire, and most importantly the fear of the members of the Rebellion to the that big step. Now Andor shows us the reason for that fear. It shows us the people's side during the beginning of the Empire, and merges the story from a political to a heartful one, AKA from Prequels to Originals.

Honestly was talking with a mate about Andor during dinner last night, and we agreed that it was in fact the best Star wars there is (yes including the OG movies, which i absolutely love) the story is just top notch, the acting is great, and it is a show that works for me as an adult in terms of actions/consequences etc. I am so hyped for S2 that i fear i am gonna get disappointed simply because it is so good and i fear it will be like trying to follow up a show like True Detectives S1.. Which as i am sure most will agree never reached the same heights again. Anyway @Thor, you say thank you to us for being here, i wanna say thank you to you and your missus for making good content for us to enjoy :)

I think the “what will bring you back” question was really interesting. I had to think about it, and here’s what I came up with. I had to think about what I loved about this franchise so much and what it’s missing now and I would say they need to bring back FEELING and EMOTION, primarily through MUSIC. I think as kids there was just an indescribable “Star Wars” FEELING we all had seeing Luke look into the sky while “binary sunset” was playing. As a child I was somehow able to FEEL the love between Anakin and Padme through the song “Across the Stars” and then there was the FEELING of conflict and betrayal in “battle of the heroes” To me, Star Wars entire emotional core is MUSIC, and now that the music has become forgettable (minus the mandalorian theme) I think we’ve lost our emotional connection to the franchise. I don’t love Star Wars anymore because it doesn’t make me FEEL anything, anymore.

Great Video, Thor. Andor, like all Star Wars, is filled with incredible moments of entertainment. I wish more Star Wars fans could find the enjoyment in the live action content, rather than waist their time hate watching. To your question of what would appeal to most fans, it’s got to be Knights of the Old Republic. Imagine if Disney was able to tell a fun adventure like the original trilogy within the timeline of the Old Republic! Make Darth Malak the bad guy and Revan the hero who must overcome his dark past to save the galaxy. Bastila could break Revan out of Republic prison to enlist him on a mission to kill Malak. Think Michael Bay’s “The Rock” meets A New Hope with all the KOTOR characters and story beats.

I think that I would like more Andor-like thoughtfulness, world building, and general moral complexity in other shows that aren't political dramas. I would have enjoyed the Mandalorian season 3 more if they had given some depth and scope to Mandalorian society -- the clans and their Chieftans, the competing sects and ideologies, the state of Mandalorian space and its many worlds, etc. Instead we get a flat, almost childish vision of two small groups arguing about the circumstances in which one may remove one's helmet, and we get the distinct impression that in a galaxy of quadrillions (at least) of beings, there are 2 or 3 Mandalorian worlds and a max of like 200 Mandalorians, if we're being generous. It's not all that hard to at least make savvy references and hints towards the larger world which give the impression of depth and scope, like was done in A New Hope, or better yet, take your time to draw out the story in a natural pace that allows you to develop these things, and the relevant characters which elucidate them, more fully. Same goes with Boba Fett and the criminal underworld, the politics of Tatooine, or Boba's own moral perspectives and how they change or shift. Or Ahsoka, where we could have gotten a thoughtful exploration of the budding New Republic, its failings and bureaucratic apathy, the conflict which could have been derived from the different values and goals based both on Ahsoka and Sabine's personal mindsets and cultural backgrounds as Jedi and Mandalorian, the reasons why some people might choose to side with the Empire even after its defeat rather than a glib single line about greed, or the cyclical nature of conflict and the way it shapes civilization across eternity, and how even utopian (or, I suppose, apocalyptic) ideologies that seek to end those cycles end up playing the same eternal game. But either because the writers and various execs don’t think general audiences are smart enough to engage with that stuff in even moderate doses punctuated by action and drama, or perhaps because they themselves aren't bright enough or skilled enough to write and realize such stories and characters, we get shallow and simplistic crap. Ultimately, at least for me, it's not that I want more Andor-like shows and movies, it's that I want every Star Wars show or movie to be imbued with the same thoughtfulness and care for detail that Andor has, whatever genre or theme is being explored.

In fact, they need to have Thrawn at least appear in the Mando movie leading into Ashoka and movies that follow from there. They don’t need Mangold saying he wants to write his own story, and they don’t need to have the Ivers movie or any other movie to come before this. The films in this timeline need to be finished first, and they need to stick to and honour the lore, all with great writing (which should not even need to be said), period.

Hey Thor, I’ve got a question for you: What do you think of the idea of bringing Sam Witwer in, as Maul, and giving him some word to say? I do not necessarily mean in Andor 2 (even though I personally think that this could work well, if done properly). Dang he could even play Star Killer, but I think he really portraited Maul so good in the animated shows… However, Maul has an interesting connection to Palpatine and thus, Vader. After all, these two embody the dark side during that period, and having a show (if run properly) about the Imperial Underworld with Maul could be an interesting setting for answering a question raised in Rebels: How does Maul know he can not defeat Vader? Have they met? Faught? Or are the visions Maul had during the clone wars finale enough to explain that comment to Ezra? There are a lot of intersting plots to explore, IF DONE PROPERLY! For me personally, the force and all aspects surrounding it are the most interesting parts of Star Wars. I really enjoyed Andor, yet, I wonder when there will be a properly done Star Wars show that gets this theme and all its aspects.

We all know the pop culture cycle right? Every 20-30 years what's old is new again. What went out of style is now popular again: clothes, colors, music and of course movies. This happens because those who were kids when that stuff was in are now adults with disposable income, wanting nostalgia and the most important part of this example, have kids. We need more shows like Andor to get the apathetic adults back into Star Wars. This needs to happen first. Why? So these parents will trust Star Wars to be quality again and therefore share it with their children. There's room for more productions like Skeleton Crew but they have to come in phase 2. Phase 1 of rebuilding Star Wars requires recapturing the adults. Phase 2 would be introducing a new generation to Star Wars.

Quality pure and simple, it doesn't matter if it's horror, comedy or grit, romance, drama or whodunit, it doesn't matter if it's star wars, marvel or lord of the rings, Disney, Warner or Paramount - Quality. As you said, the problem isn't money or funding of star wars projects. I actually didn't watch Andor because I knew it was star wars - I watched it because of one trailer I saw 8-9 months after the show had streamed. My first reaction was, "oh my god this looks, sounds and feels amazing" - I only realized it was star wars at the end of the trailer. Now for the star wars purists that's probably a problem because it didn't look or feel like what you thought or say star wars should be - no offence intended - but it felt "normal" and something I could watch and enjoy without worry of getting lost. What a 23 year old thinks is quality may not be what a 33 year old thinks is quality, and what a star wars fan thinks is quality may not be what a "normie" like me thinks is quality, but everyone knows it when they see it. This is going to sound like an attack on star wars but (from my experience of trying to understand and "get into it"), star wars always felt or feels off the mark. Why can I believe and connect with a talking racoon in Marvel, a mad crazed hobbit in lord of the rings (Gollum), and a random robot I never knew about in Andor but never have the same connection or need for feeling in the rest of star wars. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The answer is simple: No The first season of Andor was not that popular and despite the outstanding quality it did not arouse the general enthusiasm and passion of fans for Disney productions. Unfortunately but now I dare to say it, we have reached a moment of pure apathy, I really do not envy the people at Lucasfilm because this problem will only grow and slowly "kill". Such things are very difficult to fix. Hostility and hate meant that fans want to fight, they want something good and they want something good from Disney's hand. The lack of fight and constantly decreasing numbers say that fans have given up and do not care anymore what Disney does. And in my opinion the numbers of Andor season 2 will be similar to seson 1 if the quality will be good. I do not believe that suddenly the numbers will be gigantic because of season 1 numbers and observing the numbers and enthusiasm of fans after the productions that have premiered now.

Hey Thor. Ngl, I was one of the people who consistently voted that I wouldn't be watching Skeleton Crew up until it ended. However, since then after watching your reviews of it, I actually gave it a chance.. And honestly, Skeleton Crew, Imo is some of the best star wars that has ever been released under disney. I have genuinely not felt that way watching star wars, outside of watching Episode 4 - which I feel catches a lot of the same vibes in a way, albeit while still managing to entirely different. I can honestly say it was some of the best star wars I've ever seen, and checks off boxes for seriousness and cool world building as well as some degree of dark tones, while STILL managing to hit a similar feel to the old ewok movies. I have honestly not cared for any star wars characters more than these kids, since watching the prequal trilogy, and I found myself wanting to know what happened next so bad at the end of each episode, that I ended up binging the show in a night. With that in mind, I find it so beyond heartbreaking that the vast majority of longstanding fans like myself will be missing out on this amazing show, because of the Hackleen Kennedy has allowed a bunch of people to take a steamy dump on the franchise unchecked up until this point, while pushing a borderline toxic woke agenda and using that as an excuse to attack the fanbase, rather than admit what they're doing just isn't working. I will say this though, I do love the duality that LucasFilm has achieved with Skeleton Crew and Andor (Albeit likely unintentionally). Andor gives me everything I could want in terms of nitty gritty story telling set in the star wars setting which I bloody love, where as Skeleton Crew gives me some of the best adventure vibes I've seen in star wars since Episode 4. In short put together, these two shows put together, nearly gives me EVERYTHING I could want out of star wars, minus the Jedi Sith stuff, though that could potentially be explored down the line in both those shows.. However with the terrible ratings thanks to Acolyte, do you think there's any chance we might even get to see a season two of Skeleton Crew? Hey Thor, to answer your question. I don’t think I’ll ever be as invested in Star Wars as I once was. I’ll definitely come back to watch an excellent show like Andor, and if they produce more series of that caliber (or close to it), I’ll likely give them a chance. But I can’t get past the fact that the six original Star Wars movies now feel meaningless. Episodes VII-IX completely undermined the adventures we grew up loving-those stories, those struggles, were all rendered pointless in the new canon. That’s something I simply can’t forgive. On top of that, they’ve disrespected elements of the lore, like the Plagueis novel (yes, I know it’s not canon anymore, but it’s still an incredible book). Then they churn out cheap productions like Kenobi, which felt so poorly written and directed that it seemed like a junior high school project. To put it simply, the damage Disney has caused is just too great. For me to ever feel as fully invested in Star Wars as I once did, they’d need to scrap everything from the Disney era-except Rogue One, The Clone Wars, and maybe the first season (or two) of The Mandalorian. But let’s be honest: that’s never going to happen. And in the meantime, if they have great shows/movies that are not related directly to the 6 original movies (so they don't keep damaging the story), I'll probably watch them.

Andor season one was incredible, so it has that going for it already. I plan on waiting for the entire season to come out and then sub for one month to binge watch it. I will watch Skeleton Crew at that time, as it looks like a good fun show. It's not its fault that Disney poisoned the well with Ahsoka and Acolyte.

There is only: Episodes 1-6 Rogue One Andor Clone Wars Rebels --end of list-- Everything else leads to the sequel trilogy...to The Dark Times. We can't have that nonsense.

I want the Star Wars stories of the Jedi to have some Jedi that are heroes that are worthy of looking up to because they have solid, interesting back stories and journeys that make me excited and root for them or care if they succeed or fail. I miss that feeling of watching and wishing I was going on the adventure with them. I wanted to fly an X Wing, the Millennium Falcon, a land speeder, or a speeder bike. I wanted to be in the battles with them, fighting for a cause. That is what I want in my Star Wars!

Andor is fantastic, full stop. VERY confident that Gilroy will stick the landing and even exceed our expectations

Obviously, quality shows and movies will go a long way in rebuilding faith in Star Wars. But the biggest thing for me is that Disney (and Hollywood in general) stop telling me that I am bad based on the color of my skin and what may or may not be between my legs. An apology would be greatly appreciated, but that will never happen. Disney seems to have forgotten that people with "disposable income" tend to be the working class. And we got 💩 on for voicing our opinions...

When did disney or more specifically lucasfilm tell you that you are bad based on the color of your skin?

For one, last June/July they said, on camera, that if you were a white male, do not apply for management level jobs. Also, we were repeatedly told that if you didn't like one of their new shows/movies, it was because you were racist and misogynist... This is not coming from just Disney. It's everywhere. It's getting old but seems to be getting better. "The man on the news says the problem is me. I'm just a small-town boy with big American dreams."

Sorry, I don't want to type it all out again just to have YT delete it again. But, long story short, they repeatedly said that if you didn't like what was coming out, you were the problem. You were a -phob or -ist or hater. It was said many times. On camera. In tweets. The working class has "disposable income," so they insult those who actually have money to spend. Not wise...

Going to watch it but using alternative ways to do so and not planning to give my money to Disney by buying a subscription to Disney+. And I encourage everyone to do the same.

Disney Star Wars has run it's course in it's current form. They need to calm down and actually think what they are doing. Allow the franchise to take a rest and wait for all the hate for them to die down a bit. Then they can try again.

I want them to adapt Heir to the Empire. I'll be back when Thrawn gets to Thrawn. The fact that he's getting one movie instead of a trilogy is ridiculous.

One thing id like is an honest attempt to rescue Ahsoka, good ideas, great cast, poor execution towards the end. If the writers came out and admitted they rushed things a lil, it would establish good faith for Ahsoka season 2.. and hey.. Sabine is literally one of my fav characters.. i need to see more of her

It'll bring me back for more Andor. Not Star Wars. I think for me to be willing to give Star Wars a second chance, there would need to be a public acknowledgement of mistakes made and misaligned priorities, and a course correction where quality and coherent storytelling is centered over messaging. This will never happen, so it is what it is.
