Superb display by the Red Roses against a very strong Canadian team. Someone who is increasingly impressive with her tactical and all round ability is young Lucy Packer. Definitely deserves to be the no.9 on for 80 minutes. Love Mo, a great player but age will be against her for 2025 world cup but should be part of the squad in any event. John Mitchell will have a bit of a headache when Meg Jones and Claudia Macdonald return to fitness.. Not sure who should be first choice for the no. 10 shirt between Zoe Harrison and Holly Aitchison! Both brilliant players and controllers of the game. Mustn't forget the great Emily Scarratt who is a vital part of the squad for the world cup as is Tatyana Heard. Needless to say all the squad are super stars but as an Abby Dow fan she is a superb no. 14!, the best there is. Ellie and Jess are wonderful but Jess could be under a bit of pressure as first choice when Claudia returns. Jess's pace versus Claudia's elusive runs! The forwards definitely need a mention as a formidable part of the squad. Love Zoe Aldcroft and Alex Matthews as my stand out favourites but it's difficult to choose as they are all so good. Must not forget the coaching and all the support staff led by the mercurial John Mitchell and of course the best defense coach the wonderful Sarah Hunter and Louis Deacon and Lou Meadows the outstanding forward and attack coaches. If I've forgotten to mention the other playing stars my sincere apologies, it is no way a reflection of my assessment of your undoubted talents and vital contribution to the squad. Just run out of words and superlatives!

I think that there is still time for John Mitchell to be giving some youngsters more game time as there are several players - who, in my opinion, are in their twilight years and should not be first on the team sheet. Marlie Packer may be the captain but has slowed down, gives away too many penalties and is not as inspirational as she was. I would always pick Tatiana Heard over the fading Emily Scarrett and I have watched Phoebe Murray at Bristol and her brief run out in WVX and she is good .Even as a Gloucester supporter, Mo Hunt would not be my first choice 9 . I would go for Lucy Packer first with Ella Wyrwas or even Claudia McDonald next. 10 is a tricky one. To me there is little to choose between Holly Aitcheson and Zoe Harrison but in recent years we have seen much more of the former and she was impeccable in both the 6 Nations and WXV 2023. At the risk of being controversial, I would be tempted to play Megan Jones or Helena Rowland who are both better at 10 than 12/13. Emma Sing is a better 15 than Ellie Kildunne. Full back is primarily a defensive position and there is no way that Ellie can be considered a good defender as we all saw in WXV. She is a very talented player so I would be tempted to play her elsewhere in the backs.

@@stevemathews9535 My concerns , Mitchell seems determined to run it from anywhere, which isn't always sensible. England's rolling maul is nowhere as effective as was, probably not spending anywhere as much time in training on this element. Out of the five matches this autumn, only one rolling maul from 31 tries. In the next couple of years France, will become a major threat. They have scored 70+ points twice against England u20,s

@stevemathews9535 Really interesting appraisal. My main comments are firstly that Emily Scarratt is still in my humble opinion good enough (still to peak after the long period of injury) with her nous and great experience to be in the world cup squad even if by then she is not a first choice for the 12 or 13 shirt. Secondly, good a full back as Emma Sing might be for her club, she didn't make the WVX1 squad, though she is still rightly part of the overall training squad. Even with EK's defensive shortcomings, which she will improve on, her tremendous attacking skills and flair overrides these concerns even if the position is primarily defensive. Besides where else would you put her and in place of whom? She definitely cannot be omitted, on that we can both agree.

@@mikebarnard7957 My point about Ellie Kildunne is that her poor defence has resulted in tries being conceded that probably outnumber tries scored by her, not a risk I would be prepared to take. It appears that she is considered "undroppable" so would have to be fitted in elsewhere. At the risk of sparking a public outrage, I would drop Jess Breach. She is poor defensively, cannot kick (on her own admission) and has rarely scored tries as a result of her own brilliance (unlike Abby Dow). Putting my head below the parapet now.

Hey come guys, I think these women on both sides played an excellent game of running rugby, their game is just as exciting as that of the men but it is always sad to see so many empty seats in the stands. I think it is fair to say women's rugby deserve same support the men's games receive.
