Me too! Are you already a fan of his work, or were you just sold by the descriptions like I was?

@@FilmsByColor Not OP - Warner Archive has put out 3 of his produced works on blu ray, of them being Isle of the Dead and the other being a 2 movie set including Bedlam. I haven't seen the 3rd film that WA put out, but these two are very good, and both star Boris Karloff.

Great post- for a title on a quiz for John answering questions about The Criterion Collection how about… The CriteriJohn Collestions? …I’ll see myself out. 🤷♂️😉😂🤪

What a great month of new movies being added to the Criterion Collection. I am so happy for Pandora’s Box being included.

Love this Guess The Criterion segment. None of these titles are for me I don't think but that's ok as I want pretty much all of the September releases.

This was fun. Keep it up! I'm excited for all apart from Gummo to be honest!

Thanks! Yeah I'm not sure how to feel about Gummo yet, but I'm sold on all the others. Great month!

A great and different concept to announcing the Criterion Titles. A lot of fun. I think John should have gotten both THE 7th VICTIM and GUMMO. I don't think anybody would have guessed DEMON POND because it was not on anyone's radar. The other four films were rumored in the collection, some for a while. Glad to see PANDORA back again. Great film. I'm glad to hear that Criterion did not make the same mistakes that Eureka did, Eureka people were complaining about the slightly sepia look, whereas Criterion is boldly B&W film (I could not write all this in the chat, so I had to re-edit my statement to fit the chat balloon). And there was an issue about coins "disappearing" from a hand while being dropped. I liked GUMMO, but I understand why it does appeal not to a good majority of moviegoers, but I think Criterion people will appreciate its rambling quirky premise without understanding it. Hopefully, John will make this a monthly or bi-monthly guessing game: Can Criterion outwit the great John M?

Oh, that's definitely part of my problem - I pay ZERO attention to rumors about what's in the pipeline. 🙃

Some good titles, but I’m still waiting for CC’s 4K releases of King Kong, Fiend Without a Face, Jason and the Argonauts, and Equinox. They’ve all been released on either laserdisc or DVD but not Blu ray. Maybe 2025 will see them get new transfers.

Certainly an eclectic mix of movies. Exciting video. The Seventh Victim having a noir vibe would track considering who did the cinematography on it, Nicholas Musuraca.
@FilmsByColor3 ай бұрын
Oh that's interesting. I'm not up on my Cinematographers, but the movie looks great form the screenshots. What noirs did Musuraca do?

@FilmsByColor lots of classics from RKO. Things like the all around classic "Out Of The Past" (1947), a western noir "Blood On The Moon" (1948), and "The Hitch-Hiker" (1953) directed by Ida Lupino in what would be the first "mainstream" noir directed by a woman. Even did 3 noirs just in 1950, all of which were shot well ("Where Danger Lives", "Born To Be Bad", "Hunt The Man Down").
