My mom loves to tell people about the time I was in my elementary school's spelling bee and doing really well, and then when I got the "do you want to come to lunch or finish the bee" ultimatum because the contest took longer than expected, I immediately chose lunch with no second thoughts lol

12:40 to be fair, his pronunciation was so bad as well as the definition. 😂 I speak German and live in Germany and I had no idea what he was saying till you wrote out the word. It means original language.

We have loan words from many languages! Schadenfreude is a good example of a German word we use (fairly) commonly. I think German is probably more common in academic circles because they also publish a lot/developed some important fields like psychology. @@sarahzendejas4266

when i was in 6th grade, i spelled “veteran” wrong. but in my defense, the person telling me the word said “vetran”. that’s how she pronounced it. i still think about that and how unfair that is 😂
