If you accidentally kill or aggro someone with your explosives, you are not allowed to reload a save, you must keep playing through your mistakes.

Optimized flamer fuel made with the Vigilant Recycler perk not only does 25% more damage but also gives your flamethrower a bit of armor piercing. Also Cleansing Flame does less up front damage than the standard flamer in favor of better afterburn.

The thing about the flamethrowers in New Vegas is that they really aren't balanced towards being end-game weapons. Look at the stats of the Flamer and then compare it to some of the guns. It has a base damage of 16 with a burn damage of 2hp for 5 seconds of burn time (totaling 10hp). In terms of Damage Per Second that puts it below low-mid tier Submachine Guns like the 9mm SMG (Base damage of 14, but fires significantly faster than the Flamer) and 10mm SMG (Base damage of 19). It's pretty low, obviously. The Pyromaniac perk provides a pretty substantial +50% boost to this, raising the base damage from 16 to 24 which puts its base damage above automatic guns like the LMG (Base of 21). The Cleansing Flame has a lower base damage of 15 at the expense of having its burn damage scale off the Energy Weapons skill. At 100 EW, you have a burn damage that does 10 damage a second for 6 seconds. Which is, in my opinion, also pretty unimpressive and not really worth using over the default Flamer. Also note that the Cleansing Flame has a lower Critical Hit rate. Going for burn damage with either Flamer is absolutely 100% not worth it. They're not like TF2's flamethrowers where you get 4 damage per game tick for 8 damage per second. The burn damage in NV is pitifully low and may as well be tickling your enemies. 10 damage over 5 seconds and 60 damage over 6 seconds is negligible in a game where basically everything but the weakest enemies have triple digit HP and killing them requires you being in melee range and just DPSing them with the flames (Though I will note that burn damage ignores armor and NV is full of armored enemies). The Heavy Incinerator (Which I don't believe Fish used). This weapon looks FAR better than either Flamer on-paper. It has a base damage of 15 for the projectile, 20 for the projectile explosion and then a more practical burn damage of 8 damage per second for 5 seconds for 40 damage total -- but -- the Heavy Incinerator (along with a few other weapons) is affected by a couple of interesting bugs. First of all, New Vegas has an engine related bug where projectiles that explode do not actually do impact damage outside of VATS. So that 15 projectile damage the Heavy Incinerator has is actually 0 damage. And because of the fact that this is an engine-level bug, it's not fixable by modding. (For the record, this bug is easily demonstrated via using Timed Mini-Nukes with the Fat Man in VATS vs outside of VATS). The second bug to affect the Heavy Incinerator is another curious bug called the Explosives Immunity Glitch which causes whatever entity affected by it to become, well, immune to explosives. (The TL;DR of this bug is that when some creatures respawn, the game sets its entity flag to 'destroyed' which causes them to become immune to explosive damage, but not other types of damage. This is probably also an engine-level bug). So with these two bugs combined, you will occasionally encounter enemies that are immune to all the damage the Heavy Incinerator can do because of the lack of both projectile damage and lack of explosive damage. That in mind, the Heavy Incinerator will still do more DPS than either Flamer with its 20 base damage flame explosions (boosted to 30 with Pyromaniac) with a significantly longer range with addition to the fact the explosives do extra limb damage. So I would personally say that its the best of the four flamethrowers NV has. Fish also neglected to pickup the Vigilant Recycler perk which would have given him the ability to craft Optimized Flamer Fuel, which has a cool 1.3 damage multiplier and -5 DT effect. He would have gotten a lot more mileage out of all of the flamethrowers with it, but I guess he was spread pretty thin on stat distribution as-is. Personally, if I were Fish, I would have done the Pyro Build in a different Fallout game. Fallout 3 would have been the best IMO. Fo3's Flamer shares the same stats as NV's, but benefits from enemies being weaker and the lack of the DT system. Fo3's Heavy Incinerator isn't affected by the same engine bugs as NV's and just has better damage in-general with 35 Impact, 45 explosion and same burn damage. He would have had a much better time even if Fo3's weapon selection for other Pyro weapon equivalents is significantly smaller.

The earliest fire axe you can get is _really hard to get_ but just north of good springs in the cazador infested valley. The little campsite where one of the New Vegas comics took place has a fire axe. The only other guaranteed spawn I can think of is Camp Searchlight in the fire station, which has normal axes and Knock Knock. I love the fireaxes in game. I decided to do a melee weapons build once upon a time, and based on my wiki investigations, knock knock is the highest dps melee weapon in the game. It certainly _felt_ like the highest DPS, because with a melee weapon skill of 100, you can consistently outdamage deathclaws in melee combat. I put _that_ to the test by wiping out that little deathclaw enclave you can find along the colorado river.

The cleansing flame is my favorite weapon as if you do the Laser Disintigration or Plasma Gooification with the perk that makes opponents explode as plasma grenades and you have an exploding flamethrower that will demolish everything in a cascade of explosions and gore.

Two quick notes: First: with 50 repair you can use a box of detergent, two ears of maize and sugar bombs to make 20 units of flamer fuel. This helps a lot with ammo consumption. Second, you don't need the sonic gun to unlock the hazmat suit, there's a code for the forcefield in the Innovative Toxins plant near the stealth suit facility. Look for a building surrounded by green goo, be ready to fight 4-6 trauma suits and bring your anti-rad medicine.

Commenting on the latest one: Can you beat fallout 4 as the engineer from TF2? -You can only use shotguns, pistols, laser weapons (they’re good this time we swear), wrenches, and (with the automaton dlc) you have to make a “turret” (or a robot with some dual miniguns and sentry bot cluster bomb back weapons) You must also turn the castle into a heavily armed fortress. Just as a side note you can just kill the mercs to get the key to the fire station in searchlight that way you don't need any skill checks

I love the mention of Nerbit when you're at Gomorrah. I've been doing the same now, since watching him. The Omertas deserve it. I also played a Flamer/Incinerator only playthrough recently. It sucked. I quickly got a flamer by belining towards the Silver Rush, then completely replaced it with the Incinerator from the Bison Steve hotel. It wasn't too bad a killing enemies, just a little slow. So I had to gamble a lot until I had enough stimpacks to overdose on vitality. And then the fight with the Legate went awfully. I lost so many times that I quit the game and haven't gone back to it.

Funny enough, I've actually wanted to make builds based on the TF2 classes in both New Vegas and 4. I'd like to see ya try the Heavy since a minigun weilding tank with melee is what I've been wanting to try for a character.

Idea for a scout video fallout 4 day 2: For primary weapons you can use the double barrel shotgun and download a mod for a lever action or maybe use old reliable custom it shoots 2 like a shot For secondary’s use the 10mm pistol .38 pistol maybe download mods for a 9mm and .45 pistol and use the alien blaster as the capper For melee any bat and you can use baseball grenades as they kind of are a mix between the wrap assassins balls and the sandman’s balls

Personally, I find it fine to use bugfix mods for 'vanilla' playthroughs. I think plenty of them fix the pyromaniac perk to use energy weapons, not to mention other inconsistencies and outright broken bugs. (like 'in shining armor' straight up not working at all.)
