Patty, Great video! One can also create an International Business in Panama & employ themselves. Even if they are a medical professional in another country, they can be a consultant. So, they can have a residency & a business. But they will to have it properly set up.

Thank you for this video! There are barely any videos about working in Panama and what people are doing who aren't looking for a pensionado visa. Interviewing expats on their stories has to be the way to go for content. It's lacking. Also, keep on going!!! You've got this!!

Hi Patty, So sorry to hear of the lean months you have endured - I remember being unemployed and is was a terrible combination of grief and loss of stature - but when worked through - we are all much more than our business card description and no matter how strong and bad the current storm may seem (Hurricane Helene in WNC) every bad storm will eventually run out of rain - We can all help each other - emotionally financially and encouragement - I plan to be back in in PTY over Christmas week and my Happy Christmas present to me is to stay a few days in Yacht Club Tower - Love your videos and references to nature and old philosophers - glad you have eventually fixed the roof leak !! You should be CA Ambassador to Panama !!

so what about renting out your air B&B? How do you do that since you are actually making money in Panama? It's not really 'working', but you are making money there. Can you do that with a Pensionado visa? Really not worth it if you cannot even employ yourself. And I have seen many that SAID they were going there on the Pensionado visa but are obviously doing things to make money... for example, the Tuesday market has lots of expats selling various things. Or being tour guides. Or house sitting.... How does that work? is that the 'gray' area or are they skirting the law?

Yes! those are the grey areas 😄Technically, anyone on the pensionado visa shouldn't be selling goods/services. They can own a business, though. And 'technically' tour guides are supposed to be licensed by the government. It's quite a rigorous education and test they have to go through. This is where Panama is a bit of the wild west - some things aren't enforced. With the friendly nations visa, like mine, you can operate a business. Housesitting in Panama is typically a free exchange, so that's not really considered working. But if they were getting paid, yes, grey area again.

It depends on the type of residency visa you get. Ask your immigration attorney and they will advise you. I don't think that's a protected profession. And it also depends where in Panama you'll want to live and work. I do know for restaurants, you'd need not only your work permit but also a food handler's license.

You might want to check into salaries in Panama first, wages are low here.
