I did it again. I bought junk luxury on a budget with hopes of repairing it and adding it to my collection. Can I fix the broken zipper on this damier ebene Louis Vuitton Zippy? It's an $865 wallet I bought for just $31 on Whatnot.

I have an elleme bag. Not as fancy as lv but the strap lobster claw end keeps falling off due to one of the tiny holes being too large. The replacement strap is too expensive for me to buy. It's also missing its smaller handle. All the hardware is branded. I don't think it can be repaired.i think I will have to buy cheaper straps and handles.

This is truly saving stuff from the landfill unlike other resellers who claim they are saving perfectly wearable clothes like Patagonia, Nike etc from otherwise going to the landfill. That's usually not the stuff going to the landfill. It's usually the cheap low end fast fashion, low quality fabric, low dollar department store brands ,worn out rags, and items like this that need more resellers like Rachel who isn't just leaving scraps. KZbin has other sellers who repurpose unwanted rags into fashionable items. I have a great amount of respect for these types of sellers who aren't in it only for themselves.

Even if I could afford a luxury bag or wallet, I would never purchase one. The whole idea of having a bag made with the same materials as some other high quality items, but that sell for outrageous amounts just because of the brand doesn't compute in terms of practicality, principle or simple ethics. Bravo you for refurbishing something you can sell for a hefty profit!

You did a great job. I didn’t know about the markers. I liked how you added the tab to the zipper. That’s the only way I know to repair a zipper. I was told the canvas shrinks more than the leather interior. This exacerbates the cracking. 😊

I always clean the vintage zippers with a brass cleaner. Cleans and makes brass look new!

Looks great. And LV did charge me 395 for a zipper replacement. And leather zipper pull replacement. Wish i would have seen this video back this summer. Mine was a repair on a vintage monogram speedy 35. Took 6 weeks to get the purse back too lol

LOVE this video! I have a 2006 pristine Murakami Speedy with a flap closure that doesn't close...will look into that! It's sad that LV hardware is no longer solid brass like it was 20 years ago. 0000 Steel Wool would do the polishing job well too! That's what Steve from Bedo's Leather uses. He repairs Hermes, LV, Gucci, Chanel...omg, from the grave! Some of the worst conditions I've ever seen. He's also a master cobbler and resurrects shoes.

I LOVED both this video and the Gucci handbag repair one. I'm going to order the pens and the rescue conditioner you used for 2 vintage gucci handbags I got for $25.00. They both are in pretty good shape, but I just want to spruce them up a little. This is not a leather situation, but I purchsed an auth Chanel Large Gem Necklace that is missing one of it's glass gems. So I've been trying to figure out what I can do to replace it and be able to wear. Have you ever done something like this???

My guess is its expensive to repair because they replace the entire zipper which is harder than putting one in a new one. Then they probably replace the edging and trim the cosides of the wallet where there is damage.. etc etc etc. They want their products to look like new when leaving the store. Who knows...

Because they were going to replace the whole piece of leather that they were going to have to re-so the zipper onto and replace a zipper so they were going to charge you like half price for the wallet to be repaired.

To clean the zipper just use wax paper! Rub it over the zipper a few times. Slide the wax paper over each side of the zipper and it will flow smoothly after.

This edge kote was a bit lighter than I needed so I stained it with the stain marker. It worked! The pens are "real leather" brand. I linked the hobby lobby listing in my description. I found them in store for like $13.

LV says not to store you items in the dust bag then the box, the dust bag is fine. Needs air circulation.

Few things to be corrected (IMO): 1. They did not quote 500 for that one zipper but it’s for two zippers so technically you can opt to just fix the outside zipper. Even if they don’t allow, it’s work and material cost for two zippers 2. If you paid 900 dollars on a wallet you wouldn’t experiment by cutting through the zipper like that. It’s different when it’s only 31 bucks 3. Overall it’s a fun video but LV products are pretty good so let the expert fix it so you can use it for years to come

You can you 'Rub and Buff' on the zipper to coat it with gold.

@RachelStrickland I've seen it used on furniture nobs. I believe you can shine it up. You'd have to double-check. Once drued/cured, it'll never rub off on your fingers, is what I've been told.

If it's vintage the zipper is most like made of brass you can remove any oxidization with a metal cleaner or brasso with a polish drill bit then just apply a little olive oil with a q-tip. No more stiffness nice and smooth
