I'm not even trans but this reducing people to their genitals is super annoying. Also some of these pairs (the pizza especially but also some others) imply that a woman needs a man to be complete (and vice versa, although this did remind me about the many similar misogynist "jokes" about why men can fuck around but women should not, lock and key for example). We need more dino toilet in the world. Dino toilets were awesome!
@athousandlives72313 жыл бұрын
You had to bring up the lock and key thing. It makes me irrationally angry. Is it the sexism...sure...but also the argument is just illogical and dumb and I hate illogical and dumb things. So A) you are arguing your penis being inserted is acting as some sort of „magical key“? The same properties could be argued for every slightly cylindrical object, which...not great and B) As far as I know neither the penis nor vagina have any sort of grooves that would make the lock/key metaphor work in any way, shape or form, so what the heck are you even unlocking, Craig? Certainly not an orgasm with that attitude. (I don‘t know why Craig specifically came to mind but it seemed fitting) Rant over. As I previously stated very irrationally angry about this one. 🤷♀️
@FiddlebirdBlue3 жыл бұрын
There's a looong history, in medicine and philosophy, of believing or assuming that women and vaginas do in fact exist to accommodate men and penises. The word 'vagina' itself is derived from a root word meaning 'sheath', which is why I don't like to use it. Peak phallogocentrism.

With all due respect, I do not agree. People who have been through abuse or rape or any other sort of horrible situation like that can develop an uncomfortable feeling or fear of the opposite biological sex, like if a woman were in sex trafficking and was extremely uncomfortable with the idea of a man being in the general area while she pulls down her pants. If someone who’s biologically male walks in, imagine what that could do to her after what she’s been through. Same thing could happen with a guy going through this, too. It’s a real thing that real people deal with, I personally know a lady who has a fear of men after something of that sort happening to her. Men aren’t inherently bad, not at all, I love men, and like I said, the same thing could happen vice versa, but there are awful people out there who do things like this and create these victims who can’t help but be uncomfortable or afraid. No offence to trans people, you have my utmost respect, but this is why I do not support bathrooms for either sex or the allowance of trans people in the bathrooms of the gender they transferred to. You can chop off parts and take hormones and all that, but a trans female was still biologically born a guy and could trigger someone going through PTSD-type stuff with rape, abuse, or sex trafficking. I think the best solution is those one-room bathrooms for anyone to use privately. That could also help victims of, like, homosexual rape and the like who would feel uncomfortable with people of the same gender (that’s a thing, right? Idk, sorry, not too experienced with knowledge of that particular topic) Then again, those bathrooms are only available for one person at a time. Maybe buildings could make several. I don’t know.
@MusicalK932 жыл бұрын
@@FedoraLloyd Genuinely curious, definitely not trying to argue, so are you saying that Jamie should be using a female bathroom? Also, you get plenty of females who present very masculine, and non-binary people who may choose to present particularly androgenous. Which bathroom should they use so as not to scare a victim of abuse, such as those you talked about?

I really want to make a toilet with too doors, the signs on each door represent a random item that is changed every day/week. I really want people to spend 2-5 minutes trying to figure out weather the pair of glasses or the backed potato best suits their gender. Maybe the toppings on the potato are meant to represent something? Or is that fact that the glasses are round a hint? ... Whimsical gendered toilet signage has always irritated me. I think it first got some popularity in the UK in pubs about 20-30 years ago. I find the ones like "plug/socket" "gun/holster" particularly creepy, because it not only reduces down to gentialia, but is implicit about an assumed sexual function of that genitalia. It was a wondrous time when I went to a Wahaca restaurant where the toilets were a series of individual cubicle/rooms arranged around a large and open central handwashing area. First time I'd experienced gender neutral toilet set-up and - also being a cis-man who does not like urinals - it was an absolute joy.
@purplemonkfish3 жыл бұрын
pret also has gender neutral toilets, it's glorious. As do several of the kids play farms i've been to. One of them has a huge "family" bathroom where there's urinals riiiiight at the end behind a screen but otherwise it's all cubicles designed so families can stay together, dads can go in with their daughters and change nappies as well as most gents don't have changing facilities. All around it just works well. I don't understand why more places don't do that. I always hated having to stand outside while my kids went into the gendered bathrooms because once they reach a certain age they don't want to go into the "wrong" toilet anymore, it makes them feel uncomfortable so you have to stand outside hoping they're okay and with a closed door between you and your child who's in there with strangers. It's not ideal. Family bathrooms which are gender neutral should be the norm for places frequented by people with their kids and honestly? Short of places with a HUGE turnaround like stadiums, why are we still using urinals anyway? They make sense when you have like 1500 men and only limited space so want to get people in and out fast but regular cubicles make far more sense for just about everywhere else. It's not like we have urinals in our homes ffs.
@rachelcookie3212 жыл бұрын
My school has gender neutral bathrooms. Each little room has a toilet and a sink. I feel more comfortable using them because you get a room to yourself and not just a cubicle so you don’t have to worry about people being stupid and looking over the top or making noise. @@kiralonely1307 Okay, I could definitely get behind themed unisex bathrooms. One of my favourite... tropes (? Is that the right word?) is when people decide to gender bathrooms with such ridiculous ridiculousness that it confuses the cis as to which is supposed to represent which. If you want another strong historical woman to look into, one of my favourite historical figures is Julie d'Aubigny. She was a bisexual opera-singing master fencing duelist with such a wild life that we still don't know 100% what's fact and what's rumour. Highlights include a string of affairs with France's wealthy and powerful regardless of gender; getting banned from Paris for fatally beating a man in an illegal duel; crashing a royal ball in men's clothes and making out with a noble woman who caught her eye in the middle of the ballroom, soundly beating all three of the woman's furious suitors who challenged her to a duel for the woman's honour... and later getting pardoned by the King of France for the incident because she argued the law against dueling never mentioned it being illegal for women, only men; setting a[n already dead] nun's body on fire in a convent to cause a distraction in order to sneak her girlfriend - Cécilia Bortigali - out, after the girlfriend's father chucked her in the convent for dating another woman; getting pardoned by the King of France AGAIN after getting sentenced to death for the aforementioned incident, just because the Royal Opera wanted to hire her for "the most beautiful voice in the world"; stabbing herself in an on-stage operatic suicide scene so hard she drew blood with a prop sword; and when a man once challenged her during a public fencing exhibition, stating that no woman could ever be as talented with a sword, so she must really be simply a young, effeminate man, she ripped off her bodice and flashed her boobs at the audience to prove him wrong. Sorry. As a bisexual opera singer who dated a champion fencer, I can never resist the opportunity to fangirl over d'Aubigny.

The thing that infuriates me is when there are individual toilets but they are still gendered! I'm a teacher and we had to use a temporary location for school for a few months and the head tried to but gender signs on the toilet cubicles! (tl;dr below) Yeah. I work as a gardener on graveyards, and on one of them the toilets are out of order for months now. They put portable toilets outside and while I usually don't have to go on those because we only have a few graves there which means we don't spend to much time on this particular graveyard and I use the toilets on another one, this time I had to go because my co-worker wanted to make a (short) trip to the hardware store, so I didn't want to wait in the car holding it in. There where two portable toilets, in fact one with a men's and one with a women's sign. My co-worker asked me when I came back to the car if they even had signs, and I said yes 😅 Tl;dr: I had to go to a portable toilet once and there where two, in fact one had a men's and one a women's sign lol

Wish we could just separate toilets to urinals or stalls. Like, do you wanna stand in a line and see other people? Or do you wanna pee in peace?

I just wish that handicapped stalls were universally larger. My mother uses a wheelchair when she’s out in public. @@zeppie_ It's the same as cars on road signs not actually looking like the car you drive most of the time...recognisable symbology has its uses (the slippery road one always amuses me since the car would have to pass through itself to make the marks as shown; otoh I know what it means). If they have to have loos divided then presentation is a more sensible metric and people speak different languages or may be illiterate so icons will be used.

5:06 I remember hearing somewhere that some genetics classes in university stopped the practice of letting their students take genetics tests because people would realise that they had non-X X/Y chromosomes and have identity crises, because sex chromosomes are not just XX and XY

I read that too!!! That they just don't do it, or even promote it, cause it was interfering with the like uni exams cause people would have whole identity crisises, which is so telling of how likely it is that intersexionality in terms of chromosomes is way more common than we assume it to be.
@kiralonely13072 жыл бұрын
@@GlaciesYin Honestly, I'm tempted to get tested, but I feel like part of me would be very disappointed if it was XX. Cause I'm a trans dude and in a lot of ways, my body feels like it's really tried to be male, even against the odds, and I guess I like the idea that I might be XY and my body just got a little confused, rather than having the process be that my brain is "wrong" or not the sex often associated with my genitals. It's just a weird place I'm at tbh. I hope one day it wouldn't bother me, like, I'm very secure in my manhood, but I'm not sure if I want to risk losing the part of me that holds onto th idea that my body just had a slip up in utero, instead of it being my brain, so to speak. (Not that being trans is a "slip up" in terms of like existing, but in relation to the cis binary bullshit spewed so often. While I don't like to associate most "sex based" things with gender and am well aware that even chromosomes mean jack shit in relation to sex as a whole, it's correlation not causation imo, there's something about that specific thing that bugs me a little and has stuck with me.)
