Breathable air is really the limiting factor especially in the lower levels as CO2 is heavier than air and will settle in low points. The scrubbers must work on space magic to take in the CO2 and release Oxygen. Even the best nuclear submarines and the Space station need to replenish their oxygen.
@Snagabott4 жыл бұрын
Turning CO2 into carbon products and Oxygen is not difficult provided you have energy - plants and plankton do it all the time. Clearly Coruscant has access to large power plants to run its artificial atmosphere. Btw, if that planet has the same gravity as Earth, the scale height of air would be about 8500 m at room temperature. This means that 8500 m down the air would be a factor e denser. We can clearly see in the shows that the air pressure at the surface is quite pleasant, so it must be close to 1 bar. If that's true, 17km down, density would be e^2, which is 7.4 bar - enough that a human would narc out, and if you went down there, you would need to observe carfeul diving procedures or risk getting the bends when you go back up. Since people do after all live down there, I think it's likely they employ some pretty advanced global air management to prevent gasses and pressures from becoming unmanageable. They would obviously also have to employ some pretty advanced energy management to get rid of excess heat.
@EmperorRahem Жыл бұрын
Actually nuclear submarines use electrolysis to create oxygen and in theory could remain submerged until the nuclear rods were spent in 20-30 years(or you know, the crew starved to death because that's the primary reason submarines need to surface.)

Look Frankly Coruscant should be able to support a population into the literal Quintillions of people. Megacities on Earth *now* would be able to support billions just building out, assuming they had the infrastructure necessary to do it. Coruscant is a planetary city that is also built vertically from the planets surface and up - this whole planet should have a population of many hundreds of trillions on just one of its levels, the lowest alone, prior to the Vong war. There is so much space in this city that if we are to believe it is all populated, it is indeed one PLANETARY CITY, a proper Ecumenpolis, then there should be Quadrillions of people on it.

Coruscant is a city-planet. Let's assume it has a surface area of the Earth (>500 000 000 km2) as it is just a little smaller than Earth. With it population of 1 trillion, the population density should be 2000 intelligent lifeforms/km2, which is pretty low compare to some of the city we have right here on Earth. For example, Manilla has a population density of 41,515 humans/km2, Paris has 20,755 humans/km2 (source from Wikipedia). Not only that, Coruscant consists of many underground floors and miles-high skycrapers so it could easily contain not only a trillion but trillions of humans and other intelligent lifeforms. The problem is not housing but to provide essential services to its citizens.
@DeathBYDesign6664 жыл бұрын
Yes it can and is indeed a very low number. The number of giant structures throughout the entire surface of the planet can each hold several million in their own right and there are most likely several million of those. You can easily arrive at at least 10trillion with substantial room to spare. And that's all just considering the top level because there are indeed a few thousand levels below them gong down 1000s of kilometsrs. Each with its own planet sized city with within them.

I wonder how condensed you could make hydroponic or equivalent tower blocks? And how much output they might need to supply nearby habitation towers with all the foodstuff they might need. A planet like Coruscant might be far more self-sufficient in food, water and waste treatment then meets the eye.... assuming everything is running properly. If not then you might start to get warhammer hive city levels of resource scarcity which is what the low levels of Coruscant sound like.

Edited Again- this is your best video in years- way to go! Edited- you got it! What about post-industrial, low-population areas like The Works? Your analysis seems pretty spot on though- hard to argue there's only 1 trillion given this number. I suppose other questions would be how many tons of foodstuffs need to be imported daily. With repulsorlifts, droids, etc distribution is clearly super advanced. They also have an ocean, so they've probably got desalination tech up the wazoo

Coruscant was originally based on Trantor from Isaac Asimov’s books. Trantor is the capitol of a galactic empire that has ruled for well over ten thousand years. The surface is actually uninhabited and serves as a roof for the planetwide city, which doesn’t cover a several thousand square kilometer patch of land where the Imperial palace resides. The population is quoted at being 40 billion, which seems low for an ecumenopolis, but some have speculated this is due to much of the space being devoted to archives holding historical information from the empire’s long existence. One interesting thing to note is that it generates it’s power from the temperature difference between the day and night side. At night, massive radiator towers extend hundreds of kilometers and retract during the day. The planet is said to look very dynamic as the towers rise and sink at the terminator.

The problem isn't fitting in all these people together, but rather to sustain them. This in turn, affect the living costs, which is likely astronomical even for the most deepest ones available. Then imagine the infrastructure that is a pre-requisite to keep this city running, and in essence, you will get similar picture to any terran planet, except surface is made of steel, warehouses, power production and every piece of support infrastructure will occupy somewhat similar size as oceans, operated by droids, so figure of single trillion is almost generous.

If you have cheap energy to power hydroponic farms, the main limit on population is waste heat. Sticking a giant shade (it can let visible light through and block infrared) between the planet and the sun helps, but eventually you'll wind up cooking yourselves. Installing space towers or orbital rings connected to the planet and pumping heat up to be dispersed into space with radiators might help, too, but that's a fairly inefficient way of disposing of heat.

In Colin Trevorrow's version of Episode 9 'Duel of the Fates', we would have visited Coruscant taken over by the First Order. Wish we got this since this would actually help tie in all three trilogies.
@philippeamon72714 жыл бұрын
Because nostalgia? So all that killing the First Order did, was so they could sit in the ruins of the former "capital", while having the populace turned against them, due to the extreme civillian casualties? There's lot's of business on Coruscant, but in the galactic economy, there is no money there - the hyperspacelane nexus is of little strategic significance to their military conquest, buying the Resistance decades to mount a force against them... All because they're sentimental of a system, that they don't believe in? (The Empire was politically "friendly", like the NCR, but the First Order is more like the Legion, in Fallout New Vegas, difference is that they both have just 1 top-dog). It was the Emperor who wanted Coruscant in order to piss on the Jedi, he didn't "make it the Imperial capital" for military reasons, the Senate was already there. If there hadn't been a significant Jedi Temple, he would probably have worked faster to disband the Senate, and make his stronghold somewhere in the mid-rim, where he could more easily choke the Rebellion. It doesn't really make sense.
@s4m_12234 жыл бұрын
@@philippeamon7271 well, I'm not saying Trevorrow's version of Ep 9 would have been better than what we got. It's just that it would have been nice to see Coruscant again. Because the Sequel Trilogy seemed to be lacking the Prequel sources.

What I don't understand about Coruscant is what actually _is_ the surface/ground level? Is it the ground where you can still see the sky? The "red light district" Obi-Wan and Anakin chase the assassin to in AOTC? Or the slums of the underworld? Is the underworld the planet's surface and everything else is built miles into the sky? Is the upper class living in what would be the height of commercial aircraft in the real world? Or is the underworld - the massive pits - holes literally bored through the surface into the ground and towards the planetary core? If that's the case, has Coruscant, as a planet, been rendered largely hollow?
