@@zalangalambos5434 they didnt sell it, the germans were dopping and the refs were english whoo took revenge on the team, Puskases last goal wasnt offside, you can clearly see it on the footage

As a kid, I remember the fantastic 1966 Hungarian team - Albert , Bene, Farkas et al - which couldn't go further because they did not have a good goalkeeper. Of course, the 1954 team has become legendary , and we should never forget that Hungary played the final game in the 1938 World Cup in France. I sure hope for the good of this sport that Magyar football makes a comeback.

One of the reasons why Hungarian football declined after the 1980s is because its was stuck in a time warp. From 1990 football changed, the pace and tempo of the game increased substantially, so did the levels of fitness required. The pace was set by Dynamo Kiev and later the top Italian sides. Tibor Nyalasi is only half right. The collapse of communism did not affect the level of football in other East European States, in fact they got better. Still It was great to see Hungry in the Euro 2016

Hungary's football decline started since 1972, not since 1986. After 1972 fourth place in european championship and silver medal in olympic games, Hungary failed everytime to classify in the first eight places in European championships and to achieve qualification for the olympic tournament. It happened while the physical play became hegemonous (the Danubian school is a technical school, but for example Czechoslovakian football didn't decline 'cause it had a more physical and strenghtful style of play). I'm not sure about my explication but it's interesting.

From '72 to '86, Hungary did better in WC - it qualified three times in a row after the '74 elimination in qualifying stage and everytime as first of its group (but in '82 qualifying it lost vs England also at home and away) - but the decline happened.

Hungary and Holland are the unluckiest countries not to have won the World Cup. It is a pity Hungary has fallen so behind; I remember the 1966 team which was a very good one though of course not as good as the 1954 side.

One of my childhood's major accomplishments in sports in Denmark was, when our national team (they were amateurs then) beat Hungary 3-2 on our national stadium in 1969 in a world cup qualifier. In those days it was a sensation. Hungary won olympian gold in 1964 and 1968, so..... How the football world has changed since then.

On a l'impression que la Hongrie a subitement,sur un coup de tête, banni le football de sa culture. C'est étrange car, ils arrivaient toujours à sortir des générations de joueurs brillants. Il en est de même pour leurs clubs (ujpest, ferencvaros, honved...). Ce qui donne aussi du regret, c'est que les tchèques prennent le même chemin (la séparation du pays a détruit le football tchécoslovaque).

The realities are 1. we still live in a dream of the "Golden-team" (Puskás-era), every time Hungarian football comes up somebody mentions Puskás and his team. That was a totally different time with totally different expectations and totally different opposition. Football is totally different now. 2. we have more and more foreign players in the league from year to year 3. we have less and less skilled Hungarian young talents from year to year in the league 4. our training system is a piece of shit meanwhile 5. our players get rich by playing shit football -----------> we will never be a champion.

In my opinion Eastern European countries like Hungary were much stronger before the fall of communism. Even Russia/Ukraine who were then the USSR were stronger then. The Soviets in 86 were so exciting. And of course there was the magic Magyars in the 50s and 60s. The great Czechs,Romanians and Yugoslavs. Now only Croatia offer any kind of excitement for me from that part of the world and even they aren't as good as they used to be. Its all down to a lack of hunger and video games. Back in the old Soviet block players had to be amazing to escape poverty and that was a pretty good motivation!

Sadly kinda agree with you. England did very poor last world cup. I should have seen it coming though. They played a friendly against Honduras and could not beat them. I take nothing away from Honduras. They have improved in the last 15 years but England's pedigree should have got them a win of 1-0. This is just bad.
