Question for you: Why do taxidermists entirely repaint fish like that? As an aquarist, preserving my pets has always been something I'd like to do but I don't entirely get why the whole thing is repainted. Do the colors just fade?

Hi! Another question- I'm kind of struggling to see the point of the fish skin? Like if there's going to be a ton of clay and paint on top of it anyways, why not make the fish from scratch? (Though I guess there is a lot of skin texture that seems really hard to replicate?) I get filling in holes and damage spots- my aunt taxidermies mammals and will fill in patches of the fur or cartilage that were damaged by the process- but painting over the fish and covering a ton of the head with clay seems to me to go against the purpose of preserving the fish?

Hey there, i wantet to thank you. Years ago when i was in....9th grade or so i found you because of your majoras mask project. Pretty quickly i was fascinated by your work and ive probably seen all of your videos by now. Youve inspired me to follow my passion for art, starting with just drawing and painting but then also woodwork, stonework and eventually even bones and actual blacksmithing. I got a rotary carver from a friend, pretty weai one tho and whenever i get a creative idea and also have time, i will disappear into the garage for about 10h and make something. Now i am in uni, studying design and game art and it is largely because of when i was in a bad place back in 9th grade, i found your channel and your positivity and creativity helped me and inspired me. So thank you for that and thank you for being honest and real about your projects and how sometimes, stuff fails but that thats not the end and you can still create amazing stuff out of failed ideas and how if something isnt working, to try a different approach.

I love seeing how you approach a new skill! Super interesting and great video (as always). It was nice to see your usual narration explain how and why you do something but with a real noticeable nod to ‘I’m doing thing because I’m following new instructions and the guidance of others’ It is inspiring to me to see you not just try something new but really commit to research and practice and (at least with what you shared in this video) an acceptance to try something different. Sometimes I’ve seen videos of ‘TRYING XYZ FOR THE FIRST TIME!!’ and they go into it blind (perhaps for content/comedy purposes) and are subsequently not very good at it..! It’s lovely to see your respect for a whole new kind of work and the learning it requires! Always a breath of fresh air on your channel Bobby :-)

The only part about this process I don't understand is painting the entire fish to look like what it looked like before you painted it. Now it just looks fake? why not just make a fake one? It no longer looks like a real fish. Super cool video. The techniques are interesting.

Because you can't just leave the real fish in open air. The skin will shrink and start to smell really bad. That's why you have to use chemical stuff preserve it.

When a fish is taxidermied, it is often painted to accurately replicate its original colors and markings because a dead fish's skin tends to lose its vibrant coloration over time, making painting necessary to create a lifelike representation for display purposes.

Yeah it occurred to me that he did so much to transform it that he perhaps didn't need the actual fish part. I guess it's like, just used as a template. A really rough template. The irony 😂

Hello! Spray 77 works well on pink foam, you can get it at most hardware stores. You just have to be careful not to spray too much in one spot or it will try to eat the foam, a light misting works best. Then if you press the two sides you're trying to stick together together and then gently pull them apart a few times until it gets tacky you can then press them back together and clamp or weight them and it should work. That's the method I used in design school when I was making lots of pink foam models and would need to layer foam to cut on the bandsaw

First you made an under Seaworld and use clay to make your fish. And now this. Thank you again for letting us watch the progression of your artistic talent. P.S. Haven't seen much yet, but all i can say is YESSS thank you! All the taxidermy videos online (aside from the brain scoop) are all poorly filmed, yeehaw hunter type guys and its not very entertaining! Entertaining is what helps me remember and be interested. I know this is the first time you're doing this, but i bet it will be the NEW first video to watch for many budding taxidermists out there!

From what I heard (either through yt or reddit) the better help therapists arent all licenced profesionals (or they specialise in a specific type of therapy), they don't always give the right type of therapy to the right person, canceling is hell, and it just doesn't seem like its worth the money.

There are so many serious problems with them, I highly recommend you look further into it. Among these issues are: some therapists on the platform not being licensed professionals (despite BetterHelp's promises otherwise), therapists on there being overstretched, the fact that they advertise that "hey! On our platform you can message your therapist any time of day if youre having a rough time!" - proper boundaries in a therapeutic setting are very important and the therapist also needs to be able to disconnect from work - and perhaps the crown jewel in the crown of shit is that they have been found to sell patients' sensitive personal medical information. Definitely a horrid company!

South Asian here. I know most of the wierd veggies shown in the start, so here's a handy guide. 0:06 - loofah plant (wetakolu) you can male a curry out of it. It's also the same thing that makes those natural loofah. You have to let it fully mature and dry in the vine and peel to reveal the fibers. We eat it when the fruit is young so no fibres developed yet (for the most part) 0:15 - bitter gourd (katavila) really bitter.... gourd. No other way to say it. You can cut it into really tiny pieces and make a dense salad. My mom makes a curry but it's bitter and idk why people eat these honestly. In either case, you have to use something sour to cut through the bitterness. People say it's good for lowering your blood sugar. And other studmff too because it's a really green vegetable. 0:48 - Aloe Vera (komarika) but most people know this. Another bitter thing that idk why people eat this. To compliment the bitterness, its simy too. My culture doesn't eat this as a food really, but we use this for traditional medicine. So you might end up having to eat some anyway. Probably there are some east Asian cousins that have Aloe Vera based food. 0:50 - Idk the English name (murunga) its just a vegetable. The inside is like beans and tastes pretty much the same too. But you can't eat the peel it's really woody. We cook it in a curry (no surprises here) and you have to scrape the flesh from the peel. Bit annoying, but it's really nice. Traditionally considered to cool down the body. Fun fact- these grow in really tall trees that are really fragile. It doesn't really have a wood and these trees are fist things to come down when there is a fast wind.
