Another idea is to hang a support from the ceiling (no need to drill into the cabinets) = replace the stands with wires/ropes connected to a "plate"/support, the speaker standing on the said plate. I do see this as a "niche solution". The hassle of hanging the speakers from the ceiling should be worth the effort. The question was general though and the Dynaudio professional answer - Don't hang the speakers from the ceiling - is the best answer to the question.

Perhaps it would be better to hang the floor of the room from the ceiling and then mount the speakers on the new floor 😂

Thx. for your support. But I've seen in big Discotheks those loudspeakers was hanging around. Maybe just an advance for space reduction? In don't know. Finally I'm a Swiss Guy and I've been using Dynaudio for more than 20Y. I'm a big Fan of Dynaudio.

You could have your speakers upside down, so you don't have to drill a hole in the top. You could also cross the cables, instead of having them all straight down (not that I'm going to hang my speakers).

You have drilled holes in Special 40's 😭

Sensitive viewers should not watch 03:41, it might make a hole in your heart as well. 😱

What about slightly elevating the sub (wall mount)?

Doesn't the official ceiling mounts for BM and LYD series involve drilling the cabinets? I'm looking for the best way to mount the height speakers for Atmos and I have original BM-5A's.

Hi, that video was kinda helpful but I'm still a little confused by the term "decoupling". Because no matter where you hang your speaker, even with a proper mount, it'll be attached to either a wall or the ceiling? It's not freely floating in space obvisouly, so what does he mean by "decoupling"? Also, I have old speakers (like, 30+ y/o) that I want to hang from my ceiling, but I'm trying to find out what's the best way to go about it. Can I drill holes in them, cause there's no mounting points. Will it affect only the resale value or putting holes in the wooden frame of my speaker will affect it's sound? Cause I really don't care about their resale value.

Actually, it's pretty straight forward.. At the edge of the speaker, drill a pilot hole, attach a screw eye, and you're good to go! My Axiom M-80's (57lbs each!) have been "Flying" since 2003, without any issues.. I used screw eyes with 1 1/2 inches of thread for the speakers, and screw eyes with 2 inches of thread for the ceiling.. I used swag lamp chain, with each end bent out to form a hook, to attach speaker to ceiling.. I started doing this back in the early 70's, with a pair of Sansui's.. I was running a home 4 track studio, doing demo's for upcoming garage bands.. The hardest part? Getting them aimed at that sweet spot.. 👍 PS: You can also attach a 3rd wire or small chain, from the backside of the speaker, near the bottom, to the wall behind.. This will help in aiming the vertical axis.. By attaching 2 wires at the bottom of the speaker, 1 on each corner, you can tweak the horizontal aim as well.. Now, it is my belief, that by pulling the bottom of the speaker back at the bottom, and attaching it to a wall, you are cancelling the drivers ability to cause the cabinet to move in an adverse direction..

Is there a critical mass vs output energy that could make it work? Say, adding 20 more kg to a spec40?

You don't need four cables.. Two will do the job.. Just add one cable from the bottom back of the speaker to the wall behind.. As you angle the bottom back to assist in vertical aiming, you are also securing the speaker cabinet from the adverse effects (the push pull) of the drivers.. My 57lb Axiom M-80's, pulled back just a couple of inches, are rock solid.. Just sayin...
