Clinching, holding and wrestling is against the rules. In Mexico this is not an issue. Mexican referees are better at enforcing the rules than referees from the USA and Europe. Referees from Japan are also very good at enforcing the rules. This is why Mexican and Japanese fighters don't hold. In Mexico if you hold while you're hurt or exhausted it's acceptable. In Mexico if you use clinching to avoid an inside fight it's an act of cowardice, the crowd will whistle and the referee will warn the fighter who initiated the clinch. The queensberry rules of boxing clearly state that holding and wrestling move is against the rules. Clinching is a form of holding and wrestling.
