There is a chance for the king to be saved.. and that is where sentiency comes into play, by switching the rook with the king, it will get you out of CHECK. So it's not checkmate.

my opponent fell for this trick, when he checkmated me i asked for water that had traces of bishop fluid. i turned into a bishop and took my opponent’s king.

First idea i got even before i saw the other ideas in the video was: Allow 1 or 2 queen promotions. So only 1 or 2 pawns could become queens during the entire game. That would not delete queen promotion completly, but would limit the number of possible queens. Because sometimes queen is just the thing you need for a checkmate, but not having a queen at all once you loose it feels weird, since every other piece is renewable. (I am suprised no one else suggested this)
