Can DJI Even Compete? Potensic Atom (3-Axis) Drone Review

DJI has very few cheap drones anymore, can DJI even compete with this new competitor? The Potensic Atom? Just freshly upgraded from the Potensic Atom SE, this Potensic Atom drone with its new 3 axis gimbal has a lot of new features. Do they make that big of a difference? Did Potensic make the right move by adding this 3 axis gimbal to the atom. Is this drone better than DJI?

I have none of the issues you speak of maybe I have a later firmware number. My biggest reason I love this drone over my dji is the picture quality is on par and I deal with no GEOFENCING. I've been on vacation with my dji only to be grounded or have to request permission to fly in an area where drones are permitted. With this its on me to decide where to fly.

Got a fly more package from Potensic Ebay store, a refurbished or open box for 250! Flies like a charm, image quality for this price is amazing! Easy to fly, great app, and they keep updating the firmware! Way to go Potensic against the DJI dominance!

I like it. It was my first drone and I think it's brilliant. It flies really well and I'm not after some cinematic excellence, that's why I didn't splash on a DJI. Recent updates improved a lot of things as well. Considering the fly more package's price this is excellent.

I'd agree with you on the price point of the fly more pack, if you break it down to the component parts at retail cost the drone and controller is £118 out of the total price of £329 in the UK

I have a potensic T25. You have to turn half of it off to stop it running away by itself, often towards lakes. There is also a massive delay on the auto land making it almost useless. Still a good drone though if you most of its "features" off.

The 3 axis potensic is much better than the drop you talked about. I reviewed it too and if you're interested in it, I'd say it's worth it's price absolutely.

Hi, can the drone be used without phone? I.E. connect drone to Tx and fly LOS? Also i watched Potensic video on connecting,,, i am confused, do yo have to connect the Tx and then also connect your phone? Can anyone help my Atom arrives today. Thanks.

You can fly without the phone, however it's basically like blind flying, you have no visual or telemetry feedback on what the drone is doing, no altitude, no heading, no direction, speed ect, so bottom line whilst it is certainly possible to fly just with the controller it's certainly not advisable 👌🏻

Fimi X8 pro is a lot heavier drone, over 700 grams...so it depends on what you want to do with it. The Fimi X8 will handle a lot more wind than the Potensic Atom which is under 250g.

Yes, the lower light situations produced the most softness and possibly color shift with the ATOM. Conversely, image sharpness in the corners is clearly better/sharper in good/strong light.

I have always thought that DJI was overpriced, but the fact of the matter is nobody touches them when it comes to features and performance and reliability...BUT, they're not perfect, but they are the leaders for a good reason. But competition is good! I have a mini 4 Pro, and after the latest firmware update that they did, it's more a question of "what does it not do" as opposed to "what does it do" ..and if they add any more stuff to it, it will be too damn complicated and overwhelming for your average Joe....oh, wait...I'm Joe, but I'm not average...👊🏻

What the hell I've never had any of these so-called issues that you claim with this drone.. it's rock solid it never wanders unless you take off without having GPS satellites almost everything that you talked about with this drone I have not even encountered.. Sounds a little nitpicky😮

Is this the only drone you have owned? The issues with flight stability was under the same field I test everything. It usually is troublesome for the gps and it’s a good test. The image quality is better but still not great in low light environments. I would be interested to know about your experiences flying the same conditions.

I fully agree, if you try hard enough you can make anything look bad, I've flown hubsan zinos mavic minis mini2 air 2 phantom 4 pro v2 and mini 3 Pro, and the potensic atom produces results that straight of the memory card look very impressive to me colours are way better in my opinion on the atom compared to the mini2, in short I'm not on djis payroll I say it like it is the potensic is a fantastic sub 250g drone.

@JaysTechVault you should try upgrading the firmware. My Atom does contain a lot of metadata to support the building of Orthophotos. I agree it's not to the same level as something like a Mavic 3 Pro, obviously, but it's not bad.

Im only here looking at the Atom because of DJI's horrible geofencing restrictions. I used to have a Parrot Anafi and i could fly it anywhere. DJI locks you out of even flying it in your own yard.

Some have had signal issues in places where other drones fly just fine. The difference in price between this one, which finally has a 3-axis gimbal, and the mini 2 SE, both with the Fly More package, is $100. Why do reviewers feel this one is better than the big name DJI? The average guy seems to think this one is a great deal while the guys who have flown many brands favor the DJI. Can DJI compete? You've discussed many items where DJI is much better.

DJI will never have competition. They have amazing products for solid prices (even people from less fortunate countries like myself can afford a dji osmo pocket and not have to starve for the next few weeks) good customer relations, good software, tech support 24/7, a freaking warranty renewal (insurance) for your devices, etc...

I strongly disagree with you, DJI is very expensive in some countries. I live in Brazil, I bought a potensic fly more kit for 400 dollars, if I bought a DJI mini 3 I would have to spend 1200 dollars. There is no way that the DJI mini 3 worth three times more than this model in the video. And again Im just talking about the reality of my country

cant beat the price of the fly more bundle. Having three batteries is a lifesaver since i like to travel with this drone. I never have to worry about running out of battery. I will always have enough to last me the day. Never had an issue with this drone, everything works flawlessly. The main reason i bought this over the DJI mini 2 se is because DJI is a Chinese government backed company that poses national security threats and has been blacklisted by the US government. Id prefer to stay away from their products personally and considering the current sate of affairs between the US and China. No thanks.

You do know that potensic are also Chinese, whether there are connected to the Chinese government I don't know for sure, but given that most companies are under the direct control of the government in one way or another I guess it's a mute point 👍🏻

It could have been a great hiker/biker drone and a real alternative to a DJI MIni. ..........if Potensic had given it given it follow-me that worked just as on my $130 drone. Instead they removed it and added useless active-track.

@@dotslashsatan Autonomous flight is allowed within 50 meters. Even if VLOS meant it can't fly behind you then that's my whole point. With follow-me, if it's the right type' you can put it in front of you in view. I don't know about you, but I wasn't born with an extra pair of eyes in the back of my head. And without obstacle avoidance, which BTW isn't 100%, you have to constantly turn your head like Regan in the Exorcist to see what your Potensic Atom is doing. Or you have to stare at the screen the whole time and hope you yourself won't bump into something. I watched a video some other day and the Atom flew right at the guy riding his bike. If it's you it's not a big problem. But if it is someone else you may fly it right it their face or a car windscreen. Don't think a DJI Mini 4 Pro does any better. You can't even control it in that silly auto 360 mode. People who never had a drone with a correctly programmed follow-me just have no ideas how much more useful it is than optical tracking. No that I am against active-track. It's a great feature when used right. But on a bike it gets annoying very soon having to stop and stop and stop again. Ask people cycling around the world; Nobody uses it. They fly it manually, or use follow-me if they have it.

DJI has their sights set on bigger fish. Until you try one of the Atom drones, open your mind. Ten times the price for those other Chinese drones is not "a little more". I have no desire to support the inefficiencies inherent in that business model. But governments and large businesses around the world sure do. Soon, our hobby may be forbidden. Bought out by politicians. I have both Potensic Atoms. Yes, they really work. Nothing miraculous. Current technology at modern prices.
