In this video I'm working on fixing something I haven't fixed before - 2 broken power tool battery packs. Since sometimes the battery is the post expensive part of a power tool it would be great if they were fixable. One is a DeWALT 20V Max Lithium Ion 5 AH battery and the other is Milwaukie 18V 2AH battery pack.

I know a lot has already been said at this point so I'd like to simply say thank you. I look forward to you and your teams videos and am excited to see new content. I'm getting older and there aren't a lot of channels out there anymore I look forward to seeing new uploads. You've scratched that niche interest for me and kept me entertained for years. Hearing you talk about what you're going through in the same casual tone as all your other videos broke my heart a little. I also recognize that you're processing this in the best way for you, while trying to keep your community informed and entertained. I respect that a lot. Again, thank you.

My sister battled breast cancer years ago, and one useful comfort tip I can offer: once you do lose your hair, be mindful of the direction you scrub in when you wash your scalp. Be sure to scrub in the direction the follicles naturally grow in. It doesn't sound like it would matter that much, but "going against the grain" like that can actually make your scalp really tender! You'll be going through enough discomfort with the chemo without having something like that added into the mix. All the positive energy in the world to you in the coming months, man. You can do this.

Hi Steve, I work at Batteries Plus. I've done a lot of repairs on drill batteries and rebuilt them as well. For your DeWalt battery, the minimum voltage for the charger to recognize it needs to be charged would be 16 volts to about 15.5. This is because it has multiple different batteries in it and those batteries are 18650s. Each one of those batteries have a 3.7 volt charge. 18650s minimum voltage required to charge would be around 2.5 volts. Multiplying that by how many batteries it has gives you the minimum requirement for the charger to recognize it needs to be charged

Do you guys repair Packs with 18650's or larger lithium cells at your batteries plus? Cuz all we used to do at the one I worked at were the Ni-CD and Ni-MH ones.
@jessebarnhill3883

@@UpintheAir1395 Hey man! My store doesn't work on the lithium packs due to the possibility of there being damaged lithium and shorting out the electronic causing the batteries to overload. I am just familiar with the packs because I use 18650s for other purposes.

I'm shocked that an electronics guy gave up on fixing a battery, or heck, even put it back on the charger, without checking the voltages of the individual cells. Milwaukee in particular might just flip a switch in software and say "never try to charge this again" after a couple failures. 14.5V means nothing if that's 3.6v per cells on 4 cells, and one cell at zero. Or... just try to charge up the weak cells manually and see if they take some energy. It's so simple and he didn't even check!
@MrN8007
@MrN8007 10 ай бұрын
I have fixed over a dozen old batteries some with water damage etc. only see one bad board surprisingly. Red green one was definitely like Jesse said low voltage. I usually balance charge the cells first to at least 3.5 volts so they all match. If one cell is very weak I usually replace it which is a pain. That spot welder you have doesn’t seem very strong. Mine was cheap under $40 and will melt those nickel strips like butter if I don’t watch the level. I usually test before use so I don’t melt something I need lol.

VERY instructional video! I work in construction and face this problem all the time. Dead batteries! Although the newer batteries for most tools are much better and way more durable then the old Ni-Cad stuff it's still a pain paying north of $500 for a tool set with two batteries that crap out in less than a year and, as you stated, replacements are just stupid expensive. I know gaming systems and consoles are your thing but this is the kind of instructional videos that could help thousands of people like me save money! Thanks for what you do! Enjoy your content and have learned a lot. You have my prayers for what you are going through and it sounds like you are dealing with it like a trouper! I don't have cancer but I am in heart failure which coupled with spinal injuries that have resulted in extremely painful peripheral neuropathy in my feet means I take every day as it comes. Some days are better than others but I am also aware there is ALWAYS someone worse off than myself. What bothers me more than the pain is to see the concern on the faces of my children and grandchildren so you put a brave face on it and take the good days to make memories. Best wishes Steve.

My mother is currently battling a brutal fight with stage 3 ovarian cancer, your news hit a little close to home. Sending positive energies your way steve. Tell the drs not to forget the perfect amount of thermal paste. ❤

Get well soon Steve! I've been a sub for quite some time, and I will keep checking in on your channel even if the stupid algorithm send your videos to the back due to you not being able to keep up with the content production. My mother in law have just recently gone through breast cancer treatment and had to do an intestine surgery at the same time. She sailed through that with ease...at 83 years old! It's amazing how far medical treatment has come. You got this too Steve! Get well wishes from Sweden

Steve, utmost respect and admiration for your openness and your commitment to continue with your work and entertainment for everyone. 'Hey, just so you know I'm actually quite poorly at the moment, but it's ok I'll deal with it. Anyway, let's get back to work'.... Just know that you don't have to do this for us. Your physical and mental health is far more important. I wish you all the best and a happy healthy future.

I’m a huge fan of the channel. I am making this comment as I watch so I’m not sure if you’ll figure this out this video. The cells should each be about 3-3.9 volts. Typically if a cell goes bad the battery won’t charge anymore. The individual cell can be replaced but they usually need to be balanced with each cell as close to the same voltage as possible. That circuit board has a battery management system (BMS) that balances each cell during charging. So if a cell is bad (low voltage) the charger will not charge it and they usually recommend taking it somewhere to be recycled.
