Ever since I saw you playing along with Coltrane's "Giant Steps" solo, I'm confident that there's nothing you couldn't do. So, when I read the title, I was just like "Yep, of course he can!" ;-)

Wow. Wow. Thanks for preaching the necessities of woodshedding! Now, that I am teaching at a high school and hearing my students practicing new and harder music it's important to help them learn the effective way. I am so glad to hear your continued growth and progress as a musician. I have some very talented clarinet and saxophone players and I think they would all love this! Hope to talk and catch up with you soon! Cheers!! (BTW; you have me really thinking about my budget to see if I can finance a bass clarinet, THANKS haha) -OAS AAS LLS

Absolutely incredible! And thanks for the inspiration. I've always thought of myself as someone who just can't play fast. But really, I think it's mainly a lack of self-discipline. I'll get to it .....

Amazing. And I doubt it's easier on bass clarinet than it is on tenor thanks Chuck

Thank you for this, it is very kind to show to us your method. Basically I use the same. I bought a bass clarinet one years ago and after 8 months of classic exercise music, I had a full immersion with God Bless The Child by Eric Dolphy...everyday for hours and hours for months with this concept of study. Now I can play on tempo. This will be my second mission: Michael Brecker solo on Night in Tunisia!!! I don't know if I can, but I will try. Thank you man!!!

@earspasm music Quite an achievement! Especially that brecker played that on a sax, which I’d say is way easier to play fast except for huge interval leaps which are easier on a clarinet. One note on the Anytune - I use it rigged to a Behringer fcb1010 foot controller and it’s a great way to use it for transcribing. I have speed and volume on pedals and the stomp buttons are usually rigged for smart loop, back/fwd 5s, back/fwd to next mark, play/pause and mark. Works great.

This is fantastic. So honest and useful. Once you've got it to this level, how long does it stay there? Do you have to play it several times a day, or once a day or week or whatever. Does getting something to this level help with playing other stuff? I've only ever seen you playing "contemporary" music before - with extended techniques. It's great to see you do this stuff as well. You are inspiring.
@earspasm3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I’d need to continue to play it pretty often to keep it under my fingers. Or, I’d have to start slower (maybe half tempo) to bring it back up if I wait for more than a few months. That process won’t take nearly as long as the first time though!
