Not really, Microsoft always has been like this, Satya didn't change that much, the thing he did is just to keep the company the way as it was but same is not true with Google CEO, Sundar Pichaim, he is taking Google down, there were many failed projects at Google, after spending billions, Stadia is dead, Waymo is not close to become profitable anytime soon and has lost it's capital value significantly, they are behind OpenAI/Microsoft achivements..... it strange that the board at alphabet has not fired him yet.

This is so much bigger than just competition for search. Search engine with ChatGPT integrated will dramatically reduce traffic to many sites; theres no need to go to the source if AI will compose a perfect summary, answer whatever of what you're looking for. Majority of info site use google adsense as their revenue source. So the amount of people and companies that can potentially get royally screwed here is massive. I mean Google loosing a lot of ad revenue, infor sites loosing their revenue from ads, eventually hosting sites loosing clients who can't afford to host sites or simply don't see a point of running them anymore...I honestly don't know how this will shake the internet as we know it but it sure looks like a potential fkin earthquake.

Seeing a human answer questions about what his company is doing with this new technology makes me feel better than any of the other announcements and updates we've seen from other companies that come across as soulless, non-human updates about as AI sounding as the technology they're bragging about. Having someone speak to the concerns we have and why we need to have safety in this new technology and how it can help us when used properly makes it feel like this is still being overseen by someone who is concerned with how the technology can be used as well. Google absolutely has the capability to steamroll Microsoft here, internally they're way ahead of any other country on Earth in terms of LLM technology (Most people seem to forget they invented transformers, already have multimodal models of greater size and performance across all metrics than ChatGPT, etc.). That being said, Google has a special ability to royally screw up capitalizing on technologies they create. Like, for instance, google basically pioneered modern standalone vr and the associated software and yet nowadays the company is hardly involved in that space at all. It was essentially charity work because they're so bad at introducing and sticking with new products. and that is not to mention the many, many failed Android messenger attempts over the years, Stadia, and so many others software ideas they floundered on due to moving so agonizingly slowly. The race for Ai is on
@JensGraikowski

The act of confronting large companies that have a near-monopolistic control over the market is always commendable. Although, it is highly unlikely that such a behemoth as Google would be intimidated by this action. The company has already developed its own AI-powered chatbot, named "bard", which is currently in the pipeline for implementation. When combined with the vast array of resources at Google's disposal, including their flagship search engine and interconnected ecosystem, it is more than likely that the company will be well-equipped to maintain its competitiveness in the market. 🤷🏽‍♂️

They called a "red alert" the other day based on this, so yeah i think they're paying attention... if you think a large firm isn't concerned with protecting its market share from disruptive technologies then you don't understand the first thing about how this space works.

Exactly. Google has the brightest minds in the industry on AI. The foundational tech ChatGPT is based on was developed 5+ years ago by Google’s Deep Mind and UofToronto. The competitive advantage here is all about data, and nobody comes even close to the amount of data Google has. Just think of KZbin and Gmail alone. It’s not about the Search engine market share. It’s about who can develop the next generation AI and monetize on it. It can only be Google or the Chinese govt. it’s all about the data.
@JensGraikowski
@JensGraikowski Жыл бұрын
I concur with your assessment, @@justshad937. Nevertheless, I must confess I'm disappointed with the presentation that Google staged in Paris yesterday. It appeared to consist primarily of self-congratulation and a cataloguing of their implementation of AI into existing offerings, as well as the unveiling of products that have already been introduced by competitors, in some cases with superior features. The dearth of information regarding Bard was rather unsatisfactory, but it is not uncommon for Google to play their cards close to the chest. However, as you astutely pointed out, the true significance lies in the data and the means to extract financial value from it.

The only question I am pondering is what are the chances that the $10B MSFT plowed into ChatGPT will prove a dud as the OpenAI is available to whoever wants to use it in their products, and as Google is preparing another knockout punch.

Full access to next generation GPT (likely GPT-4) before anyone has even heard about it with all the native infrastructure it runs on (Azure). That in itself gives a good headstart to Bing, and that's not counting all the realtime patches and optimization that the search AI will get directly from the OpenAI team. Just my assumption though.

I don't think so. I mean, they will gain more market share for sure, but not enough to dethrone Google. We have to understand that Google was the precursor to the tech chatGPT is using. Now, the main issue here is that from now on, AI advancement will take a massive hit in terms of openness and research.

Chat GPT is built on the Neural Network technology that Google made public. But they can't take it back, however they can withhold groundbreaking advances in learning algorythms which might give them the edge. DeepMind is part of Google, and they get commissioned a lot for features at Google.

As a Google Chrome user , i always liked the Bing UI and everything, but my main issue with Bing is that its slightly slower and sometimes laggy compared to Google Chrome. Sure, Bing is way more customizable, and i very much like that, but i just prefer Google Chrome just because its slightly faster and the user feeling is superior. Bing should work more on optimalization.

Do you mean Edge? I don't think you have used Edge in years. I was a Google Chrome guy for most of my life until around 2021Feb when I started using Edge on my new computer because I was a tad lazy to download Chrome. I never looked back and I don't Chrome one bit. New Edge is better than Chrome imho. So many useful features as well and efficient with memory. I need to clarify that I have not used the AI Edge. But if it's slow it makes sense since AI doesn't respond quickly anyways.
