Unless if you have full diamond any form of damage kills you. And even then you can only survive a very small handful of damage types.

In full diamond you can survive a zombie hitting you. And some other stuff with full protection IV I believe.

Full diamond can make you survive small amounts of damage sometimes negating it. Even unenchanted.
