Oh man, this and 64 were the only HM games me and my sister had growing up, she was obsessed with this game. Only when we were much later in life did we learn that it's considered "too slow" (even for a Harvest Moon game). We agreed that we had a great time playing it and that's really all that matters when playing games growing up. In fairness, once you know about giving gifts and doing villager events, there is more to do than there initially seems.

I never got to play 64, but I've heard it's a gem. They addressed the "slowness" by shortening the chapter length to 1 year in AnWL and the SE, but I feel like the longevity is part of the charm of the original. All those villager events and hybrid crops really flesh out the back half of the game, and it was one of the major reasons I wanted to do the 100% lol

This series is so easy to watch compared to other playthroughs of this game. I adore all of the HM and SOS games but it can be hard to stick to long playthroughs. AND THEN THIS PLAYTHROUGH HAPPENS! Wonderful job with your videos you really put in so much effort and it totally paid off :D

I’ve been playing AnWL too! Honestly 6 years is plenty. I think the hardest part is the crop hybrids, but I’m not trying to do all of those. I’m currently in Year 5 and honestly am skipping through some of the days by sleeping to get to the end!

I used to play this game all the time as a kid. That said, I wasn't "good" at it. I vaguely understood that I could make hybrid crops, and definitely didn't know why my cows would stop making milk after a while lol. All that to say, it's been really awesome to watch you play the game, well, significantly more competently than me lol. Thanks for the videos, it's been a blast. As a cliff note: is it possible to do anything with the goat after it stops producing milk? I remember feeling like I got scammed when it stopped lmao

Thanks for watching! Regarding the goat, in the original version, there is nothing you can do but kill it if you want to free up space in the barn. In AnWL and the SE, they added an option to sell the goat, but that doesn't exist in the original lol

You cannot train your dog at all in the original AWL. That's not until Another Wonderful Life and the Special Edition.

Another fantastic video! I recently got Another Wonderful Life(because as a kid i only had AWL and wanted to play as girl) and it brought back so many memories. Sure i could get the remake(which i am of course) but its sort of nice to play the original on original hardware. Also everytime you say the harvest sprites names i laugh because as a kid I guess i just didn't get their naming convention. Its super cute.

I agree! The remake will be nice, but it won't scratch that same itch as AWL or AnWL. The harvest sprites are silly little creatures with funny names. I swear they wanted to call them Snap, Crackle, and Pop like the Rice Krispy characters but couldnt lol

I have no idea why but the only thing I remembered about this game from my childhood was the calf hutches. Nothing else. None of the characters, or the mechanics... I just remembered the little white calf hutches viscerally of all the things.

To be fair, the calf hutch is hella cute. My first and most prevalent memory of this game is the blue feather cut scene. It's such an iconic piece of the franchise as a whole and the cut scene with the harvest sprites finding it and explaining it is burned into my long-term memory lol

the Fogu website use to be the best place to get more information about the games because it offered the different versions as well as japanese/english events. The GameFAQs webpage still exist as well, not sure if either have the information you are needing about the events though. I remember playing Another Wonderful Life as a kid and Harvest Moon series is just one of my favorite. I wish I had the time to go back and play my GameCube copy.

The only problem with those are that they are hard to define which ones will work in the original edition since I’ve already discovered some cutscenes that were supposedly not available in the OG. Love these videos so much! I played so much harvest moon when I was young and I'm also revisiting them and finding they are just as fun this time around! Did you ever play harvest moon DS or harvest moon cute? I had DS and it was my most played, it has the same town and characters as a wonder life, but has a lot of fun differences.

I did play HM: DS! I didn't get too into it as a kid since I just defaulted to playing FOMT on the GBA and I thought I already had the same town in AWL lol. I know the DS version has a lot more content so maybe I should give it another try!

Eventually, we will have made all the recipes and got all the crop hybrids, and all that's left will be cutscenes, digsite tasks, and collecting items that are timegated for the later chapters, so there will be a good amount of sleeping lol I can't wait for the remake! I'll definitely be doing my own play though off stream, but will be streaming the game with a playthrough where my twitch chat makes almost all the decisions, which will be pretty fun!

I've never gotten all the events in this game but here are a few I do know about because I've personally experienced them but haven't been able to trigger them again (I also haven't played the game in over a decade) When Nina's alive she races with a turtle Daryl swears the weird yeti guy has a zipper on his back and that it's a costume. The bear you get your kid in year 3/4 is alive and walks. Scared the crud out of me as a 10yr old Daryl's house explodes many times from his failed expirments Daryl also yells at your cows for producing co2??? I only got this cutscene once and am still confused by his rambling at my cow. I got the harvest goddess scene 4 different times and while she does have dialogue it doesn't change anything about the spring itself and she doesn't move into it it's heavily implied that it's the mineral town harvest goddess tho! I don't know how I managed it but I got the ruby's spice scene where she gives you her spice and the most easily duplicatable item in the game and what I used as an exploit as a kid to get max money. Murray would often steal milk and fish from the frozen storage this only happens if you store milk and fish in there! Those are all the cutscenes I have gotten. Can't wait for next year's remake of the game.

That Nina cut scene leads me to believe that you're playing AnWL or the Special Edition since I'm fairly certain that was added in those versions. They great cause they flesh out the characters and the vibe of the valley and that's why I really wanted to see every one. Depending on which version you're playing, money-making can be easy or difficult since they balanced the seed prices in AnWL and SE. I'm doing a playthrough of AnWL off-screen for a video I'm working on, and the only efficient money-making method is fishing lol

I'm loving this, my only question, why is it you plant your crops in a pattern? Is it to make it easier amd faster to water/harvest, does it improve them, or do you just like it? I always just pack it out lol

Honestly, there are rumors that placing them in the checkerboard pattern makes them grow faster and won't decrease their grade. Of course, these are all just rumors from the 2004 era of internet lol. I did it because that's how Vesta did it on her farm so I'm just a copycat

There is also another grant cutscene only appear if you meet at him early morning in his house where he give you am alarm clock and as for the spring fairy cutscene sadly the game had to quite alot content it was supposed to be in the game only to be cut. the reason was either don't have alot of development time or the console hardware limitation. Well anyway this game is pretty intetesting among many harvest moon games. Edit : nvm you already got the alarm clock

I've been trying to get a lot of cutscenes that I know are in the special edition and AnWL just in case there also in the original! This game is super unique in the HM franchise and in farming simulators generally. That's why it's my favorite lol

Thanks so much! Every in-game day takes me about 15-20 minutes so each year is about 11-12 hours. Of course, every player plays the game differently, so if you're not caught up in trying to see every cut scene, get every hybrid, etc. you could probably finish a year in 3-4 hours by sleeping a lot and doing only the necessities. Editing this video is an entire process that probably took ~24 hours. Between writing and recording the script, cutting out mistakes, going through all the footage and synchronizing it with the narration, then adding the little stylistic bits, a video like this has a lot of time dumped into it. Screen recording is pretty simple depending on how you're playing the game. If you're using an emulator, using OBS and recording the game source is pretty easy. If you're playing on the actual GC console or a Wii, you'll need a capture card that can be used as a source in OBS. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions!

god, i still can't get over how much better the game cube graphics are for this game. i never actually played it myself, only special edition, but dang. my version looks like blurry garbage compared to this, trying to look at the grass in my field is a literal eye sore xD also i never noticed before... that's supposed to be a picture of Romana, but it looks like a picture of Sebastian???? am i seeing that wrong because its blurry? it totally looks like him. wut

That's one of the reasons I went with the GC version. The graphics still hold up even though they're almost 20 years old. I'm honestly not sure about the picture. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just dialogue and they just put a picture of sebastion there.

Gemsoils make it such that hybrid seeds are able to grow in any condition of soil, I believe. Given that the very fertile field is so large, I don't think there's any practical purpose to them.

It's been a long time since I played this, but I'm pretty sure if you harvest a root vegetable, like a turnip, you don't have to re-till the soil with a hoe before planting in the same spot.

There are a couple ways to get S Rank Tree Seeds. The most cost effective way is to combine a B rank tree seed with an S rank vegetable seed or crop. The only issue with this method is you have to wait until you unlock Tartan in chapter 2. The more expensive, but avaliable as soon as you start the game, is to use 60 things of fertalizer on a tree.
