First of all, take care of yourself and keep hope. Now as for the first battery pack, there are a few suggestions. Always read (measure voltages) of each of the batterie cells, especially when you had the control board removed. That way any suspect cell can be identified before sealing it back up. Secondly, when spot welding tabs, you can always put one lead on the tab to be welded and the other on the battery plate, That will work very well and you can Do that multiple times for more contact area. AND you can also use some activated flux and sold those tabs as well. Usually scrape the tabs, apply the paste flux and solder away... Just some helpful ideas. As for the battery ot charging. They have to be pretty close to the higher voltage level before they will charge. Use a good battery and jump to the discharged battery to get the voltage up and than try charging. Have to trick the chargers sometimes. Thumbs Up and take care of yourself first and foremost!

Lithium batteries charge almost exactly the same as lead acid, a constant current constant voltage source is all you need. Set the voltage to be the maximum (often 4.2V/cell) and the current to be 1/2C (2 hour charge rate). For batteries like this you can probably do a 3C rate or 20 min charge rate. If you want to, you can even use the temperature probe wire(s) on the pack to make sure it’s within temperature or use your own thermometer. It’s also a good idea to rebalance these cells, either with a balancer or by slow charging each cell individually.
@emmettturner94522 ай бұрын
The DeWALT charger is saying “charged” because one bank of cells is full at 4.2v and it refuses to overcharge those just to bring the rest of the pack voltage up. The reasons the pack is at 14.7v instead of ~21v is because… 1) a bank of cells has internally shorted (0v) and… 2) the rest are slightly out of balance. 15v is where the last capacity LED cuts off. The fix is to replace the two bad cells and bring each bank of cells up to 4.1x volts with a generic smart charger. I use alligator clips and a BT-C3400 but I also found a Nitecore New i4 at a thrift store.

Seeing videos like this warms my heart as you are making a valiant attempt at keeping these things from going to the landfill. And they're expensive!! Who wants to throw away a $40-80 battery if there is a chance it could be fixed? Not me! Keep it up, and praying for you as always!

One tip on Milwaukee batteries is they do have a low voltage safety that prevents the charger from trying to charge the battery if the voltage is too low and it will also show the red green flash. I have found if I hook it up to a power supply at 18v at around be 100-500mA, usually start with low amps and raise it a little as the voltage climbs. But once it gets to around 15v the charger will recognize the battery and charge it. Gotten dozens of free “dead” batteries that have work for years now.

I've rebuilt 100's of power tool packs. One welding tip I'll mention, is that to get more weld penetration put one probe on one tab and one on the other, this forces much stronger welds that are not possible with both probes on the same tab. The liquid damage ones are tough especially if its a full featured BMS board. I usually don't touch them if I see corrosion on a BMS board. But I've removed and successfully rebuilt a lot of packs with cells that were a bit rusted. I carefully drill out the spot welds on thicker tabs. You have to be extremely careful because you obviously don't want to drill into the steel cell can itself. But I've drilled out 10's of thousands of spot welds without an issue, just have to be careful and use good sharp 1/8" bits.

Measure across the cells, not just the battery pack. You can easily identify a bad cell or a charge balance issue this way. You can then clip a generic cell charger to a cell or bank of parallel cells to charge them when the pack charger doesn’t work. Often, bringing each individual cell/bank back over 3v will get the original charger to take over. If that doesn’t get them all to 4v (full), use the generic charger to top off any cells/banks that are too low.

I found battery pack that I couldn't repair. The Dison 5S1P batteries can't be repaired once they start blinking red. I had one with aging cells and when I took it apart and replaced the cells, I made the mistake of not connecting one of the middle voltage leads. This caused a blinking red light. After repairing the issue, I found out that once the BMS blinks red, there is nothing that you can do with normally available tools to reset the BMS. I'm sure that they have a way of resetting their BMS but I can't. I ended up using the batteries with a Amazon failed pack with fake ratings (literally 100% of Amazon packs) and swap out their crap cells for the ones I was to use in the OG Dison pack. Vacuum still working a few years later.
