It sort of is in a funny way actually! The term "straight" wasn't coined until the 1900s meaning to "go on the straight and narrow" and 'ex-gays' used to be said to have "went straight". So in a way, yeah, it is gay to be straight because it was used as a way of saying someone was normal instead of gay. Also, homosexual isn't that old of a term either and the true, literal definition of heterosexual seems a little aggressive if you look at it lol. Sorry for the info dump, I just learned this recently and love to share knowledge 💜

@macularius3 жыл бұрын
My assumption would be that the intended humor of the "don't even think about dating my daughter" one was that it was originally just a photo of a standard overprotective toxic-masculinity bumper sticker and someone edited in the bottom row of text? It ... doesn't really address the issue raised by the original sentiment and reads as more of a childish "this guy is probably homophobic too so I'm gonna call him GAY, that'll teach him" thing, but I could still see someone doing that.

Can i ask you something? I'm trying to ask several people to see different reactions So this is really unrelated but i wanted to talks about this to see what different communities/ channels think. However there isn't a large possibility op will see this so this is mostly for the comments to see. This isn't particularly crazy I just wanna know if I'm being sensitive about this. So Disney changed the phrase "ladies and gentlemen, Boys and girls" to "dreamers of All ages" and evryone is freaking out because they think we are being sensitive snowflakes for wanting a gender neutral terms. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal. I just don't think it's fair. They wanna talk about culture and times when media didn't happen? Gotchu well even back then in many cultures. Like Hawaii for example. Had healers and gender neutral people. Besides the fact that culture and being inclusive is there, there is also a possibility Disney also did it to make the phrase more simple if that makes sense. It's just easier to say that to be honest. But anyways in conclusion i want to know if I'm right here or if I'm being way to sensitive and this isn't how Walt would want it? 'If there's meaning behind it, I am on board' - The Beano's Pride efforts this year were surprisingly good, and a damn sight more aware of what Pride is about than most Pride stuff aimed at kids, from what I saw of them. Stuff about when Section 28 was lifted, stuff about Pride being a protest, etc. All surface level stuff, most of it was in the form of quizzes aimed at 8-year-olds, but in that context? Pretty good.

@AAAAAAA-dm5nk3 жыл бұрын
Hi i'm not Jami but i felt as if i could help anyways haha. If you aren't ready to come out just play out as you not liking that name anymore. For example many people change their names because they don't like the name. Or they got married. Or dozens of other reasons. You could just say that name feels more comfortable for you in the sense you just like the name better. If they continue to ask you why you don't like the name maybe say the name is shorter or more practical? Talks bout a celebrity you inspired the name from. Just insist that name is better and more suitable for you, telly our friends who you are out to use that name in front of your family. It will show them you are already using that name and will probably convince them to just start using it anyways. Try to say your name AS MUCH as possible, chances are if they are still in deniale of using it they will get confused and use it by accident because it so relevant in conversations. if you convince them it could work and you can continue being closeted and come out at your own pace. Best of luck to you *from your very own frog potatoe* 😌❤️
@Absbabs883 жыл бұрын
I know you didn't ask me, but I feel asking to go by another name is something that just happens from time to time, especially in school. My cis best friend back then did the same thing, because she just suddenly wanted to be called Janelle. You don't owe anyone any explanation as to why, and perhaps if you feel comfortable and you think your teacher will support it, maybe you can ask them to make a class announcement so everyone knows. Something simple like "please call them (name) now." Anyways, I hope that all works out for you.

Autocorrect usually connects to the internet (especially if you have an Android phone with a Google keyboard) so it selects the most likely options for what you typed, based on all the other user's data. I've had chicken nuggets corrected to chicken [racial slur] on a new phone and I've never in my life used that word nor would i. luckily i was among friends who knew that so i didn't end up with social death but i now have a running joke about my old racist phone (i got a new one as soon as possible after it happened and haven't had the issue since, though this phone thinks it's a comedian and makes conical mistakes most often when I'm talking to upset friends. so they laugh and feel better. art least this phone is possessed by something kind instead of by an old white man)

I have had the worst day and honestly you saying your phone makes "conical" mistakes instead of "comical" made me laugh so hard. The humor in the bump sticker is of the 'well that went different than expected' variety. It starts with a super toxic thing that's considered normal (a man taking way too much interest in his daughter's dating/sex life) and ending it with gay because the sort of person who generally would say the first thing completely seriously is generally going to be very cis-het manly man. The very toxically cis-het manly man being a closeted gay trope is one that I'm not super fond of, but it's what this joke is built on.
