I'm not sure what alternative they left themselves though, other than no more Captain America. It couldn't ever be Bucky in the MCU after the years of him being a Hydra assassin/terrorist, brainwashed or not. Best friend or otherwise, it would have been antithetical of Steve Roger's values to ask Bucky to be the new Captain America after that. It would've felt even weirder to have had Bucky agree, he knew what he'd done during those years. Story-wise, I can't fault the narrative logic of Cap giving the shield/mantle to Sam Wilson. Even if it doesn't really 'work' because he's not a super soldier. Feels like they stuck themselves in a corner.

To the "sudden wiki experts" here, commenting that Sam became Cap in the comics; You oust yourselves as tourists. The proper order of mantle passing was that it's supposed to be Bucky first (which people actually did like). It's even foreshadowed in early MCU films before it became the M-She-U (one of the many examples is in Winter Soldier where Bucky can hold the shield just like Cap did). Also narratively this would make better sense as it allows Bucky to actually redeem himself under a spotlight, judged by everyone at all times, after all the bad things he did as Winter Soldier. Instead of being relegated to a Z-list team with forgotten side characters

The problem with it comes from multiple fronts. The DEI movement is based on the idea that anything straight, white and male isn't "diverse" and needs to be changed/replaced. So using that as your filter to make decisions, great literary works are ignored because the author wasn't "diverse", good competent people are not hired because they are not "diverse" enough, movie scripts, comics, game direction are changed not because it's a good idea to make a product that will sell, but because the DEI ideology says so; and as communism has showed through out history, having your production of goods be determined by ideology does not bring good results. Then comes Marvel's share of blame, since they have fallen into the DEI trap, they decided to sell the idea that characters don't matter, only their costumes. So Peter Parker doesn't matter he can be replaced by Mire Moralis, Logan doesn't matter he can be replaced by a female character that wears his uniform and also calls herself the Wolverine, Steve Rogers doesn't matter Falcon can take his hand me down clothes and shield and be the new Captain America. All that is a completely asenine way of writing stories, because super heroes aren't costumes, they are the characters under the mask and their stories cannot be transfered to a newer character Marvel suddenly decided they must be popular. As I like to say, "modern politics is the death of fantasy", and DEI is nothing but modern politics. Racist modern politics.

In my case the main problem is that he is replaced by someone who does not have the serum that made Captain America, by an ordinary soldier regardless of the color of his skin, they would have simply pulled a serum out of their sleeve like everything they have done recently and it would be moderately credible to see Anthony Mackie continue with the character, without the serum it is ridiculous.

@JaimieSch9 күн бұрын
You've definitely hit the nail on the head with this being the main problem. The Falcon was always a cool character on his own, and forcing him to be a replacement for a popular character, like Captain America, was obviously a mistake, done by people who cared more about virtue signaling then what makes sense for the story. His new costume is also extremely goofy, but that's a secondary issue stemming from shoehorning him into Cap's role. I personally have a number of other issues with this film and the way that Falcon is being used, that cause me to not have high hopes for this film, even ignoring the fact that Marvel haven't put out anything great, outside of Spiderman films, in years. Even if we ignore the culture war stuff around replacing Cap with Sam, it's still a completely illogical choice for the story. For starters, Sam doesn't have any superpowers. He doesn't possess any super serum enhancements that enabled Cap to operate in the way that he did. For example, Cap's enhanced reflexes are what enable him to accurately throw and bounce his shield, and catch it again with ease. Cap's super strength is what enables him to throw the shield with sufficient force to do the needed damage to stronger opponents. Falcon should not be able to do either of these things, yet he is using the shield in the same way as Cap did in the trailers, despite that being completely unrealistic and inconsistent with the established worldbuilding of the MCU. Furthermore, the main villain of this film appears to be the Red Hulk. Without super soldier enhancements, Sam stands absolutely zero chance of defeating such a powerful character in a fight. Frankley, even if he did have super strength, I'd still be skeptical of his ability to defeat Red Hulk in a 1v1. Falcon's main weapons are useless against Red Hulk's enhanced durability, and Cap's shield isn't going to do a thing, without the force of super strength behind a throw. Without super powers, Sam should be turned into red mist after about 2 seconds of fighting a Hulk villain. His shield may be indestructible, but the force of Red Hulk's punches would still turn Sam to jelly in one hit. This completely destroys my ability to get invested in the fight scenes, because there's no way Sam should be winning this fight. Given this issue, if they needed to replace Steve as Captain America, the logical choice would have been Bucky Barnes, as he does posses the necessary enhancements to properly fill Cap's role, and it would be a great way for him to complete his redemption arc, by becoming a symbol of good. Steve also knew Bucky far longer than Sam, so it would be more believable that he would want Bucky to pick up the mantle. Given that this is the obvious way to go, the fact that they choose Sam instead, comes across as a politically motivated decision, related to the actors' skin colours, rather than what makes sense for the story. Obviously, I'd like this film to be good, but given how much damage has been done to the worldbuilding and characters in the MCU at this point, I just can't bring myself to get invested anymore. I lost all interest after Loki Season 1 retroactively reconned free will out of all prior MCU stories, by having the TVA destroy anybody who ever made any decision that wasn't the one they were "supposed" to make. That devalues all previously meaningful character choices, because they literally couldn't have chosen to anything else, without being deleted from existence. Also, no, Kang being killed doesn't fix that, because that problems still applies to everything pre-Loki Season 1 (aka all the actually good stuff). That's foundational worldbuilding destruction, and I don't see how they could recover from that at this point. All the multiverse stuff has just made that problem even worse.

Let's say that Falcon wasn't even played by Anthony Mackie, that he wasn't black. No one had any sort of attachment to the character where as Steve had an entire origin movie and a the whole of the Infinity Stone saga. The Falcon needs to be able to stand on his own two feet as a character... But he was never built up to do so before having the Captain America mantle thrust upon him. While sam does become captain american in the comics hes the third in the line of men who do so. Whats next he gets an ironman suit and thors hammer?

The last MCU film i saw was Guardians 3 and it's probably the only good one in years made by people who truly understood and respected characters and storytelling. The rest either disrespect the previous characters (vandalising and dr strange 2), make nonsensical worldbuilding choices (eternals and black widow) or try and introduce characters that nobody likes (she hulk and captain marvel). Also great edit job there. What software was that you used?

I've always thought Falcon was lame and saw this coming from a mile away. Nothing to do with the actor. Falcon is just a discount discount DISCOUNT Ironman. Even throwaway Xmen have more value, like that poor jelly kid with the transparent skin. This is like giving that slime kid a whole movie where he's the new Wolverine. A bad idea.

@sungrandstudios I honestly didn't watch it as I have stopped watching DEIsney unless I hear that the content is actually good, (I hope that the new Daredevil is). But I do watch reviews on them from trusted sources.

@@sungrandstudiosIt was bad, yea😂. There were some decent moments and it set up some GREAT characters (Isaiah Bradley and US Agent) but it descended into a champagne socialist fever dream at the end. It could really have done without the bank loan subplot, as well. Really crowbarred that in there😂

Falcon was a fine character that the exects at Marvel Pictures did wrong. A straight forward espionage thriller with an ensemble cast and a smaller budget would have done better. Even though "Falcon and the Winter Soldier" had some woke elements to it, Falcon and the Winter Soldier had some good chemistry. Some will say, "bUT hE wAS cAPtaIN AMerICa in the comics!" Yeah. And he wasn't a popular character in the comics either. A spy thrill with Falcon and Winter Solider was the obvious path. But no. They had to race swap and give sloppy seconds and completely ignore the Falcon character with his own WELL-establish lore and backstory. Instead, we get Captain African-American Man. They did Falcon wrong.

The actor doesn't want great values to be associated with America, so he can enjoy his anti-American box office results without me, a Canadian that greatly appreciates the American constitution and its Western values.

Rejection and replacing of source material is messed up. They won't make a white black panther movie will they? A chinese black panther?

I love everything marvel and DC and Star Wars so I’m definitely going to watch it. But my issue with this movie goes back to endgame when Steve gave Sam the shield instead of Bucky, to me that was a mistake. Bucky and him had been through more together. It made more thematic sense with Bucky looking to redeem himself and what better way than to become Cap himself. And Honestly, Anthony Mackie hasn’t been as in the cap role as he was as falcon. I think his performances were better, his suits were better, and his character was more interesting as falcon. I liked him as falcon. But as cap he’s always stoic, not funny, not interesting and his suits look lame. Also, I still just think Bucky should be cap. At least in the MCU version that they have established.
@sungrandstudios10 күн бұрын
I would preferred Bucky take on the shield and Falcon stay the Falcon.
@jaxsonburch-eo1vz10 күн бұрын
@ yeah because it also just feels like Bucky as a character has stagnated since then. I think most people would have liked that. He was the best part of winter soldier

It's sad that this is the only problem people really have. And i'm not saying you're delusional, but this is a lot about race.And not from disney side but from people. Also, if this didn't happen in the source material that they're basing it off of then, yes, I would think it was dei, but it's literally in the comic books. Anyway im going to hopefully enjoy the new captain america.i hope for those who guve it a chance they do to

Rick Remender started Sam as this version of Captain America but out of spite Marvel replaced the author with Al Ewing who turned Sam evil then that didn't last long because Sam was then inserted into a crossover team up before Nick Spencer character assassinated him. Steve came back in no time anyway. Time skip to now Marvel has a Sam Captain American mini one shot out now because of the movie. Falcon Winter soldier content was canceled. Sam during his own show was as interesting as a loaf of bread. The fights were boring. So tell me does a full move make sense? Sam as Cap failed in the comics. Sam as Cap was pointless in his own title show. ?????????

Im kinda interested in seeing villain Harrison Ford. Thats not his usual style of role. Also its kinda dumb that people are huffing about the black cap. Black cap is literally part of the comics, and he did become a bit of a liked character.

I really like Falcon in MCU and Anthony Mackie's grounded and charismatic performances. I hope the movie is enjoyable and fun.

@@sungrandstudios I agree. It actually looked like it might be interesting. I remember i was kinda iffy with Spiderverse when that dropped, but as long as they play pretty close to sauce, i cant see them failing.
