Well, I've changed oil in ev'ry major brand of truck and car. Main thing is... You get some ramps. Do it in the morning. And, while it's draining, find summin else to do. I like working on my own stuff. Garages and shops are a rip off. And, they damage your vehicle by schemes and scams. I know I did it right, but you don't know if they did...

I’m not a mechanic but I enjoy watching you working on motors, you make it look so easy.
@giddybots
@giddybots Жыл бұрын
My dad was an outboard mechanic, worked out of the garage or did service calls right to peoples docks. At home he had two drums for running motors. One was a 20 or 30 gallon plastic drum with the top cut off. He had a big wheeled dolly and put a board across the bottom to rest the drum on, so you could move it out of the way without draining the drum. For larger outboards he had a plastic oil drum he cut in half. He swore by running them in barrels over muffs because you could gauge how well the water pump was working. With the muffs the water pressure is often enough to make water flow. It's been 8 years since we lost him and I love hearing all these noises again. We constantly had outboards laying around and people dropping off or picking up their boats and motors. It was all completely word of mouth, he didn't even have business cards, yet we had hundreds if not thousands of repairs come through every summer. He was an absolute wizard with motors. This makes me want to fix old outboards for fun now.

nice motors eric! I have a nice nissan mid 90's 5 hp. 2 stroke short shaft im going to be putting a new waterpump in so i can use it as a kicker this summer on Lake Michigan. My older brother gave me a Evinrude 40hp. VRO 2 stroke. And i took off the lower unit today. Much different than my 1995 Johnson 30hp 2 stroke where the shift shaft disconnects. I had to take off the starter motor to access the bolt underneath the engine block as opposed to the Johnson that you disconnect when you take off the screens on the lower unit.
