The phrase "I'll give it a whirl" is defined in the Cambridge as "to attempt to do something, often for the first time:". I used to use it when I was a kid back in the 70s/80s. It's funny to hear Emil say it as he isn't a native speaker of English.

10:49 this is one of the things about Emil that really inspires me. In my case I could probably benefit from being 10-15kg lighter than I am. But having been thin, weak and fatigued in earlier periods of my life, and currently having several disabilities and pretty challenging personal circumstances, a calorie deficit isn't a big priority right now. I'd rather be stronger and heavier and adequately fuelled. I'm never going to be a pro climber, so for me the focus is on looking after myself well enough to enjoy my climbing ss much as I can. I'm physically stronger, with better flexibility, coordination and balance (still working on endurance... 😅) at the age of nearly 45 than at any other point in my life. If I'm able to get a bit leaner in the long run, cool. If not, as long as I can keep climbing, I'm good. 👍 Great video, guys! Really love the camaraderie between you too. 🙌 Jonathan, your content always makes me smile. ☺️

Love emils approach to weight management. As a taller climber (6‘2) i used to try to aim to weigh as little as adam ondra, and i would literally feel sick, constantly be cold and shivering and generally feel unwell at 73kg, looking malnourished af. Now i just sit at a much healthier 82kg, i get injured less, my joints are healthier and i recover better. Its definitely the better choice in the long term, even if i would be stronger if i weighed a few kg less at the moment.

I think the way you fall is talking a lot about your coordination. You have to be very good at coordination to fall in an uncertain position while you are moving to the next hold. Most people will never make the move with uncertainty without preparation for this, but you do. That means you are always a step ahead! So it's great to have the ability to move freely while you are in the position; there you have never been before. The second thing is the commitment. When you are not very tall, you always have to commit to every dyno move. This helps you explore the bigger field of the position where you feel comfortable. Some people (Josh 😘, for example) will probably never find a boulder that forces him to explore this type of position. I think this will make a huge impact on your climbing style and push your climbing boundaries.

11:34 Losing weight is absolutely the number 1 thing you have to consider if you want to improve as a climber. We're not talking about V15 climbers here, obviously, but the average joe would definitely benefit from losing weight. After all, most people have quite some fat mass to burn off without any downsides.
