Kefir, L glutamine and Gelatin and meat stock made from bones, joints and connective tissues, worked to heal my gut, I only used carnivore as an elimination. then brought back in other things, most veg i eat fermented, still wont eat dark green leafys though as they make me bloat and cause pain. Healed is when your gut is able to tolerate things it couldnt, staying on carnivore full time is not healed its avoidance. amongst other things I can now eat cooked garlic and Onions which i couldnt before,

I’m going to question this idea that is prevalent out there, in alternative/functional medicine especially, that lots of foods added increases diversity. I used to read a blog by a guy named Art Ayers. I think that was his fist name I know it was his last name. He was a scientist. I read a post by him referencing studies I think that showed that the more different foods added to a diet the less the microbial diversity. Later I tried to go back and find the post but I couldn’t. His blog was called cooling inflammation. Then fast forward to the last year or so and I have heard reports of people like Ken Berry and carnivore yogi doing stool testing and their clients/patients doing stool testing and seeing microbiome diversity increase on a strictly carnivore diet. I’m really skeptical now of that often repeated info or dogma that the more foods one eats the greater the microbial diversity and the better. Most animals in the wild don’t have extremely diverse diets either. At least many don’t. And in the cases that they do the argument could be made that it’s out of necessity in times of scarcity. Imagine telling a gorilla that there’s not enough diversity in their diet because they only eat leaves and whatever bugs they get accidentally on those leaves. Or pandas. Or any number of other animals. I think it’s important to remember that doctors and other practitioners may want to help people but they also want to make money. Telling people who are addicted to food and use it for comfort and pleasure and who live to eat rather than eating to live that if they want to recover their health and keep it they need to forsake all that and limit their intake to mostly meat and maybe a few safer plants is not a popular message with the majority. That’s why you see all the keto treats everywhere. It’s kind of like religion. No body wants to tell people if you don’t stop being a selfish, unkind malevolent exploiter of others and love people sacrificially even if they don’t appreciate you and kill you you’re not going to survive Gods judgement. They want to make it a happier more appealing message to attract members and cash flow. I’m not saying every practitioner does this but even if they aren’t they’re being trained and influenced by systems that are as much or more about maximizing profits.

I like to heal mine. But he didn't say how much or how often. Not only that, in addition to a carnivore diet, add in raw meat. Yay..sushi. In the end, we are missing the microbiotes in our environment and just adding those, and nothing else, improve the gut of individuals. Very complicated.

I drink green tea for the polyphenols and am taking liposomal Vitamin C , butyrate, 4 poached eggs in the AM and alternate with raw eggs in a smoothie. Smoothie ingredients are grass fed beef collagen, almond milk, liquid vitamins and minerals, one with silica, and ice. I eat high quality (organic grass fed) meats and organ meats. I eat my steak cooked rare. The high end probiotics I take have only 14 strains - the one I really want has 34 strains. However the price is daunting. Most of us don’t know what to do with the science you offer up but I like the explanations even though it’s largely nonsensical to a lay person sadly… I think what a lot of people on the carnivore diet deal with is knowing how to proceed in a healthful manner and get frustrated with the limitations of the diet. Is there anything you would add to my routine? Thanks so much!!

I wonder if Dr William Davis’ yogurt recipe for cultivating and multiplying ‘L-reuteri ‘could also be applied to other probiotic strains? That would give you more bang for your buck.

There may be several causes of leaky gut. E.g high cortisol maybe one of them. If your cortisol metabolism is already compromised and you go on keto/carnivore, you may end up with severe hypercortisolineamia (my guess is that this may be connected to the increase in circulation cholesterol as cholesterol is the substrate for the synthesis of cortisol). Cortisol is known to disrupt the gut's health...

Good stuff, thanks. I'm a little confused though, on why flavenoids would be helpful. How did we evolve to need them? Or is this a special situation in the context of repairing gut damage that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Please not that all this research is NOT based on people eating the carnivore diet. What this researcher says are mostly extrapolation from animal studies. So WE DON'T KNOW whether he is right or not. We have to wait until studies in humans are done which include people eating the carnivore diet to tell whether we really need those compounds or not...

Hi Judy, so sorry to keep bothering you but could you read my post I wrote later in the evening on 11/14. I’m the one who wrote about my recent diagnosis of macular degeneration at 53(such a young age to be getting it). I’m feeling overwhelmed and just want to know where to begin. I’m wondering if I should re test for SIBO since I was diagnosed with it 4ish yrs ago. I’ve heard a lot of talk about leaky gut and wondering if I possibly have that? Is there a test you can take to know? I’ve heard of a gut zoomer test to see where your gut biome is from Dr Mindy on utube. I just can’t help but think I need some additional help to heal my gut before deciding if keto or carnivore or perhaps ketovore(somewhere in between is best for me). Thank you for all you do!
