The door was not latched fully from the start as you can see the gap at the start of the video. Good choice on the go around, if it feels wrong it normally is and a go around just mean a few more mins flying (Great). Just add double check door to your check list.
@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs4 жыл бұрын
You are right actually. I should have included that in the video. I did watch my self check the latch but it clearly wasn’t right when you look back.

@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs I think it is one of the drawback of the PA28 as the door is so far away from the pilot. Most of the aircraft I have flown have been single seat, tandem or a door on each side.

Have had this happen a couple of times. Both when I was a passenger and probably should’ve been my responsibility to shut it. 🤓😂😂😂. Add it into your checklist and follow it meticulously. Just a thought....Are you possibly leaving it a bit late to get your flaps down so that your speed is settled earlier?
@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs4 жыл бұрын
It’s on my check list, but when I checked it it felt ok, but I should have given it more of a whack! I put the third stage in after I had cleared the factories. Fair point though thanks for commenting.

Private Pilot Vlogs Some of them do get a bit loose and pop open. It’s not really a problem as the airflow keeps them shut. Will just cause extra drag and be rather breezy inside. Only really a problem if it rains like it did for us at 5000ft above Rotterdam! I was like, “why am i getting wet?!”🤓👍👍👍 As for the flaps, there is no one size fits all setting. You have to judge it as it on the approach and pick the best setting for the situation. Like picking the right gear in your car for the job. For example, if you have a stinking headwind, you can put them in late otherwise you’re dragging the barn doors in forever. If you’re high, get them out earlier and reduce power, hold the attitude level for a second or three to get the speed on point and then it should drop nicely. As it gets back on the correct glide slope, add a bit of power to catch it if needed. 🤓👍

I know what you mean. One of the runways where I fly is a shorter one and I do tend to avoid it. I prefer to do a cross wind landing on the longer runway. I keep telling myself I need to force myself to practice on the shorter runway. It's very importanti n case you ever have to make an emergency landing or shortfield landing.

I stopped flying out of Wellesbourne 20 years ago, so your vids bring back some good memories; not a lot has changed ! Yep, my C152 door popped once or twice. I remember 23 for a) the weird turbulence off the buildings, b) landing into sun with a diffraction grating windscreen - zero vis, and c) saving my bacon after three go-arounds on 18 in a squally storm. Btw, do they still flour-bomb at Wellesbourne ? - got my trophy somewhere.
@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for commenting. We have been evicted from Wellesbourne now, moved to Enstone. I did love Wellesbourne though. Good to know I’m not the only one with the door. Yes 23 has a bit of turbulence. I didn’t experience landing into the sun though thankfully!!! I don’t think they do, but that sounds fun! Are you still flying?
@communicatescience4 жыл бұрын
@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs Oh yes, I remember the situation now re your eviction. In 2000, I was living local and flying out of SWFS at Wellesbourne, but after a new job and move to London my flying petered out after a year or so. Flour bombing was fun. Hanging out the passenger window, dropping bags onto a Rover 400 from I think 200ft (can't remember exactly what the dispensation was), preferably without losing your headset. Flight simulation only these days, but I never say never again, so who knows.

You can still latch the door on a PA28 in flight if you have a passenger. P1 reaches across and pulls the grab handle at the top of the door towards them and the passenger secures the latch. I don't think it's possible for the passenger to do it unassisted once you're airborne as (s)he can't get the leverage required. It's an easy mistake to make particularly if you have a passenger who is also a pilot because you kind of assume they will have latched it properly and you tick off the hatches and harnesses check in your head!
@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs4 жыл бұрын
