@rcbmmines45793 күн бұрын
I concur with James Luceno taking a more active role. From Pre-Disney to after, he's made consistently great novels which really connected to and built on what others did before him. I'd love to see Timothy Zahn advise on an Heir to the Empire film as well. Maybe even co-write. There's a good chance George Lucas wouldn't have made the Prequels if not for the EU rejuvenating and keeping the fandom alive, and Zahn's work jumpstarted it. I'd also love to see Michael Stackpole, Matthew Stover and Haden Blackman get involved in some projects, or at least get credited while new projects get made based on their work (get that Rogue Squadron movie to happen, make an animated film based on Luke Skywalker Shadows of Mindor, continue The Force Unleashed). But right now, all of that's just a dream. Here's to hoping.
@Daniel_Huffman2 күн бұрын
@@rcbmmines4579 I gained additional respect for Lucino after finding out that he expressed concerns about the ramifications of rebooting the continuity. For similar reasons, I also consider Leeland Chee to be a worthy candidate. It was his job to ensure that continuity stayed consistent, and he was also able to reconcile seemingly contradictory stories in a way that elevated the overall narrative. Plus, I feel bad for him having to put up with Dave Filoni going out of his way to blatantly retcon the existing material during the production of _The Clone Wars,_ on one occasion abusing George Lucas' authority to get around Chee's objections.
@rcbmmines45792 күн бұрын
@ Oh man yeah I read up before on Leeland Chee doing his best to reconcile TCW with the EU's Clone Wars continuity. I grew up with TCW but I really got into the original EU Clone Wars Multimedia Project, diving deep after I was really disappointed with the ST and new canon. I got to say, in many ways I prefer the old timeline, even as I love both. Even now, new content continues to contradict canon material, books and comics. Filoni is complicit for sure but to be fair, I think he really did get that from George from the BTS of TCW and what Sam Witwer said when he brought up an inconsistency between TCW and another novel at the time.

No... a) George retired because of both his age and stress of appeasing fans b) what Lucas wants isn't what most fans want c) Lucas's stated plan outlines for his sequels even he admitted weren't very marketable So Star Wars wont be saved by giving it back to Lucas. Too many fans will still hate it. Especially since Lucas's ideas were pretty close to the Sequels, a mental beaten Luke barely having trained anyone and feeling betrayed by the Galaxy... isn't the hero fans want or the franchise needs. They want the Luke that saved Grogu. The Luke from Legends that had a family and rebuilt a new and reimagined order. What the Franchise needs is Luke being ghe hero he was in Legends. Getting the best EU authors like Timothy Zahn and James Luceno will likely give us something actually be more appealing to the broadest market. This is what Star Wars needs. Now, Don't get me wrong. Id love for Lucas to do an animated version of his Sequels... because why not let the creator in some fashion be able to tell his story. However I'd bet a weeks pay it won't be as well received as Disney hopes it would be. Lucas literally wants midi-chlorians being controled by the whills/force gods, who are the perfect beings guiding the living lesser life forms. Luke somehow(flashbacks, force ghosts, world between worlds, is confronted by Anakin and Yoda. Maybe even Ahsoka if a deep relationship between them has been established. The Disney trilogy and its consequences are laid out for Luke to see as he is scolded and becomes distraught about losing his way in the force. Snap back to the academy and Ben rolls over and Luke smiles at him and says “Let me tell you about your grandfather…”. Lucas' sequels: I think Lucas is well-aware of the need for spectacle in a Star Wars film, but that part would probably be the last thing he'd flesh out, which is why that wouldn't have been in his drafts and maybe it feels like his sequels would have been all talk about symbiotic relationships, but the prequels tell me, there would still have been plenty of action even if it wasn't in his outlines. Also, we all know how awkward Lucas' dialog can be, and I think he knew it, too, since he had Michael Arndt working on a script even before Disney brought the franchise, so I'm pretty certain an good writer like Arndt wouldn't have let the exposition regarding the Whills and the true nature of the Force take over the movie too much. Finally, having a character like Han Solo be the audience's POV, telling Luke, "Look, I might have been wrong about the Force back then, but I'm tellin' ya, there ain't no microscopic bugs in control of MY life!" probably would have helped that along, too, so we have a character acknowledging the audience's own feelings that this is all a little hard to swallow.

A very basic layout for that could be a Jedi befriends a Sith or dark Jedi and the pair going on epic quests together only for the friend to eventually die which creates doubt in the Jedi's mind who then travels the edge of the galaxy to find the answers he seeks.

Said this on the forums years ago before episode 7, i feel like the whole thing should of been about the father, the son, and the force ghost. We got something disney wanted instead, but they will fall back on georges trilogy to do 10 thru 12.

To those arrogant fans who are so hell bent on saying no because of their so called hatred of the prequels. They need to remember this. It was GL that made all of us into Star wars fans. He was the one who hired the actors and the directors of the original series.He was the one who push for better special effects in movies . He gave us a pop culture mindset of good and evil. Not everyone can create something that will capture the imagination of generations. He need to come back to finish the story.#redo the sequel trilogy with George Lucas at the helm.

Yes, but he's also the one who sold Lucasfilm to Disney. Star Wars will never be what it once was, it's time to move on.

Hey Thor, I know theres been a lot of talk about retconning the sequels, but what is the possibility of making What If movies/shows? Sort of like what Marvel did but a direct translation of Legends stories. That way if you hate the sequels you have an Elseworlds timeline you can be invested in, while sequel fans have the main canon they can enjoy. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

First get rid of Kennedy, then make George an offer he can't refuse. He may not be the only one who could save Star Wars, but he is the best option available.

A single use World between Worlds would need a really, *really* good explanation, otherwise it produces the same problem as the Holdo Maneuver: Other people (in Universe) will do their research and try to reproduce it, which will spell Doom for the canon.
@sterling73 күн бұрын
Even if Lucas was willing to come back, at this point, I think it's not unlike the Marvel casting of RDJ as Dr. Doom: it buys you one movie/property audience, largely out of curiosity, with little to no real guarantee of said audience holding fast unless it absolutely sticks the landing. It's a big galaxy out there. I think if "The Mandalorian" proved one thing, it's that there should be plenty of adventures to have in this universe without having to slavishly stick to the most identifiable characters and icons. You just need good writers, actors, and directors, without excessive interference, who are able to make them come to life.

I personally think it's too late. No John Williams music. No legacy actors since they either, are no longer with us, are done with this franchise or have become unbearable people nobody likes. The only way to move forward is to never reference the sequels, recast legacy characters and use the 30 years prior to the sequels. But even then, people are done. I'll just stick to the things I liked so far and not worry about showing up on time for the new thing. The rush is gone. The interest has decreased. George coming back is a noveltt Not a solution. Stopping starwars altogether and just releasing merch wss a good solution maybe back when mandalorian was good. The movie and andor might be their last hurrah. They will never get to have a second chance at this. Not without the legacy cast and John Williams' score. They wasted it and now they'll face the consequences of it and the best part is none of us have to do anything. The only real solution is to just stop altogether. Even a reboot would be horrible. Lightning in a bottle kind of deal. They'll never remove this failure and people will just move on and forget. Forget to the point where interest is not renewed.

I think it's been said over and over, but I really think this will go down as the most catastrophic collapse of a franchise in pop culture. The power SW had, and I hate them, but even during the prequels, was so strong.

I think that Disney is willing to do such a thing, but I'm worried that's gonna open the gates to Retcon more stuff. What if Disney will decide they want Maul in the sequels? Boom, Rebels, not canon.

If we had gotten Colin Trevorrow Ep. 9, I think people would feel way better about the sequels. Maybe they should just retcon that one movie. Then also do a thrawn trilogy just as a “legends” trilogy.
@marsy24-o6b2 күн бұрын
Hey Thor, I think retconning the sequels is a bad idea not because they're good, but because to the general public, it convolutes and confuses what's real and what's not and turns star wars into "homework" and generally makes it feel less organized and legitimate. While hardcore fans and the younger generations understand reboots and different universes, I had hard time explaining where the mandalorian fit in to my Dad, the definition of a casual viewer. I just think it would be a really bad look to everyone but the main star wars community. I really think the best idea is to just ditch the skywalkers as a whole and build up essentially from the ground up and rely on goodwill and word of mouth from really good movies to rebuild. Plus, if it's disconnected from the general skywalker era, newcomers won't necessarily be bogged down with "catching up" on things. I dunno, as much as I'd love to see Lucas's vision, I just don't think it would be successful.

Agreed with all of that. Except, Lucas isn’t coming back. The man is 80 and wants to spend the time he has left with family. Filoni should bring Zahn into the writer’s room for his Mando-verse. And just use the World between Worlds to split the EU timeline from the Sequel timeline, via butterfly effect. But, leave it a little ambiguous as to which timeline Ahsoka take place. The people who like the Disney era are happy. The people that like the old EU are happy. There would be an established lore. While giving the Mando-verse (and their writers for other projects some room for their own thing.

Use the story George wrote, have Spielberg or someone come in to direct and punch up the dialogue. Peter Jackson? Del Toro? Someone of that caliber. Let George be executive producer and writer. Use the world between worlds to reset the timeline. Bring in mark Hamill’s ghost on the other side to prevent Palpatine’s plan, reset the timeline to just before Palpatine avoids death. The sequels never happen. Rey and even Kylo grow up to be different people. Recast the original characters and set it 10 years after ROTJ. Ewan and Hayden return as force ghosts, old Mark Hamill Luke fades out, a new Luke played by Sebastian Stan wakes up from his meditation having saved the Galaxy from the dreaded sequel trilogy.

It's funny because to me disney's 3 movies they dubbed the finale of the Skywalker saga are one long holiday special. It's there but nothing is really being done with it because it doesn't make money, forget liking em those people who do tho don't spend enough disney's accountants/investors don't care if people "like" something loudly if the money doesn't support it.

It’s honestly not really an ultimatum if they want fans to be excited about new content going forward they have to acknowledge that they mishandled the story until then they will keep tripping on the same mistakes that got them here in the first place. It would be great if Lucas got one more crack at star wars even if it was an animated version of his sequel ideas. I just think at this point it seems like Disney has done as much as possible to try to separate themselves from what George created and the parts of the EU fans loved. I believe that disney doesn’t even care if an idea is good just that it makes money so its hard for true creativity to shine when all they care about is $.

Other than marketing value, bringing back Lucas would bring nothing to the table in terms of quality. He made one good film and got a lot of help turning it into a good trilogy. When left unchecked the results were not great. His initial treatment of the sequel trilogy was about mitichlorians and hermit Luke. Lucas touching the canon again and especially any kind of sweeping retcon would just fracture the franchise even more. The only options they really have is either a long pause or a fresh start anywhere far far away from the current timeline.

Hey Thor, with all the talk of retcons, recasting, and redo-ing films. The issue with all those solutions would be dealing with the exact same time period we've been stuck in for almost half a century. Why can't the franchise and the fandom just try moving on now that the well's run dry? The current stink will just get on anything they try to connect directly. The sequels tried to build up a new cast but the crutch of legacy ended up overshadowing everything. The history of SW is eons long and a galaxy wide. I like Rey but couldn't care less about her new film, however I could still get hyped for something like an Old Republic movie.

Look I know we would all love for George to return, but consider this. What would he actually do? Like one of his original plans for a sequel trilogy would be to bring back Darth maul, and while yes Darth maul is cool I just couldn’t see that working. Frankly and this is just my opinion against the will and choices of the creator so it doesn’t matter much but I feel that for StarWars to continue the timeline after return of the Jedi and the fall of the emperor the Sith should have been gone, yes the dark side should remain and always exist but I feel that StarWars shouldn’t fall into the same trap it’s been since almost the end of the original trilogy where it’s basically just been Jedi vs Sith but different era. And another thing, does George even want to continue StarWars? Like wasn’t the point of him selling it so that hey could work in his own personal projects, like I’m sure he still loves StarWars, it’s his baby after all but I’m not sure he even cares to really touch it anymore.

"Is George Lucas the key to saving Star Wars? Should Disney go to him before it's too late?" Define "too late." Are you asking is it "too late" to save Star Wars? Are you asking if it's "too late" to go to George since Disney already rejected his ideas? Or are you saying that Disney needs to give him a chance to do something with the franchise before he's simply not able to? George is responsible for this whole thing after all. I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in Disney being good stewards of this franchise.
