for semi-openess white pawn's existence could subtract 0.1 and black pawn's existence could subtract 0.1 starting from 0.7 instead of 0.5 You'd check once for each and effectively get 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 for closed, semi-open and open file respectively That said I like the way it's implemented on stream because it translates the wording of the original written by chat more literally in-code I hope to catch your stream sometime soon cause I love your content

Yeah my coding strategy for these is always "least mental effort" 🙃 That way I don't have to worry as much about bugs (also performance isn't very important)

I'd still like to see this done with youtube suggestions. Maybe something like announcing a build based on youtube suggestions, have people comment theirs, and go through with your chat to vote on them?

maybe a good/interesting rule would be: -1 for each pawn but +0.1 for each square it moves up and for the last one (promoting +0.5) that should result in no more negative from the starting -1 and it might improve the promoting issue.

it was coded in C#, so you can look if you find a chess library for C#. i worked with one in Python, and write something in Python.

Each opening was its own separate 2-game match. The points on the scoreboard were match wins, not game wins
