Great show again, thanks guys. In relation to the last question, ‘I too have had some problems with blown shock after about 120 hours riding, my Stumpy came stock with a DHX2 coil is leaking oil like crazy. It’s a rather expensive (Troy Lee Designs Limited Edition) frame so it very disappointing. No help at all from Fox or Specialized despite the bike shop trying to find out how to get a replacement. Anyway, touching on the first question in the video, ‘I purchased a very reasonably priced Marzocchi Bomber Air shock and I am loving it! Great shock for the price

When people are asking about installing a longer fork, the real question then becomes what is the diffrence between axle to crown lenghth of the two forks. When I changed the stupid 130mm Rockshox that came with the bike with a 160mm Manitou, the latter had only a 7mm longer axle to crown length. If you then factor in the sag difference between the 2, the seated geometry remained exactly the same. So yeah.. as always the quick and correct answer is "It depends" 😁
@Hakuna_Frittata6 ай бұрын
I just ran into the same swapping a 120mm Suntour to 140mm Fox. I was sweating it a bit, then realized the axle to crown is nearly identical.

I used to time all the downhill in state. One race in the late 90s early 2000s, we had a few guys from Japan show up. They all had GT hard tails. One had a Zaskar with a dual crown boxer. The finish had me thirty meters before a 90 degree turn, I could hear the bikes rattling before they hit the turn. I heard the sound of someone running, I looked to the turn and saw the zaskar guy running, frame in one hand, fork and head tube in the other hand.

#askgmbntech I have a DT Swiss exm dual position fork (a trend that came and went, though with flip chips nowadays I'm wondering if position adjustments are coming back? But anyway). It's time for a service again, and it used to be bike shops here didn't do in-house for DT Swiss and sent them in to Biel (DT Swiss head quarters), but now DT Swiss said they don't service forks that old anymore (15 years iirc). Is that already the end of the fork? It seems younger than what people show on the bike vault.

My drive train seems to squeak, but only when I’m my lowest few gears. Would you guys know why? Also my canyon lux chain guide keeps dropping into the chain, even tho I’ve fully tightened it. It also starts to actually rotate when I tighten enough, so I can’t make it too tight. #ASKGMBNTECH

#askgmbntech Really good and accurate explanation from Anna on the warranty situation and responsibilities. I have a question re costs charged during a warranty claim. My LBS charged me for labour during a warranty claim because he claimed that labour charges are not included in the “bike industry” for warranty claims. I found that really odd.

I did overfork my first bike back when I was a kid. It was a xc bike and I got into dirt jump at 12, and slowly start modifying it into a (at the end) very nice bike for a kid. It started with an 70mm Sr Suntour which I replaced with a Marzocchi Dirt Jam. And yes, I snapped the frame near the head. Rewelded it, and worked even better. Now I have a Banshee Scratch with a Marzochhi 888 and 24", and I love it!

Overfork: My Cannondale comes in two variants, with 100mm and 120mm forks. I changed mine to a 160mm with a 51mm offset. For whatever reason my bike came with the wrong spec fork, 46mm offset instead of 51mm. I run it with around 25% sag, and I have no negatives to report so far. It handles better and still climbes pretty good. I did put alot of thought into it, pros and cons, but I am happy with the outcome. I am a heavy and older rider, so again, it may not work for all.

@sarcasmisthelowest6 ай бұрын
If you buy a one x narrow wide crank you will need to file off about a 1.5 mm off each of the four (or five) arms. It might creak a bit at first if your filing in not that good. The holes should be in the right spot, check that though. But honestly I would just replace it with a new hollow tech cranks. The weight saving alone is worth it. Hollow tech is safer too. Just remember BSA bottom brackets both screw off forwards, peddles both backwards. Check your charity dump shop, or Ali Ex prices for budget options and tools to match. A pipe wrench will work if you’re not too concerned about the damaged look to your new BB. Good luck.

What is lower end for them? XCRs are perfectly serviceable, the shop likely just has no interest in them since they are simple to service and people won't do this at bike shops

@simonm1447 it was a xcm fork, I ended up buying a rockshox fork for a replacement.
@simonm14476 ай бұрын
@@mikerendell3899 XCM is more basic than XCR, but technically it's still serviceable. You get the plastic bushings and you can put some Sram butter on the stanchions. The thing is if you pay somebody to take it apart it might cost as much as a new fork, but some lbs are pretty arrogant here.

I started on a hardtail back in November with 100mm travel. A month later I bought a double suspension with 150mm travel. I was practicing every day with the hardtail up the hill I live at. First day with the DS I crashed hard after a rocky descent as my left break was too tight...Since then I gone back up with the DS and ripping it hard. That 50mm difference definitely is noticeable where I ride. It climbs 100 times easier and downhill is a beast...now I will upgrade it to 160mm with the rockshox upgrade kit...
