So I cannot put it on a SUV if the existing transponder has a sedan registered, correct?

Yes you can but there's gonna be a penalty

No there's no fee. I work there but we dont recommend because if that transponder fails to read then the tag is captured and if that tag isnt associated with a MD ezpass the driver of the tags captured will receive the bill.

The best thing to do is to add your friends tags to your ez pass account. You can always remove when not using it. Remember with an EZ pass acct you can have up to 10 vehicles.
