Great video. All those circuit boards on that boiler makes it look like space age, compared to mine! My boiler, from the same company, before VALLIANT bought them out, GLOWORM fuel saver Mk2, fitted 1989. Love your work young man. Cheers.

Do you remember the even older Vaillants with just a few rocker switches behind the front cover? My parents had one installed at their office in 1987 and it lasted for about 15 or 20 years. There used to be a YT video somewhere, fixing the world's oldest combi boiler or something along those lines. At home my parents had a 1977 Junkers-Bosch combi until 2012. Apart from needing a new expansion vessel (ended up fitting a cheap external one instead) in 2008 or so it still worked fine but no longer met emissions standards. That's right, they required people to replace working boilers just because of new emissions regs. That boiler still had a pilot light that you had to light with matches! Occasionally a particularly strong gust of wind down the chimney would blow the pilot out. Two knobs (hot water temperature and flow temperature) and three rocker switches (on/off, heating on/off and heating half/full power if I remember correctly), and a round combi gauge, flow temperature and pressure.

Dan, if you ever see those grohe buttons, 99% is the Air bellows need changing. You just pop the front cover off and pull out the bellows. You don't need to get to the back 🤓 easy . In and out in 5 minutes. I always keep two in the van. They always go.

That Vailiants not that old........ I see a 242 circa 1986/7 ish IIRC, every year for service, still going strong. I don't know who will "give up" first, the boiler or the elderly owner! Oldest appliance I service is a AGA cooker from 1950, Its on its 3rd burner/controls, as far as I know the rest of it is OG !
@Heatking7 ай бұрын
How old would you say this one was mate? I’ve no idea. Lol
@julianhawker76727 ай бұрын
@@Heatking Mid 90's perhaps , I changed a vessel in one a couple of years ago but don't see them that often anymore. I still have a few old Baxi 552 bbu's (various fire fronts) and freestanding Ideal Mexico's , all from the 80's Proper good kit! The original Mexico's are the most reliable boiler ever made IMHO and if you change the thermocouple every couple of services: hardly ever breakdown, even these days when they are getting on for 40 yrs old .

Would you ever consider ebay for sourcing PCBs? I've had great success with them from there for refurb PCBs. Sometimes £100s of savings compared to sourcing locally. Edit: I think that delivery time and warranty is the issue, getting the boiler back up and giving heat etc. with reliable returns. Ebay sellers are usually 24hr delivery though and the savings are massive.
