In this video I react to my old what I eat in a day video which I made in 2021. Looking back, I wanted to discuss some of the issues with WIEIAD videos and why I wouldn't choose to make this content now. I am proud of how far I've come. I have compassion for the me at in this video, and I have compassion for anyone going through something similar. You are not a bad person for the decisions your ED drives you to make, but it is important to fight agains that voice. #AllieOstrander #EDRecovery #MentalHealth #TransparentLabs

What you said about how eating disorders thrive in secrecy really got me. I've never had an eating disorder, but I've dealt with suicidal ideation, which I have found also thrives in isolation. I took photos of myself seeming happy to show everyone I was okay, when in reality, I was far from it. The people who are suffering the most are often suffering in silence. Honestly, I want to thank you for sharing your story! You have helped me realize new things about myself, and I could not be more grateful!

Congratulations on the intellectual honesty and just basic integrity you show in this video. My take is that while you may not have been as authentic in the older video as you would like, you gave sound advice and were not trying to inspire anyone to go down a path of dangerous eating or exercise habits. I do like what I eat in a day videos from credible athletes because they usually contain interesting meal and snack ideas.
@allie_ostrander
@allie_ostrander Ай бұрын
I think that food content can be great because recipe ideas and nutrition advice are helpful, it's just that I do think those need to be coming more from dietitians and chefs, just because of how sensitive of a topic this is. Obviously everyone should be allowed to share, I just find that most people who think about food enough to want to share a WIEIAD often don't have the best relationship with food.

I love the nuance and complexity: it stands out from the KZbin crowd. It is a privilege to be able to review your past bucause you recorded it. I do it a lot from memory (whilst restless at 4am). I think we all lie to ourselves and others as a survival strategy and it's great to get stronger so we can face reality, as you are doing. A very refreshing and fluff free and well edited video ❤️

Hey Allie, As a 49 year old ex-runner, I wanted to tell you that you are an inspiration. Your joy in running, in spite of all the challenges that come with it, helped me remember how much I loved it. I appreciate your videos, especially as a father of two daughters with self-image issues. It takes a ton of courage and stength to be vulnerable and honest like you are. The ordeals you have been through make you wise well beyond your years, which is evident when you talk about your growth midset, your embrace of imperfection, and your recogniton that there is no such thing as "enough". I used to think if I just got that promotion or had a certain amount of money or achieved some feat in the gym it would be enough. It never is. All we have is our maker and each other to sustain us. I saw you at a run in the Seattle area recently and almost introduced myself, but was too star-struck (and didn't want to be a creep). Anyway, I will follow your running career with interest, but know that you have succeeded already far beyond any medal or PR time. Keep being awesome, keep being you.

It helps educate us on how to eat to achieve proper gains. I really enjoy the videos you create showcasing what you eat in a day. It would be great to see you incorporate tips for those who only do short runs, as well as stretches before and after a run, especially for those of us who are new to running. I love running, but I'm new to it, and I want to encourage you not to be too hard on yourself. Even if you don't eat everything you mention, you're still educating those of us who are interested in knowing. The fact that you're still sharing valuable information is what truly matters. You're right that not eating properly can hinder your goals. The important thing is that you're making changes and striving for improvement. You don't have to be perfect; just do your best and take it one day at a time. That's what truly counts. Thank you for being real; there is nothing you should be ashamed of. We are all human, and no one is perfect. No matter how imperfect you may feel, you're perfectly imperfect just the way you are. You are loved by many in your family. Not only do those around you love you, but you also inspire so many people. Don't ever give up and keep pushing through because you're an encouragement for so many of us viewing your content. No matter how perfect or imperfect the editing is. That isn't what brings value to the video. Your experiances and your education and personality is what makes your videos golden.

OMG, every thought that went through my mind as I lived for years with disordered eating. My type 1 diabetes was the perfect excuse for all of my disordered behaviours and helped me hide and justify everything. My life is so much fuller and better now after a wonderful psycholgist who specialized in type 1 clients.

I don’t watch a lot of KZbin, but I must say I’ve never seen anyone review one of their earlier videos. Just shows how much you’ve matured in such a short space of time. Love your work!

I can feel sooo cheesy commenting on KZbin videos but seriously so inspired by your honesty. As a runner and recovering ED I related to all of this. LOVED what you said about how the disorder allows us to believe the rules of food apply to everyone else and not us- yesss. Also idk if you have a relationship with Jesus but feel like you’d crush it as an advocate for him. K love you bye

thank you! I definitely have a pretty good awareness of how inaccurate they likely are, but I still struggle to not compare myself.

This is one of the greatest videos you ever made. I always thougt that all these "what-i-eat-a-day-videos" ( from other youtubers) are not the whole truth (i'm german, I'm sorry for mistakes). I love your videos!!!!!! I watch all!!!!

Just to show how different people can be in eating choices I've only had one cup of coffee in my entire life (75 yrs & counting)...but I do love to run and I can see that in you and your friends. That's my connection. Don't stop...keep going!

@@allie_ostrander I was thinking about this a little bit more and wondered about the factor of my significant age difference and how different generations see and place themselves in an athletic venue. It further occurred to me that there is an excellent (IMO) book titled "Lore of Running" by Tim Noakes. Tim and I share the same birth year (1949) so I can view "Lore of Running" almost like it is a realtime diary of the world I grew up in. If you and your peers haven't already read it I highly recommend it. It has super interesting historical and scientific data in it that I think every athlete could benefit from. Don't flinch, but it's about 900 pages of reading. It took me a full week to read it, but it lit me up so I was totally into it and spent many many hours each day going through it. Pretty much the only thing I drink is plain water. I worked in construction and had to stay hydrated. Only chilled plain water was ever satisfying, especially in the heat of summer days. it just became a regular habit and I haven't seen the down side of it. Best regards.

so many wisdom and gems! I unfollowed some athletes because they're disordered and trying to hide it, and not everybody can tell. But I love that you're bringing light to this, so many truths in this ideo.
