Great Video! Thanks for including us in it! That’s a proper wash! It’s important people know how necessary it is to keep your coating decontaminated and maintained. It’s often talked about, but not often done. Coating maintenance regiments are extremely important and can vary depending on the type of coating, your environment where you live and what your specific vehicle goes through in its daily life. If you have a Ceramic Coated Vehicle make sure you have a Decon Regiment in place! We are here to help if anyone has questions about what’s right for your vehicle.

Hey Chris. I find it wild that a year ago we were sharing a meal at that Greek place in Chicago and here we are a year later chatting about ceramic coating maintenance on my KZbin channel. I think the past few months with this coating has taught me that regular maintenance washes may not always be enough to maintain a coating's hydrophobic performance. I am still not convinced I have flushed all the minerals out of the coating. I completely agree that the environment where you live is a determining factor in how that coating will perform on a vehicle. Let me ask you, how confident are you that the VEROS coating you sent me will stand up to the absolute shitstorm of abuse my car sees up here?

As Canadian winters go, the one here on the Rock is heading for the top five for sure! I don’t use ceramic coatings for several reasons but I do use a ceramic paint sealant from Jescar. I can get 8-9 months from it before I know it’s gone. Part of my spring decontamination process includes CarPro’s Descale. It really does remove any lingering sealants and detail sprays. Good luck and I am very jealous of your setup. Hope this solves your problem and yet another home run video. Till the next one.

I was thinking how much work I put into maintaining my coating, then started thinking about your average person and how it would be virtually impossible for them to go through what I go through. It does make you wonder if going with a liquid ceramic coating is the best solution given the weather challenges we face.

Rick the Audi looks much better now and is well protected. I use the same process for decontamination with three ounces of lift in the foam cannon because I want the product to cling to the paint. Then I rinse and use four ounces of descale in the soap bucket. For the mineral remover I keep a microfiber soaking in the bucket and clean each panel with one spray into the microfiber towel and one spray on the panel. In conjunction with the iron removal process this works every time for me. I do like how lift and descale pour out easily from the measuring cup into the foamer or bucket. As always your production is beyond amazing as you’re a very talented producer. Thank you for the video Rick!

I thought my regular maintenance wash routine was enough to keep things fresh. I will have to do a few more "decon" washes throughout the winter to give my coatings a fighting chance of survival. I have been doing a lot of highway driving up to see my Grandma in Red Deer and that road grime pulverizing the sides and back of my car at the speeds I travel the QE2 is on par with commercial sandblasting, if you ask me. I now see there was a lot of mineral hiding in the coating that the regular maintenance washes just weren't getting to.

Hi Rick ! I fully agree with you the SQ5 is still a head turner. According to me, the hydropohobics are definitely back to a fair state compared to your previous wash process. To be honest with you, I did not expect the coating to react as well as it did. I mean, after dealing with wildfire fallout last summer and the incredible amount of grime mixed with road salt this winter, your "RAD Wash" process was for sure the best combo ever to revive your protection... I have seen coatings totally ruined after less that one year due to car not properly maintained or heavy contamination. Your SQ5 is definitely performing very well, not as much as you'd expect I guess but still... Please continue enjoying it every day. Thanks for that nice content Stay RAD Gregg

I too am having similar issues with my Gyeon MOHS coating I applied this summer. It was super hydrophobic in summers bc of the continual upkeep but this winter I wasn’t able to wash the car sometimes with months between washes. The coating isn’t beading as much rather sheeting, I can feel contaminants in the paint and will do a decon wash in the warmer weather however the use of a claying device will leave light swirls bc of the soft nature of my paint. Feel like I’m in a corner now, but usually an iron decon and tar decon do the job will try that water spot remover it seems like it really did the job.

The softer nature of this coating turned out to be a bit of a detriment in terms of warding off the impact of our brutal winter conditions. I haven't had to perform such thorough decon washes on perviously installed coatings. But, with a little rejuvenation using a Water Spot Remover and Iron Remover, I got it back to an acceptable level of performance.

Hey Rick, I do the exact same steps to decon my Audi. Maybe it's overkill, but I add a tar removal step just to be sure. And yeah, I'm sure my coating combo will bounce back but, like yours, it won't be the same as freshly applied... 'clogging' areas are the hood and front doors. Still, I find the SQ5 looking pretty good! Much love from Belgium 👍🏻

Tar removal too! My washes already take all day! 😂 As I said in the video, I am semi-happy with the results. I have learned a valuable lesson that coatings require more than good maintenance washes when they are facing the onslaught of chemical/mineral abuse this one has seen. I think it has a lot to do with the increased amount of driving I have been doing this winter as compared to others and much of that mileage has been on highways.

The KZbin library is suspect at best. I am always dealing with the placement and removal of copyright claims on the music I use. The artists will allow me to use their music, but some of them have representation and those labels subscribe to the Content ID on KZbin. It's a real pain, but it's a pain I feel is worth enduring. I see why people use Artlist, Epidemic et al. It's way easier, but you are limited.

I think that last bucket wash might not have rinsed away fully, the water behavior looked better after the water spot remover. That definitely brought it back pretty well in my opinion. Nano Resin Pro is definitely more of a sheeter than a beader from everything I have heard. I'd say it looks pretty good considering the beating it has taken with that wildfire ash and your winters up there. Quick tip with the decontamination towel, dunk it in your wash bucket (for extra lubrication) and then fold it twice so you have some extra cushion (less pressure points). Work it with long strokes and no pressure until you no longer feel any contamination.

Dang, I was hoping lift, descale, iron remover, water spot remover & a Ph neutral soap finisher would bring it back to 100% hydrophobicity. It looks to be definitely improved but still not perfect in many sections of the car. Its definitely beading and sheeting but we both know what that should look like when it’s perfect. Like u said, the fire fallout may have cooked the coating beyond deep repair, as well as all the constant salt and snow. Do u plan on a fresh polish and new coating in the spring? I’d highly recommend artdeshine nano graphene coating Rick. When I got my car coated they provide a 7 year guarantee on the hydrophobicity :) the biggest difference I saw between my previous Gyeon ceramic coating and graphene is the water spot resistance with graphene, it’s almost immaculate. Definitely beads and sheets I feel much better as well compared to a ceramic coating. The candy gloss is amazing.
@RADGarage11 ай бұрын
The area that let me down the most was the rear hatch below the wiper. I was really hoping to see the hydrophobics bounce back, but that is probably the portion of the vehicle that takes the brunt of winter abuse. As a "KZbinr", I think I will bow to the pressure of installing a new coating come Spring. I just have too many options thanks to the generosity of others. What coating I will apply is still not decided. I applied Artdeshine on a 1976 BMW 2002 a few years ago. It is an amazing coating. Part of me wants to conduct some sort of campaign where companies compete for the "honour" of being used on my SQ5!

Nice video and its still shining strongly underneath. I wonder if it might be asking a bit much expecting the ceramic to be beading like early application days. Open question to you, which you may have already thought about - thats a heck of a lot of work, steps, processes, products (and cost?) and time to go through to maintain the ceramic. Your weather conditions look extremely harsh. Does the ceramic provide something that a long lasting liquid sealant wouldn't? You could reasonably assume that the sealant would be worn off with that type of grit and grime but if the ceramic is also having a hard time and you need to go through so many steps to revive it then couldn't you equally just do a deep clean and apply another layer of sealant in the same scenario? Interesting condundrum perhaps, is it worth it!
@RADGarage11 ай бұрын
Get out of my head! I am thinking exactly what you are saying. What is the benefit of applying a liquid ceramic if it requires this level of maintenance? I think of all the cars I have applied coatings to and I know those owners do not have the capacity to care for it they way I do. I think there is a good case to be made that using a spray sealant makes as much, if not more sense that a liquid one. I think the harder coatings are more suited to the conditions here. This elastomeric coating struggles to stay effective. Lots of food for thought.

@@RADGarage Haha hey I'm starting to think the same man! I'm over the pond from you, we don't get winters quite like you but we have our fair share of muck and grime on the roads at this time. You wash the car and it'll be dirty again after a few drives. But, in my case, some spring pollen plus subsequent hot days last year has knackered my CSL, and I paid a pro to polish and apply it! Now, I have no beading (need to give a decon wash a go but I'm not expecting it to suddenly revive back as I don't think, in reality, they work like magic) and the pollen etched my paint. Thats without current winter scenarios. I can't keep on top of it everytime so even for someone in the 'middle bracket', that enjoys detailing but not fully devoted to it or without a fancy garage setup like you, its still not worked as I'd hoped...But you're right the more regular people who aren't going to buy all these products I wonder what they are experiencing come spring clean time, I dont think they'll even bother washing it right now...! For me, I wonder if just going back to a decent wax that I wash and just reapply as needed might suffice and during winter a more durable spray application product thats quick to apply...hmmm! 🤔 Isn't what you've applied a full on hard curing ceramic? Its only hanging on on the horizontal panels like the bonnet.
