Now, the stuck valves.....
You guessed it, the dozer is only running on 2 outa 4 jugs. Since the motor is on life support, I thought it would be a good candidate to test honing while running with diatomaceous earth or... BON AMI

@@countrylife4195 you can use the adapters off a compression tester, or you can buy specific plug adapters. I've used them a couple times to change valve seals on some of my old cars in the past.

Grip the valve stem with a drill and rotate it while pulling up- then reverse the drill and do it again. that will clear the rust from the guide and help seat the valve in the seat.

1:30 "I secretly have to tell my wife I bought a fork lift" It's a whole lot easier to ask for forgiveness, than it is to ask for permission. BTW, I have watched some videos where the motor was either DOA or just missing, on a, old farm tractor. The creator got the largest Harbor Freight Predator motor available, and, with a bit of welding for a new deck for the motor, and some gearing, not only did the old tractor run, but it was able to pull large tree stumps out of the ground, and move large boulders.

Find yourself a Compression guage that will remove the guage like a air compressor valve, Hook it up to the compressor to hold up the valves, But after you get this ol boy running again run it with a half pint of ATF transmission oil in the crankcase tranny oil is a detergent will remove most of the chalac out of the motor done it for decades on my old Ford trucks run it till it smoothed right out, You will go Holy Shxt incredible then do oil change.

Especially if the spring is not compressed all the way, you can often free them just by tapping on them with a nonferrous hammer or a brass punch, often many soft little taps. I have even seen people use small, steel hammers with without visible damage or apparent problems.

if you can turn the valve stems after they move up and down will free up. it's varnish on the valve stems and guides. valves usually auto rotate somewhat when running.

I'll admit that seeing the amount of PB Blaster and Brake Clean used to get the valves free had me half expecting the first decent spark to blow the sump off the engine, or at least geyser engine oil out of the pushrod holes. Good outcome anyway.

to hold a valve in place with the head still on you get an old spark plug and gut it then weld / braze / solder / what ever an air fitting to it and hook up a air line and give it 20PSI or more , it will stay in place easly long enough to put the colits and spring back on
@rupe53
@rupe53 3 жыл бұрын
Adverse ... that only works if you can maintain the air pressure, which is usually not something a DIY can do. The problem is the air will also push the piston down and if the pressure goes away the valve falls into the cylinder. Best bet is to stuff a piece of clothes line in there and bring the piston up by hand to hold the valve. If you get sidetracked then everything will stay in place forever. When done, turn the engine the other way and pull the rope out.
@AdversityZone
@AdversityZone 3 жыл бұрын
@@rupe53 20psi will not turn the motor over and when did i say put air in there and then take it away? no you plug in the air line and leave it there till the job is done that job would take all of 2 min as you can see with what they did PS:- i am a retired motor mech and did just what i described over and over in my 30 years
@rupe53
@rupe53 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdversityZone ... retired mechanic of 50 years myself and know that few DIY guys have the option of regulated air down that low and, yes, 20 psi can turn a tired motor over... and air can go away if your compressor can't keep up or are using a portable tank. The air trick is best if you have a short job. The rope trick will allow you to leave it overnight or perhaps a trip to the parts store. Also costs pennies, everyone has some, and no power required. I always keep a few feet handy in my tool box. I have used it on my personal car while on the road along with a small spring compressor.
