The fact that Erin gets different tasting notes, and is confident enough to have her own opinion, shows how subjective the experience can be and how everyone needs to be comfortable having their own experience.

Thanks for the comparison video. I got super lucky and snagged a 2023 release Thirteenth Colony Double Oaked Bourbon last night. I think it released a couple days ago. The George T. I think the 13th Colony Double Oaked is selling closer to $200. At least that is what I am seeing on online retailers like Sielbachs and Bourbon Outfitter when they got their allocation.

I’ve done this blind and the answer is no! 😜 13th Colony is great but doesn’t hold a candle to GTS. There was just too much bitterness and artificial flavor on 13th colony for my palate but it’s still a great pour

I've never had any BTACs. Which would you choose between GTS and WLW, if you could only have one?
@stuffandwhiskey Жыл бұрын
Josh here. Generally speaking, I’ve been more impressed with WLW on balance, but there are a few years where GTS has been special. 2022 was a powerful year for GTS but there’s a lot of 8-15 year barrel proof rye-based Kentucky bourbon out there. Finding high proof, well aged wheaters is much more difficult which makes WLW a bit more special.

100% amazing well said! It's really why labeling one thing "better" than another is really difficult to do in whiskey. It's just like any food or beverage in that it can be incredibly mood-dependent as to what you might prefer on any given day.

I guess I'm in the minority. The 13th colony reminds me of Texas whiskey. Dark and deep, but young. I did not love it. It still sits on my shelf. I don't go back often. When I do go back, it's hard to drink for me. GTS on the other hand, pretty much any year, doesn't last past 2 weeks after opening. Not even close to me, and I have blinded with friends as well. We all agree, they are not comparable. 🤙🏼😎
@stuffandwhiskey Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Some people are sensitive to some of the oak characteristics that double oaking can impart. We will say it's one thing to single blind them and know what you're drinking but not what's in each glass vs. tasting these double blind and having no clue you're drinking either one.

I think that flippers have gotten very smart with automated bots. It’s a pretty simple process to set something up that will check availability and automatically purchase a bottle. They can even spoof multiple logins/accounts to get around purchase limits. If you start to see these bottles hit secondary sites, you’ll know how they got them.

Right off the bat I wish someone would define the term "craft" whisky. Does it just mean a new, small distiller? Or is it something else? Everybody uses the term but no one ever defines i, and frankly as far as I can tell it has about as much real meaning as "small batch."
@stuffandwhiskey Жыл бұрын
Craft as an overall term would be non-legacy, smaller operations. Bardstown Bourbon Company is new but not craft because they’re massive whereas a place like Thirteenth Colony could be considered craft as they’re relatively small and new (even though they’re over a decade old… that’s still young in the whiskey world for a distillery).
@squirreljam224010 ай бұрын
Why wouldn't you blind taste just double oaks to each other and cask strength to each other? Keep them separate in their own categories.
@stuffandwhiskey10 ай бұрын
We're not really proponents of trying to keep things exactly the same in double blind tastings, because when you have no clue what's in either glass, it can really reveal personal preferences. These are both cask strength, both similar in proof (proof is the one thing we do try to keep very close in blinds as a higher proof can often wash out a lower proof), both have received a lot of praise, and we wanted to see how they came across when we didn't know we were drinking either one (as well as which we preferred). Great question!
@993C2S5 ай бұрын
I think to be realistic you cannot state a retail price on a bottle that is selling for 10-15 times the suggested retail price. That simply makes no sense. Your price list MUST state the going online price. It’s absolutely irrelevant what the suggested retail price is. Take Pappy 23 for example. If you review it and say retail $299, that would be laughable at best. Because it is over $4000.
@stuffandwhiskey5 ай бұрын
We certainly discuss the inflated pricing in every video, but that’s a constantly moving target, and the idea of evaluating the whiskey blind at suggested retail is more telling as there are many times where bottles don’t measure up even at suggested retail (much less the inflated pricing that’s out there), which speaks volumes. Pappy 23 is a great example as it’s been on the channel multiple times. Of course it’s a thumbs down at $5,000, but it’s even fallen short at suggested retail of $300, which makes the crazy prices even more ridiculous.
@peterpete5848 Жыл бұрын
I can't get neither of them. Therefore, irrelevant.
