In this video, I race the Woodinville leprechaun leap 5k, attempting to get the race win vs all the boys and men. This is my tune up race for World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. It was fun to hop in a race and get a strong effort in. This is a reminder to do road races near you! It's such a fun environment, and I great way to push yourself :) I can't wait for World in a week!!! #AllieOstrander #5kRace #5kRoadRace #trainwithCOROS @COROSGlobal

This race reminds me of way back in the mid 70s running in a local race at the Jersey shore where the females started first. As us males caught up to the females I made it my goal to try to pass all of them. But there was this one that stuck right with me. It was like she knew my plan. She even looked younger then me, so I couldn't let it happen. Well we pushed each other all the way in to the finish. She came over to me afterwards, to say, "Good race". I replied, "You're gifted, what is your name so when you win at the Olympics I can say I know you". She answered, "My name is Mary Decker". And years later, there she was. I am proud to say I ran with her and she smoked me on the finishing kick.

You're not only an inspiration for young girls, you're an inspiration for older middle-aged women like me. I hope to be able to run a 5k by the end of the year, and have a lot of weight loss and training ahead of me to be able to even start running, much less make it through a 5k. But it's great to see you kicking ass and showing exactly why you're one of the awesome athletes representing the USA. I wish you much success, and may it include many wins, PBs, and many sponsorships on the road ahead. You deserve it.

That was really cool that you were in a local race. Despite gastric duress, you were as smooth, maybe even smoother than your morning coffee; which of course comes from that package featuring an artistic rendition of you! I did notice just one minor difference in race preparation from me, in that, I don't really spend time on braiding my hair. Maybe I should! You really had a lot of dodging to do, and that might have been what kept you from breaking 5 on that last mile. One year I was on track for a PR in the Vegas Marathon, but they started the half marathon with about 50,000 runners an hour before us. After the halfway mark, I had to dodge so many thousands, that I pulled pretty much everything, and had to hobble in. I think that was a very strong and smooth run for how your morning was and the crowd of 10k runners on the course. I give Spencer a thumbs up for not filming all of your pre-race bathroom stop! Boy, I would be in trouble if he was the cameraman for my marathon running, at least in the race that I set my PR.....for most bathroom trips....5, and only used the port-a-potty once! Local course knowledge can really be of help! Allie O.....wishing you an awesome race and amazing experience in the world's. Go Allie!!!

So it made sense that you won with a time of 16- odd minutes. On the topic of your sponsor... I own the competitor's watch and my friend has the Coros equivalent. The Coros has such an amazing battery life that I'm surprised they don't go out and market to us ultra marathon runners more. Battery life is top of my mind when I do races that go 12 hours+. "An average man would beat you easily." - an insecure man who definitely wouldn't beat you
@hnichole

It's honestly embarrassing the amount of insecure men who make just blatantly false statements like that lol. A simple google search shows that the average man - NOT another elite runner - has a mile time of 10 minutes. Allie easily does half of that. Embarrassing how there are some men who will spew anything to try to feel better about their own lack of accomplishments. It's cool seeing many men in this comment section, though, who acknowledge how fast she is!

Perfectly said. Even though men are athletically superior to women, saying that the average man would beat her time is blatantly false. I see this so often on videos of female athletes, men making sure everybody knows that females are incompetent, just to make themselves feel better. In reality, that female is actually doing something constructive with her life.

Your training has been successful because in this race you ran at the pace you have been working on -- 5:10ish. This pace puts you in first place at last year's champs. I know conditions will be different but you are right where you want to be fitness wise. Your stride looks powerful. Side issue: could you tell me what the difference in brewing coffee is when you grind fine, medium, or coarse? I never used beans until I bought "For the Folks" and I am a bit flummoxed. :( Good luck, Allie!!

I do medium grind for pour over because then the infusion is just right. I honestly don't know the science of it, but espresso needs finely ground beans, pour over and drip need medium, and I think cold brew is coarse.

I ran a 10k that started five minutes before the 5k. I ran about 40 minutes. Weaving through the 5k joggers/walkers at the end of that race was something else!
