For context, pikasprey arguably created the solo run format, Jrose codified the rules and helped popularize the format along with MDB, who is more of a general lets player and story teller. Scott’s Thoughts is probably the biggest channel of the second generation, people inspired by MDB and Jrose, and has developed a lot of technology to make solo running better- graphical design overlays, routing software, even a new emulator with snowy. There are several smaller channels who are probably better runners, like Gym Leader Matt, Ike the Killer etc, but Scott’s definitely done the most for community development and sheer quality of content.

I am a little sad that this game does not have a fossil that is taken on the way. Because it means that for this video, it makes it hard to ask you to take the fossil opposite the one you say you took. Just to see who notices. Yes, I know he took the Dome fossil on a fossils only run when he started with Omanyte. But that is not what I mean. I mean I want to hear "I took the Root fossil" while seeing the Claw fossil being taken. Or hearing "I took the Helix fossil" while seeing the Dome fossil being taken. Mini Pro Tip: up until only recently, Ghost & Fighting has perfect coverage 😊 So if you can ever have Shadow Ball + Focus Blast (or Shadow Claw and Brick Break) on a playthrough of an older game definitely do it. (Hisuian Zoroark is immune to both). If you can't have Ghost, Dark works well since they are super effective against the same types (a couple of Fighting types will resist this alternative combo such as Toxicroak). Very fun fun 😊

Mr. Mime learns Thunderbolt via TM, it would make this run significantly easier for you. As far as not being able to reuse TMs, use Focus Miss(I mean Focus Blast lol) as your move that you switch others out with. If I'm not mistaken you can buy multiple at the Veilstone Department store. Also, I know you've heard it nonstop since this vid came out buuuuuut bro purugly is normal lol. Can't wait to watch the Nidoran run!

Because you asked on the way to the Elite 4, the only type combination that doesn't take at least Neutral damage from the combination of Fighting and Ghost would be a Normal/Ghost type, and the only ones in the series are Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark, so you'll never run into that during a challenge run.

I really dont understand why you didn't replace Return midway through, you were able to get the coin case way earlier. A Thunderbolt with the higher special stat surely would be more useful in most situations than a normal move that you can't use properly with your stats.

Shadow Ball is a ghost type move, not dark. Super effective against dark and ghost. Covers two weaknesses to psychic types. It’s one of my must have moves on any psychic type Pokémon.

Speaking of reading moves (23:50), although not exactly a 1:1 comparison, I'm doing a Black 2 Slakoth (evolution) run and there's so many opponent's that use your ability to their advantage by using dig so you just can't hit them. Thank goodness Slaking is so tanky and has Slack Off. Also I'd love do see you do a Slakoth/Norman run at some point.

I have an idea for a fun challenge, One that means you could even use Drowzee. Can you beat Pokemon Black (Or any game from gen's 5 ,6 or 7) with only the move Assist? Purrloin learns Assist at level 6 so it'd be the starter, Then if you get a male Purrloin you can breed it with other's to get more Pokemon. I think this would be a great wacky challenge since the more Pokemon on your team the more random the move is. For any that don't know Assist uses a random move known by any of the user's party Pokémon, With some exceptions. So even Pokemon that can't use Assist would still be useful if they have good moves that Assist can use. Drowzee is in the Human-Like Egg Group so If you want one with Assist you'd need a Spinda since they're in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so can breed with Purrloin and Drowzee. You could also use a Chimchar as a starter if you give it Assist as an Egg Move, They're also in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so a male one can breed the move into any Pokemon with Assist.

I knew you wouldn't reach close the Level 100 with this run. M.Mime is afterall a solo pokémon initially. So I'm not surprise even if it supposed to be used as a support kind. And when you where at the Elite 4 league I was thinking wouldn't need much than 10 more levels at that moment. Seems I was close 12 levels to ending the challenge. And By the way 16:55 Nice. Pokémon Challenge suggestion: You are free to go with the game of your choice, but the challenges is using only middle evolution stage pokémon. (For Exemple: If you pick Bulbasaur as your starter, you can only battle with Ivysaur.) You are not allowed to use pokémon who's has no evolution or only 1, it must be a pokémon with a 2 stage linear Evolution. So pokémon like Eevee or Tyrogue are not allowed, but pokémon like Oddish, Poliwag or Ralts are allowed. Try number: 13

“Does anything resist Psychic, Dark, and Fighting?” Nope! To resist 3 types, at least one type of the pokemon must cover 2 of the opponents’. So our candidates here are Ghost, Dark, Psychic, Fairy (post gen 6), and Steel (pre gen 6) Nothing is immune to Dark, so that means Ghost and Psychic are out since any pokemon with those is at best neutral to dark. Dark is weak to fighting, so even though it resists dark + is immune to psy, any dark dual type is at best neutral to fighting except dark/ghost which is neutral to Dark. Steel has the same issue as Dark, down to steel/ghost being neutral to Dark (pre gen 6) Post-gen 6, Fairy does resist dark + fighting, but everything that resists psychic removes one of the previous resistances. Fairy/Psy is neutral to dark while Fairy/Steel is neutral to fighting. No abilities besides Wonder Guard can help here (and Shedinja is weak to Dark), so no pokemon can resist all 3 of those types!

An interesting idea but for the fact that Frustration will get weaker over time as his Pokemon's Friendship increases. After a certain point, it'd just turn into a Struggle-only run simply because Frustration can't deal damage any longer.

A tip at the end of the run leftovers was statistically better than shell bell. Only Pokémon on Cynthia’s team that had a higher hp than you was Garchomp. The 1/8 healing from leftovers would be better than the 1/8 damage healed from shell bell. Especially due to leftovers activating without damage on the opponent and the fact you could not 1 shot some Pokémon meaning more missed healing. Made a second comment because comments are good for the KZbin algorithm ;)

Leftovers only heals 1/16, and is in the part of Victory Road that is locked until the post game. Though I am surprised he never got Thunderbolt. Would have saved him so much in that second Cyrus fight.
