@@thedave7760 No not Angus Cattle, they tend to have this mob mentality that at first was curiosity but then was turned into anxiety like fear having to chase away the intruder due to said fear. @@thedave7760 Angus Are what 85--90 precent of people in South Dakota have, then next is Red Polled also a bit temperamental but more calm, and then Highland is becoming more popular due to how they can ranch these hard parts of land, have about 5 per the heard, then for the beef that they can sell as lean/extra lean easier due to how the coat keeps them warm. The hair from the hides has also been used in some insulation for clothing the way different wool can be too. I then know due to breading the Dairy cattle have a better temperment and had to due to having to be around humans. Same can be said of former dual purpose that are mainly for beef now like the standard Shorthorn another one taking off in South Dakota as part of the other 15--20 percent for beef due to how it has a better temperament then an Angus but not quite that of a dairy only cattle. Most temperamental are the Bison people raise due to how they are still 85% wild but bonus they are almost self reliant.

The worst thing about Ed falling over the barbed wire fence in the last episode is that the camera was already setup in the direction he was going - he'd already climbed over put the camera in place and clambered over the fence again in order to get that shot.
@josephfredbill
@josephfredbill Жыл бұрын
The same applies to several shots - eg entering the tunnel. I have asked how he does this. With the tunnel example he could have set up the camera first then gone back to collect it. However he does it he must do each of these kinds of shot twice at least. I have asked in another comment how he does it - it looks believable and natural.

@@tlpineapple1 I agree, It seemed to me the other person was saying cows are actively attacking people like they are doing it intentionally or something. Can't wait to see how the rest of the adventure goes. Also, if you're going to be in more areas with sketchy water, look at getting a Sawyer water filter or a lifestraw (those are US brands, but I think they sell internationally) I have a Sawyer and it does a great job at making sure water is safe to drink or cook with. 18:56 I had a similar experience when I was about 7 - growing up in the countryside and exploring public footpaths. Shouting sometimes works, but mostly with sheep and horses - you learn the hard way that cows see that as threatening behaviour so they all gang up - luckily I found refuge at an old oak tree that had a small fence around it to stop the cows damaging it - 2 hours I sat in that "pen" surrounded by about 70 angry cows until the sound of a quad bike in the distance attracted them towards the other side of the field... And people wonder why I'm wary around cows, best bet is just to try and stay chill and ignore them or try acting as chill as the farmers do in the milking parlours.

You could turn this thing into a whole ecological exercise, trying to do it on rivers starting in different environments and traveling through different ecosystems. The River Severn, where you're trying to stay in the channel as you slop through a swamp. Or the Clyde, starting up at the source of the Daer Water and coming down the hills and into Glasgow. Or, even better, the St. Johns River in Florida, where you can enjoy a nice, lazy ride upstream from its source in a swamp. The alligators, snakes and bears actually aren't too big a deal, but a group of drunk, methed-out Florida Men in a speedboat is not something to be trifled with.

The fact that you're carrying a 26kg backpack throughout such an exhausting trip is insane. You could potentially slim down by leaving your cooking pan etc at home or asking a friend to meet you at certain checkpoints so that you don't have to carry the meals and water. Climbing through narrow spaces should be much easier this way. Also, great watch. Thanks for filming :)

I was going to say the same thing. I think this herd was nothing to be afraid of, but that doesn't stop them being scary! I have a mental image of a friend of mine being chased by a cow across a field in Scotland because he chose to run as it approached rather than turn around and shoo it away. It was hilarious! We kept shouting at him to just stop and turn around, but he was on a mission to break the 4 minute mile. The beast got bored eventually and my mate ended up right the other side of the field.

People might think it’s funny to be scared of cows, but when you have a bag half your body weight stopping you from moving quickly, and a whole herd of cows that weigh as much as small cows, even if they get curious they can easily severely injure or kill you… that was pretty scary. With that bag it would be very easy to lose your footing and get trampled by spooked cows. No thank you. I’ve had an excited Rottweiler accidentally knock me over by wagging his butt too fast, i couldn’t imagine a cow bumping into you, much less 50 of them. You get caught between a few and… squish. Big animals are no joke…

Not sure if it’s just me, but every now and then I think I’m watching river monsters, your voice and mannerisms are so similar to Jeremy Wade at times! Really loving this series though!!

I was praying he brought extra socks in a dry bag! I hiked through death valley once and extra socks were priority 1 for me and really paid off in the driest place on earth. My deepest sympathies

Shame we didn't get to see you crawling through the tunnel near Haselbury Mill. Nice episode nonetheless - your balance of humility and determination is very endearing :)

I would not have drunk that water. Boiling will kill bacteria and parasites and things, but it won't remove chemicals. I know you were fairly close to the source, but the river had been going through farmland so there could have been nasty things running off the fields.
