the main reason the boxing in mma is so different is because of the threat of the takedown. it literally changes the whole way you fight

You forgot to mention kicks, and also knees and elbows. The ref also doesn't stop and give you a short break if you ever get knocked down, but I'm not sure how much that really changes the way you fight. A boxer can go down easily to take a little bit of rest in a pinch, but boxers also lose a lot more points from a "flash knockdown" (i.e. soft knockdown where they don't take a lot of damage), because any knockdown loses you a point, but in mma, you can score multiple knockdowns and still only win a round 10 to 9 (happens too often imo). Of course, in mma, even if you're not badly hurt, going down after being hit can still be very bad, as it often allows the other fighter to gain top control on the ground, but it seems to usually not amount to much more than landing a good strike without any knockdown would.

@@syncmonism Yeah, they REALLY need to get more liberal with 10-8's and 10-7's in MMA. It shouldn't be entirely dependent on a knockdown, though. Like Noah said, GnP can be pretty nasty. If fighter A takes down fighter B in the first minute of the round, and spends the next four minutes pounding on them and attempting submissions, no way in hell should that be a 10-9.

This is my youtube comment account cant really slip and roll in mma else you risk eating a knee or front kick. Boxing defense doesnt transition well into mma and vice versa. Maybe francis is taking this into account and joins a proper boxing gym to adapt his style but im kind of doubtful and hes trying to fight the top dogs right away like tyson fury which is foolish. He could have success fighting other boxers since deontay made it pretty far despite the bad techniques he had most of his career like windmill punching and crossing his feet.

@Searching for Ufos Deontay Wilder serves as an example of Ngannou's potential ceiling. While he's a more skilled boxer it's not by much and he's solely reliant on his once-in-a-lifetime knockout power. If Ngannou possesses similar levels of knockout power with boxing gloves, then he can hang with the upper echelon of heavyweight boxing. Or at least long enough to make bank off of a couple of money fights. But again, that's a big IF.

One thing that people overlook in professional sports is mindset. Of course if you look at Ngannou, he's an absolute beast of a man, but then you look at his struggle, his upbringing and work ethic and the real beast is his mind. The guy has the mentality to excel in whatever field he desires. Of course boxing is more of a sport than MMA (what i mean by that is the closer inspection of points tallies and accumulation of other factors that lead to high-low scoring judges cards.) He will need to adapt to the sport, play the game intelligently and learn how to move his neck a little more flexibly off center. But apart from that, he's a monster of a man, he'll duke it out with anyone. But he may get picked apart by a higher IQ fighter who's trained boxing their whole life. Maybe the increase in glove size could work to his advantage, it could be freeing knowing that theres a little more padding on your opponent's gloves. His main issue might be cardio and opponents with incredible technical skill. Put him in the ring with a brawler..and I'll put my money on Francis, put him in with Fury...not a hope in hell.

@@STiergoofball First of all, the fight with Fury will never happen. But even if it did, it would sell like shit, Fury would get at least 80% of the purse, Ngannou will have to take 12 months to prepare for it, and all in all he will end up making less money than if he just stayed in the UFC. But again, this fight isn't happening. Fury just talking shit to get Usyl to sign the contract Secondly, the PFL cannot possibly match the UFC's offer. They don't have the money for it, and Ngannou isn't as valuable when he isn't fighting the best in the world. So they won't make enough money from his fights to cover the cost of what the UFC offered him. Third, Ngannou told his gullible fans he was leaving because the UFC wouldn't provide insurance, fighter's advocate and in-cage sponsors. But boxing and PFL don't have those things, which shows that Ngannou was lying from the start.

I think actually the biggest issue is, Ngannou is a sprinter and even after 1 round he becomes fatigued. This is not because he doesnt train cardio, he does. It's just his body type, fast twitch explosive muscles and a ton of mass similar to guys like Mark Coleman, Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar. George Foreman when he came back and weighed around 260 trained 5 hours a day on the heavy bag from what I heard. But he still got tired. Rocky Marciano had a similar extreme training regime but he weighed intentionally only 185 pounds, he cut down to that weight from around 200 and more in order to punch 99% power on all of his punches for 15 rounds straight. If Francis is going to have a chance at going 12 rounds he needs to adopt a training regime similar to Foreman and Marciano that focuses on being able to throw full power punches for round after round, as well as learning to pace himself.

Fury would win via knockout in rnd 3, intangibles such as distancing, timing, pacing, endurance, economy of punches, footwork, boxing skills, come to play. Whilst Deontay may not be a great technical boxer, he is able to read his opponent, and perform well in the aforementioned skills. The question is, to become a HW champion can he knockout either of the belt holders?? Fury: Not even remote chance. (Got up 3-4 times from Wilders best punches) Usyk: Definitely a puncher’s chance. But it isn’t as easy to get to Usyk. Joshua tried twice and failed. So the answer is NOT anytime soon!!
@ultimetacooler
@ultimetacooler Жыл бұрын
Usyk would make him look like an amateur and dominate into the late rounds and likely stop him due to his stamina giving out. Fury would pick him apart from the opening bell and land at will without taking much damage back, he could probably end it in 6~ rounds or less. No chance he wins a title with the current title holders and his current skill set

If he learns a good defensive style and manages his gas tank he can go far. He’s a very good athlete and smart fighter, if he puts it together over time across some smaller fights he could be a decent pro, get a bag, and lose to a real champ. The good ol MMA retirement plan

He's 36 with bad knees, he doesn't have time to become good at boxing. And unless he loses huge amounts of muscle, he will never have the stamina to be competitive.

If he goes into boxing, he has a good chance in early rounds, I think he can get some people out of there in rounds 1-6, but I can't see him doing good in late round fights if they go the distance, he will gas.

@Dumb Yet Smarter Than You Francis won't be going into regular boxing, it will be celebrity boxing and one off fights Vs people like Fury. He isn't going to be a full time regular boxer fighting regular, at his age.

@Dumb Yet Smarter Than You Any ranked heavyweight has better cardio than Ngannou. He will be gassed in a few rounds. He has no cardio at all, and boxing is higher intensity than mma. He gases super easy in mma even when people keep their distance and there's little output. In boxing, he's getting jabbed to death from round one. He will be huffing for air in no time. Ngannou has no chance of being a successful boxer. His only hope is one big exhibition match against a big name, in which he loses and then never boxes again.

The honest, non sugarcoated truth: He's now bigger than ever... Throughout his entire career, he's only been able to use the tiniest bit of foot work... for one round... ONE round and his footwork is gone. Always. On top of that, he's gonna find out that hey, these boxers have just as good, if not better, doping strategies... You aren't gonna be the only kid on the block with the juice. The power is going to be equal with someone like a Wilder. Not to mention, can you imagine the counters someone like wilder would throw if Ngannou plods forward throwing his classic eyes-closed windmill punching??? It's gonna go terrible. My worst fear is he's gonna gas in 1 round, get beat bad then someone like Fury is gonna call out Jon Jones or something. He should just go to PFL and just give braln damage to all of the debt-ridden jobbers they feed him.

Post match Fury fight he was introduced as new challenger for heavyweight boxing 🥊 1. He injury prone 2. Doing for the money mostly cause boxing pays hell lot more , left UFC cause of money dispute 3. Will need 2 years to adapt only on boxing dynamic

Factoring in 2 years of unemployment, he will not make more than if he stayed and fought in the UFC under the new contract. Plus in 2 years, he will be even less relevant than today so the fight is less appealing to top boxers and promoters.

I don’t think it’s so much as love for boxing at this point than it is making money. He can make a fight and after still decide what route he’d rather go. If he’d like another boxing match against A opponent of B or C etc then he can do that. Compared to the UFC, you sign a contract for X amount of fights. Can he be an elite level boxer? Nah, but he has that power that basically defies logic. Some guys just have that TNT in them. I’d say do a couple boxing matches and if he still wants to continue he can. After that I’m sure he can still fight in Bellator or One. The latter having specialized types of fights. Grappling, kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA. The last thing I’ll say is for as late as he came into professional combat sports. He’s made his mark and his name will be forever etched in the history books. Happy for him and continue to support him in his endeavors.

Francis fights once MAYBE twice a year. If he keeps that up no way he gets anywhere in boxing. Even if he fought more way back when it doesn't matter since he is 36 so he most likely won't be ready to fight till he's 37. Also just because Fury and Canelo and some other big names in boxing make a ton of money it doesn't mean he will. Outside MMA fans who even knows this guy?

Defenitely would've had a much better chance a few years ago, when he was more in his prime. Imo I think he still has a decent chance at preforming will in boxing despite starting at 36, he has a past in boxing, I don't think he'll become a multiple belt holder and he doesn't have much of a chance in defeating Tyson Fury at all, but he'll most likely be able to win several fights and probably retire with a highly positive Win/Loss ratio for the few years he can box for.

I think a good analogy is armwrestling and worlds strongest man. The top strong man competitor loses to top arm wrestler quite easily in armwrestling. It’s interesting to see strongman like Thor lose to a smaller man like Devon Larat who is much smaller in armwrestling.
