We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Scarlet Hardcore Nuzlocke with only new Gen 9 Pokemon? Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique Gen 9 Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

I'd like to see a "Doglocke" of this game. There are exactly 6 "dog" Pokemon in this game: Houndour, Fidough, Greavard, Growlithe, Maschiff, and Rockruff. I feel like that would be a challenge worthy of a video. Especially since it's would be filled with "good bois".

Cool run, but in the future, I think SV runs should go until the credit roll, as there is a final chapter once you beat all three routes, and (with the other routes) it only accounts for about 3 more major battles

For offensive purposes: You keep your stab + terastal stab (meaning you can have triple stab damage bonus) For defensive purposes: You receive damage based only on your terastal (e.g. If you change to electric, you'll only receive super effective damage from ground type attacks)

You gain a 0.5x bonus from normal stab, and another 0.5x from terastalizing, so terastalizing to one of your original tyoes is a net 2x bonus, not 3x!

@Spaceboy the titans and star base aren’t side content tho? You literally don’t get credits until you’ve done all 3 paths and done the last battle in area zero. They’re just as much part of the game as the gym story line

@spaceboy2031 I consider any Johto run that doesn't defeat Red incomplete and those are more side content then the 18 badges that Scarlet and Violet offer. The badges you get for Team Star bases and Titans are counted equally to gym badges on my trainer card, which means this game sets the new record for badge numbers. You need them all to see the credits and frankly the Arvin fight and the final normal battle in Area Zero are 2 of the toughest fights in the game. They make the champion look like a joke. People can define a challenge for themselves however they want, but if they put themselves before the public they will face public scrutiny of their decisions. For Silph's part I really enjoy his videos and am disappointed I didn't see his reaction to the hard fights and interesting plot events of the endgame.

@@Dpmt He probably didn't do till the end because 1. It's a generation full of Pokémon he is still getting used to, 2. The games are new and take quite a few time to finish and he already said leveling up was getting harder, 3. He lost quite a few great Pokémons and would need to train again more to fill the gaps after the elite four fight and the possible deaths he could have, 4. You already said the last fights are some of the hardest of the whole game. For him, losing this fight is the same as doing all over again, which would make him lose a shit ton of time and 5. This video is already very long. If he put all the rest of the story, it would be a 1 hour and a half video and although some people like that, many won't watch till the end. And lastly: it's your opinion that the HGSS playthroughs that don't go till Red are not complete, even though it is considered post game as the main story was already finished and major events already ended. Some people don't want to fight Red because their teams might not be in good shape after E4 + Champion and some find that the Red fight might need more luck than skill to win depending on the team, which makes it useless to do as in the end the chance of loosing is way too big. Not to say that depending in their agenda, grinding till Red's level might consume time they would use to make another video. It's his first playthrough of the new games, so I really don't know why you guys are so upset. It's not as if he isn't going to do any more gen 9 runs.

@@Deerthedoe6842 One thing I respect about Silph is he is will to upload the Nuzlocks he fails, generally on the champion at the end of the game. If he just put the final 4 missing boss fights in I doubt the video would be much longer, but first impressions on the other Titans and Team Star bases would have been interesting especially this run when they are fresh. Like I said before people can have whatever rules they want playing on their own, but I know I'm disappointed when I see an HGSS or GSC run that doesn't chalange Red as a viewer. Perhaps because Lance, like Geeta, is kind of a weak champion. I've been watching Silph for years and would probably take a chance on anything he puts out, but it's too bad we won't see his initial impressions of big parts of this story. Just like it is too bad there doesn't appear to be any rumbling about a Sinnoh True Power tournament. Which would also make a nice change of pace.

The difficulty level of this game was refreshing--I think they finally somewhat balanced the permanent EXP share (even though I wish they'd just make it optional again) so that I never felt too over-leveled.Some of the gyms and star bosses are legitimately tricky if you don't have a full team / good type resistance.

I think the level balance in this game was done pretty well though it definitely feels off starting out due to the circular nature of Paldea. After clearing all three stories though, I was back to being underleveled for everything which is honestly a bit refreshing. Think they could've toned up the difficulty just a touch more by adding maybe some pseudo scaling to major fights. Basically, have a minimum level the fight can be so you don't just rush everything in the beginning but if you go over the level of said minimum fight, the fight will scale up to that level to make up for it. Could use a somewhat similar system to wild pokemon and their level up moves to also adjust movesets.

I wish I'd had the challenge that everyone else seems to have had! I spent long periods exploring and finding items so my Pokemon were ridiculously overleveled from mostly the auto-battling alone. I had a fully-evolved starter before the 2nd gym and had no trouble with any of the battles, which might sound like a brag but I wanted to be challenged and I was really disappointed.

35:30 that ultra ball there (or whatever ball your lead Pokémon is in) is a normally invisible trigger for entering/exiting the build. Due to a memory leak issue with the game, once it’s running for long enough these triggers will become visible and various other visual bugs will occur (i.e trainer face not changing AT ALL when eating sandwiches). Fun times!

Boxes being available in the Elite Four makes me think that the level caps should be applied individually, so if you overlevel off one you need to swap your team. Also I’d apply level caps to Team Star, while not worrying as much about caps for Titans, so the final story can be played.

After seeing how Nemona's Meowscarada caught you off guard, I realize that they actually did a good job making it challenging for challenge runners without being too brutal on players willing to take advantage of all of the things that make the game "too easy". As noted by the slight change in the wording of your rules, Set Mode doesn't actually exist in this game, and the Nemona fights especially are balanced around the idea that you're always able to immediately switch to counter whatever she's about to bring in. The only time I actually _lost_ a battle (I wasn't doing a full-fledged challenge run, but I did ban myself from using items in battle since none of the trainers in this game ever do, a change from previous generations where boss battles spammed healing items) was the final Nemona battle, and that's because even the forced Shift Mode can't protect you from not _leading_ the right Pokémon: once I had Meowscarada in front to one-shot her Lycanroc with Flower Trick before it could set up rocks, the battle went from brutal to trivial.

well I don't think Jacq is meant to be the same name as Jack is yup exactly with Nemona using Tera on Pawmi, the Tera boosts its Electric type even more since it matches its original typing 8:55 yes with Katy's Teddiursa, I think normally it's Normal-type but her use of Tera on it means it's pure Bug type but still gets STAB for the original typing and the Tera typing variety so it's a good variety idea to use for some species 18:21 at least you didn't do any damage to Orthworm since its Earth Eater ability actually heals itself when hit by Ground moves 26:03 yes Meowscarade is part Dark BUT it wouldn't matter since Nemona used Tera on it so it went to being a pure Grass type at that point although it would have the Tera boosted STAB for the Grass-type moves and regular STAB for Dark-type moves

26:40 - just to let you know. Flower trick is an evil move. It will ALWAYS crit and it will ALWAYS hit unless you’re using fly or dig etc. Edit: Ahh you mentioned it just after haha

I was genuinely surprised by the ability and Pokémon buffs in this game. Like Hoppip learns attacking moves before level 10? Awesome~ If I hadn't chosen the kibby I would have used a Jumpluff. Or a Bramblin. Or any of the other awesome grass types.

My team for this game ended up being: - Meowscarada - Oinkologne (it was weak but I loved the design bc I love pigs lol) - Pawmot - Dachsbun - Ceruledge - Bellibolt - Tinkaton - Clodsire - Cetitan - Annihilape - Farigiraf - Baxcalibur And then near the end I got to use Kingambit too 😄 I would just swap in between them as needed. seriously it was so much fun!! I can’t wait to do a nuzlocke so I can use more of the Gen 9 Pokémon that I haven’t been able to use yet 😁
