Considering some of the personalities in the UFC, I find Francis Ngannou to be incredibly humble. The more I learn about his story, the more I respect him.
@Sdot-od8jf2 жыл бұрын
Bro in a way I feel that Francis is so pure. Like he isn’t corrupted by or held back by pre-conceived notions. “UFC doesn’t cover heath insurance?” -Francis is like “no, that doesn’t make sense, it has to change”.. while other champions just accept it as fact. He has absolute confidence and conviction. He just demands respect and fair treatment. Simple.

He’s a disloyal narcissist who treats everyone like shit. I hated how he treated his old coach, and I find it very tasteless when the UFC stars want Mayweather money just because one or two boxers make a ton of money. They have zero appreciation of how much the UFC spends marketing them. That said, the fighters should make at least 50% of the profits.
@AveSicarius2 жыл бұрын
@@kaltkalt2083 I mean, do you even understand how much money the UFC is making currently? Do you know how much the upper management is being paid? Do you know the actual net profit the UFC is making on every fight? Fighters are literally putting their long term health on the line for our entertainment. They are the primary producers for the UFC and they contribute the essential labour that allows the company to actually, you know, make money. In return they are paid absolutely nothing relative to how much money is being made off them, seeing that the UFC is making so much money should make them want to have a bigger portion of that. I personally think it's a little ridiculous that football players and boxer's are paid so much, especially because plenty of other people involved in creating the fight aren't paid well at all, but at least they are getting a large reward for being at the heart of a lucrative industry. If the essential labour for every industry was paid in such a way, well, we likely wouldn't have some of the major economic issues plaguing us currently to worry about. I would say that the upper Boxer's are still exploited compared to how much they should be making, and Boxing is pretty bad in regards to how poorly fighters are often treated if they aren't champion. But all industries are exploitative, all of the people at the top will take as much as they get for as little as possible, they will wring out every possible drop until you are used up, and then they will throw you away. So given the short active life of an athlete, especially with the risks involved in combat sports, I don't have a problem with fighters wanting as much money as possible. Realistically they need to take as much as they can get while they are in the spotlight, because fame is fickle and unless you have some way to transition into another industry like media or advertisment, you might have issues providing for yourself and your family, especially because the initial wealth poorer people gain is often spent superfluously. Realistically speaking even 1,000,000 pounds/dollars is sufficient to live the rest of your life if you know what you are doing, but having enough such that you can both stop fighting and ensure your comfort, and that of your family, for the rest of your life is incredibly alluring. This is why so many fighters are going over to Boxing exhibition matches as they have far less chance of injury and make more money than they might have in their entire career. Sometimes you have to exploit the system, even if you want it to change, because this won't happen unless a significant number of the community agree on that change. As for his character, I've personally neither met the man or seen enough about him to comment on that. He does seem to have had a little of the Mike Tyson phenomena, where he was surrounded by YesMen and parasites who inflated his ego, but he doesn't seem to have gone completely nuts in the way other poorer fighters have done when they reached that position. He's certainly no Conor in this regard, nor is he a Floyd Mayweather.
@kaltkalt20832 жыл бұрын
@@AveSicarius I agree with you here, actually my big pet peeve with the UFC (and I posted this in a second comment here somewhere) is that there’s no such thing as a non-independent contractor… that’s called an employee. The UFC benefits greatly by calling the fighters independent contractors. Well ok, then there are benefits of being an independent contractor which the fighters should get too. Namely, they can fight for any other company whenever they want. They can’t use a UFC title in another promotion, that’s a trademark issue … but if Ngannou wants to fight for bellator or box Tyson Fury, then as an independent contractor his only responsibility is to not double book himself for two fights on the same night with different customers, I mean promotions. Realistically athletic commissions wouldn’t allow that anyway (or fighting in the UFC one day and bellator the next day). I’m a lawyer, though I don’t do labor law I know a little about it, and the only other case of exclusive/dependent/non-independent contractors I’ve seen is with government contractors, like say Lockheed. They have a contract to make weapons for the US government. Part of that is that they can’t sell those weapons to other governments (and hopefully not to billionaires either, I don’t want zuckerburg or bezos having working, armed fighter jets). Not without permission, anyway. They may sell Lockheed weapons to the peaceful, certainly not an evil dictatorship, kind and loving Saudi Arabia, for example … but only because our government loves to spread democracy! Obviously Lockheed is profiting from that big spreading of democracy… but it wasn’t just them making a deal with the Saudis and having the government rubber stamp it in exchange for a cut of the profits. That would be spreading weapons not democracy! And that’s just impossible. But anyway, my only point is except for military contractors like Lockheed or Halliburton, and UFC fighters, there are no other cases of "exclusive independent contractors" anywhere of which I’m aware. Anywhere else it’s called EMPLOYEES. That said i just find the comparisons to boxing extremely disingenuous, because there are only a handful of boxers (3 or 4 at most) who make extremely good money. Everyone else makes shit. Look at what undercard fighters in boxing make. Way less than the least paid UFC fighters. I also find it extremely distasteful for real fighters to challenge these "boxers" who say I’ll fight you but no kicking, grappling, knees, elbows, submissions, no ground fighting, no spinning shit, no clinch fighting/dirty boxing, and no punches below the belt I’ll be wearing 2 inches below my nipples. Only in our pathetic pussified anti-thinking culture could or would anybody say such a thing and have it be seen as anything other than embarrassing. And for a real fighter to agree to that, well it’s just disgusting and not something I’d ever pay to see.

Then you cover it and I’m like “he did it again….captured it all better than I could have ever described it.” The portion going into the Gane fight my hair stood on end. I’ll never be able to explain to anyone how grateful I am that I was fully in the know of the stakes and what was on the line in that fight. I paid almost 5 grand so I could be there in the front and hug Francis and his team after they won. I knew his knee was injured…but that part I couldn’t tell anyone. I’ve never been more nervous in my life. I bet $2,000 on Gane so that if Francis lost I could absorb it emotionally. I’ve never once thought about that money again until now. Thank you! We really needed a video around Francis' situation as a community, this man deserves to have a good life after all he's been through. It's insane to even think that Dana and the UFC would stand against someone who had nothing, risked his life multiple times to HAVE A CHANCE to make his dreams come true--and to call him "egotistical", holy fucking shit; coming from a guy that has been dealing with the likes of Conor McGregor and Brock Lesnar for the last decade, it's fucking absurd to say the least. They took his money and freedom away, from a man who only exists now in the sport for being able to prove himself against all odds (multiple times), some people have that "clutch gene", the ability to make the best out of the worst situation and persevere against all odds. As crazy as it might sound, the only weakness Francis has ever shown in the sport, was after being catapulted and having things "easy" for a change, and now... Fuck, now I doubt even that would work against him. The poetry in the whole situation is fascinating, as you said, he proved his worth and ideals trhough adversity-in a light that even contradicts his brutal style and finishes-he's been nothing but virtuous, focused and confident, even in the way he won against Gane. This is a narrative in a lifetime, we can't take Francis' greatness for granted, nor his genuinity or battle. Great video, and another thanks. Francis is one of my favourite fighters and FOR SURE my favourite personality, not only in combat sports but as a whole. Lucky circumstances that just happened to benefit Khabib, and his team. Francis is playing this hand with nothing but his own chips on the table. An honorable legend. Chael Sonnen, who I am a fan of, really shocked me throughout the Francis story line, basically talking absolute nonsense, just to kiss Dana and UFC's arse, anything other than give him credit for his remarkable win despite the odds and his right to stand up for a fair contract.
@wetsaapbrehh78392 жыл бұрын
Chael has no relation to the UFC anymore though and he actually works for their competition. So I don't understand why he would be kissing Dana's ass. Could just be Chael's own personal opinions.
@milky_dromeda2 жыл бұрын
@@wetsaapbrehh7839 It is his personal opinion yes but to be fair he is right in what he said, as much as I want Francis to emerge victorious from this the reality is brutal, even Fury won't put his lineage on the line when fighting him, it'll be just a "special fight", it means that he does not care about him and is only chasing the payday which honestly won't be that big because you'd have to be willing to lose money if you are to promote that "special fight" somehow.
@vanhattfield82922 жыл бұрын
He had a contract, that he signed. You negotiate a contract BEFORE signing it, not after. If the UFC had bowed to his demansds they would be forced to do the same for every other fighter under contract. It makes no business sense at all. Naganou is responsible for researching and approving the terms offered in the contract he signed. If he is displeased with it, it is 100% on him.
@wetsaapbrehh78392 жыл бұрын
@@vanhattfield8292 I agree with your point here from a business perspective it sets a bad precedent. It’s so easy to spend other people’s money if you owned the UFC you wouldn’t wanna pay these dudes more either most likely.
@vanhattfield82922 жыл бұрын
@@wetsaapbrehh7839 Agreed. The UFC has done well by offering incentive based bouses that push the fighters to do their best. Many people do not realize that the goal and motivation for many fighters is getting aa contract with the UFC. Once that is achieved, it can be difficult to motivate the fighter to do the training needed to excel. The motivation is money, through the bonuses and the possability of an increase in their next contract. There is a reason that we only know a handful of names of the nearl 700 fighteres the UFC has under contract and that is because only a handful of guys can stay motivated enough t excel once the money starts flowing. Cheers!

This is the most sobering and succinct documentation of what has happened to poor Ngannou at the hands of the UFC, really childish and abhorrent behaviour that shows exactly how poorly fighters that don't tow the line are treated! Dana and the UFC so obviously play favourites, its pretty bad attacking this mans character yet the lick the balls of a man/more than one man that has committed crimes on camera and make up excuse after excuse for him. @@MusMasi totally agree mate, Francis literally knows what its like to have nothing in this world but his character and self belief and for someone to attack that must be truly soul destroying! Jesse appraised us all of this situation as it was ongoing. I felt at the time there was an epic movie in there. MMW undoubtedly thought that was exactly his sort of protagonist and knocked it out the park as always. I never rooted for anyone to win a fight as much as I did Francis that night. I knew how much was on the line. The ACL & MCL injury’s we’re a think I didn’t know till afterwards. But that took it from bravery, to downright foolhardiness. But then Francis isn’t like other humans. We have to keep remembering that he has already climbed Everest. This latest situation was only a hike up a grassy hillside. And now he is probably in line for 30 million guarantee and back end. He is set for life. Amazing. Nobody deserves it more. Thank you MMW. Unfortunately plenty of people also support this attitude, and they also support, directly or indirectly, the exploitation of employees like fighters by people who make incredible amounts of money off of them. Fighters get paid a miniscule percentage of even fight earnings, let alone what the company is making off of them in regards to merchandising and so on (because fighters are why people watch and support the UFC). The fact that round the clock medical support isn't available to athletes who literally risk their lives to fight for a company making so much money off of them just goes to show how little they value their employees, and how they see them as disposable in every way. Just like every other industry, the fighters are there to be used up until there is nothing left, after which they are discarded. I find it absolutely insane, because taking a more supportive and sustainable attitude towards your employees can be far more profitable down the line. A workman doesn't just abuse his tools until they break, they take care of them so that those tools continue to remain as effective as possible for the longest period of time. This is especially relevant when you have highly skilled employees who are specialized for the field you are employing them, when you have someone who does their job well and is responsible for the success of your company, you should reward them for that. Realistically speaking we need regulation that protects people in industries like this, we need regulation giving more rights to employees in general (like raising the abysmal minimum wage and adjusting it relative to inflation), but specifically for people in commerical combat sports like this legislation concerning mandatory health insurance also covering potential career ending injuries and fixing fighter wages at a fair % of earnings surrounding their performance. Unfortunately America is a country that gives employers more rights than employees, and sees wealth as equivalent to rights. Given the fact that they are currently experiencing a major economic crisis as a result of the top heavy resource distribution, the permanent debt the working class are in reducing consumption, the outsourcing of labour causing massive employment issues, favouritism in government subsidy (a serious amount is never given to small businesses who are responsible for a huge portion of employment further encouraging monopoly in times like this), leaving minimum wages at a rate that falls far, far below current inflation, and allowing employers to essentially neglect employee health as there is very little regulation concerning workplace environment, time off, and working hours. Their primary consumers are currently unable to actually consume due to system of debt they are trapped in, the unavailability of fair employment (and during the outbreak the loss of income as companies simply fired employees who couldn't work due to quarantine protocol), and neverending inflation of product prices (which is completely out of whack with production costs, which if anything are getting relatively cheaper). It's like seeing your house is on fire, and rather than realizing that you need to put it out so you can rebuild it with less flammable materials you pour gasoline on and hope it burns out before it reaches you. I'm convinced most of the people who actually have serious economic influence have no idea how the economy actually works, Dana might be rich, but he doesn't seem to understand how much he needs fighters like Ngannou, and how trying to exploit them could come back to haunt him later. It's like these people have no clue about investment despite that being the best way to actually increase your assets. Even from a self-serving perspective, keeping your workforce happy and healthy ups their efficiency, promotes loyalty to you, and will likely result in benefits down the line as you are essentially investing in that individual. This same logic applies to social support systems, if you give people an education, keep them healthy (without having to survive a "Pay2Live" healthcare system), give them a way to get to and from work cheaply, and provide for them when they cannot work, you see more educated workers that benefit employers far more, they can work harder and for longer due to being healthier, they can actually afford to consume even when they have issues preventing them from working, which stimulates the economy, and you have invested in a system that will likely also benefit distribution methods. Not to mention that happy and healthy people just make the world around us a better place, and are more likely to contribute something meaningful. It's absolutely mad that people have such a short-sighted view of the world. Sure you might save a little money today by refusing to lose even a penny, but what is that saved money going to benefit you when you lose far more down the line from totally preventable issues a little investment would have avoided? You can't eat money.

The ugly truth is that it is just another BIG BUSINESS, and just like all of them, it is controlled by power, greed, cut-throat tactics, etc. It's becoming less about the best fighting the best, and becoming more about views, needle-moving, being talented on the mic, and staying relevant at any costs (EX: Colby). Just happy to see one point on the board for the Athletes for a change. A dope dealer is nothing without narcotics or customers, just like the UFC is nothing without the fighters and the fans. The saying "don't bite the hand that feeds you" can be used interchangeably between both The Organization and The Top Tier Combatants.
