@@skizmo1905 nope, this is a party prestige project, running away with any significant amount of funds gets you executed. Plus they've already planted significant amounts of trees, its been ongoing for several years now. Just thought it would be a fun thing to share, when i was in primary school in China on national tree planting day the whole school would go out to places across the city to plant saplings. We would go out collectively in classes and be divided into small groups, all the parents are present too to teach all the kids how to plant saplings and help them in the process. After planting you can decide to leave a little name tag next to the tree telling you the person that planted it and the date planted, this way in the future you can find the tree that you had planted. We would often go back in groups out of our own interest to find the trees we planted and see how much it has grown! It is a significant part of my childhood and i hope more schools around the world can have this wonderful opportunity open to their young ones!😊

Great work, I am impressed by China their work on this front. Andrew Millison has made a great series on KZbin on India's Water Revolution where India has been solving the water problems of over a 1000 villages by restoring ecosystem functions through top-down watershed management. I have been to China a couple of times though only for short visits, but being there I could sense that Chinese people are very serious about their country. The development that I saw on the ground was just remarkable. Just to give an example, we were traveling through a highway-like road and the hundreds of trees all around that road were dead straight and of the same size. I attended the CANTON FAIR there, the place was gigantic, and on that day the fair's attendance was over 700,000 people from all around the world. China has grown from strength to strength over the past few decades and is the only country on this planet that has officially brought millions of its people out of poverty. Does the West have any such example? Instead of wasting money in useless wars, China is working for the betterment of its people and the West simply doesn't like it. I have no doubt that the next agricultural revolution will come out of China and China will become the source of providing food globally. I think it is time now that the West change its mindset and policies toward China and instead of trying to contain China, they should join China's efforts for the betterment of mankind and spread it across the globe, learn and share experiences, I swear this world could be a much better place then what it has now become. Simply put, China cannot be contained, no matter what.

China plants more trees each year than the rest of the world combined and you can check this straight from Google Academics, and the only reason you don't know about it is because a lot of people don't want you to know, there are countless technologies and experiences about tree planting comes from it that can be extended to other Asia and Africa countries. While someone's hometown will only have a lot of "Greta" in private jets to attend the UN meeting, it is difficult for Chinese people to listen to some country with full house air conditioning and private jets and also not even be able to controlling forest fires to teach others how to "environmental protection"and "carbon emission" .Just like Taylor Swift wouldn't let me teach her how to sing.❤

To improve environment and reduce CO2 , China spends lot lot of money (subsidies) to develop green technologies like solar electricity, wind electricity and electrical vehicles. Initially US and EU praised China for that and provide assistance and now all got banned by US under accusations of over production…now I even saw accusation about the 10 year no fishing project in Yangtze River. Anything good can be turned to attack China

Moving into cities doesn't lead to a desertification, but the process was finalizes when the private property left the countryside and other human activities like "unchecked grazing" + "unchecked hunting" and a deliberate extinction took place. These deserts are MAN MADE and thus, they can be solved by replanting and removing the human activity.

My criticism is they are growing another "crop" all be it with significant carbon capture. As commented below (Mossy Earth), for increasing biodiversity you need to mix the species planted using local adapted species and creat a "forest". Even in a forest, there is a potential for harvest if that is one aim of the project.

Problem is you’re talking about low biodiversity trees vs no trees. I have to assume they’re only able to plant desert-resistant trees anyway, and the proper biodiverse forests wouldn’t survive in these initially arid environments. Why not solve the problem first before introducing more biodiversity?

China don't have typical western mentality that I want to see result tomorrow. Just like the current generation of Chinese success was built on hard work and sacrifice of previous generation of hardworking Chinese. You can't reach the moon in one step. China has plenty other projects to reduce carbon emission and capture carbon. But stopping desertification is a already a positive step in saving existing farmland saving carbon capture.

I'm glad he mentioned the problems with monoculture. Too many tree and plant restoration projects have resulted in major problems. Planting millions of the same tree in huge areas has resulted in forest fires (pine, spruce) which wiped out most of the efforts, as these trees are highly flammable, even in their green state. There are no barriers to fire spread with other kinds of trees. Another, as he pointed out, is pest infestation. Beetles and other insects can spread unfettered if all the trees are the same - they just move from tree to tree. Wildlife may not come to mono-planted areas due to lack of food. Animals come for nuts, fruits, seeds and other edibles. Certain trees don't provide much food source, so these planting areas can remain absolutely empty of wildlife. Other than timber, the control of erosion and the encouragement of rain, these monoculture plantings do not work with nature. Evergreens also discourage smaller plant growth due to acid needle drop. When there is no undercover of the forest floor, there is no spreading of seed of smaller plants to surrounding areas by the birds and other animals. These are sterile plantings and should be discouraged. Propagation of native plants in a wide variety should be the standard, unless it's just for lumber.

@AccountsNarappa 5 ай бұрын
@@goldriverbank6647 Not at all an expert. just a common sense. Just see the vacate land or deserted place during the rainy season. First there should be enough wet, then grass shows up and grows enough and dries up. wet, shady and organic content ( dried leaves) place is where micro organisim live. micro organism eat the dried up leaves and dies as its time comes will become compost. In a next rainy season the cycle is created and grass, shade and dried up matter and microbs and compost. if enough food it gives rise to shrubs. shrubs give way to small trees. it all depends on how much rainfall that area gets. if it is dryland with minimum rainfall and trees will be small and takes years to grow. and in heavy rainfall it grows fast. healty and big. my idea is to dig a pit deep of 3 feet square or round of 10 to 15 feet with 5 to 10 feet way from each other. sown a grass seeds and water it regularly or when rain comes pity will fill and will take care for water need for some days due to hallow pit. Grass grows and we will create micro organism atmosphere there. After we satisfied with grass covering plant small trees. grass will hold the water and will not allow water to dry. now we have created the environment to grow. we should not grow mono crop. we should grow multipal varieties of trees so it welcomes wild to it. birds, rats ,pigs deers etc and its predators. birds and pigs deer they eat and shit and will take the seed to far of places and makes a big self sustaining forest.
