I just found your website and cannot than you enough for all your efforts in addressing old analog M track layout design and maintenance issues. I have found that in researching older vintage Marklin track design or loco maintenance most website offerings are understandably in German. Finding your site is very informative and helps beyond measure. I recently retired and finally now have the time to design and build my dream M track layout utilizing my vintage 50s/60s Marklin/HAG collection. Well done Gunner

Great help, thanks. I got one with altered whires. Compare to runtime 6:46. Positions 1, 2, 9, 10 were not on the bus and 8 removed alltogether. My guess: last owner wanted to access locos and current from another angle ... try that with the newer models😂

For maintenance of the turntable bridge without dismounting all the tracks arround the turntable, I have drilled a hole of about 8 cm diameter in the base plate of the layout; right at the center of the turntable. So I can remove (and mount) the snap ring of the bridge without moving the plate of the turntable. But this needs to be done by crawling under the layout. Hope I could explain it understandingly.
@The3rdRail

All clear. Sure, a lot of people do that, and the same for turnouts or other accessories that might need access when installed permanently.

Bij het terugplaatsen van de brug, met de hand handel de pin die het draaien stopt even terugtrekken. Anders komt deze op de rand aan. In de video zag je dat ook
@KPS-en8fz

@@nicomeininger1791 The bridge is fixed with a snap ring under(!) the turntable-plate which has to be removed for lifting (dismounting) the bridge. Of course the stop-pins have to be pulled back with the hand lever too. For easier maintenance of a stationery mounted turntable it could be tested if the bridge also works correctly without the mounted snap-ring.

Very informative. Wish I’d found ur video about two years ago. Bought what looked like a brand new turntable only to find it would only operate in one direction. Lack of available spares and information - led me to strip the motor and test each circuit. I found that even though all solder connections were factory perfect - one of the field windings was open circuit. I didn’t have a spare stator so unwound the winding until I found a break in the winding - which was strange because it looked like it came from the factory with this default. A quick join, small piece of heatshrink - reassembly,,, and it’s as good as new. One new tip. I use Massoth smoke and cleaning fluid to clean sticky and awkward gears.and motors. It penetrates and leaves no residue. It also of course works beautifully in the smoke generators. Maybe a good topic to expand on in future videos as I certainly could find no information on these, their maintenance and the little tube that slides down the heater element I’m actually a G scale modeller but have recently started collecting 1950 - 1980 vintage Marklin.

@@The3rdRail always something to learn. You explain technical processes clearly and with personal knowledge. Always enjoy ur videos. I do have a question. I am running a small layout with 3 automated trains running simultaneously. The layout runs very well with the correct selection of locos and rolling stock. One problem I have is when I use passenger cars with lighting skates - they trigger the contact tracks and so I’m limited to using non lit cars when running the layout. I’m wondering if I swap out the mechanical contact track with the electrical contact tracks if this would work better in the application.
@The3rdRail
@The3rdRail 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeleppan8635 Typical problem :) You might make it worse if you use contact instead of switching tracks depending on the configuration of your layout. The cause of the problem is a combination of block length, different trains lengths and travel speed. Have a look at the "The next layout" series, episode "Phase 4: block system automation - part 1". I fix a similar problem in the last third of the episode.

Very useful, thanks a lot. Mine has a problem: the locking pin at times remains blocked in one or the other of the locking holes , thus preventing rotation of the bridge, while the motor , electro activator and everytthing else looks OK - Any tip to help me fix it ?
@The3rdRail
@The3rdRail 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Philippe, this is a standard operational issue. This happens when the bridge has moved a bit too far within a position, for example, when one of the directional buttons is pressed and released too quickly, the bridge moves a tiny bit, the pin retracts and re engages in the same hole and everything stops as designed. The next time you activate the bridge, the pin will get pressed against a side of the hole and will not be able to retract due to the pressure. The solution is to give a gentle quick press of the directional button in the opposite direction, without pressing the button completely down, but just enough to activate the motor, this will move the bridge back by a couple of millimetres and free the pin. If you then try the original direction again, pressing the button on the controller fully down (or a bit longer), things should work again. The other option is use the manual release lever on the side bridge house, but that will apply some force on the mechanism in this case, which I personally prefer to avoid.

I really use your videos a lot! I repaired my turntable using this video and found a broken wire also! My turntable has been sitting a year while I rebuilt my layout, but sometimes no longer changes directions. If I swap the grey plugs around, it runs great in the other direction but sometimes will not reverse direction. Can it be the controller??
@The3rdRail
@The3rdRail 2 жыл бұрын
The controller is practically undestructible so unlikely. I'd check the power first, this accessory is quite power hungry, so if you share it with other stuff on the layout, the turntable might not get enough power. try and run it with nothing else connected to the transformer first. There is also a scenario where the bridge pins are getting pressed too hard against the side of their locating pin which blocks the bridge, there you need to press the reverse direction to free them
