Great videos, I enjoy watching all your videos, they are very informative. I did want to make a quick correction about the trash pick up and the Pollera. Having been born and raised in Panama, I can tell you that even though trash pick up is not the best compared to the US, trash pick up started well beyond 20 years ago, especially in Panama City and similar larger cities. The history of the Pollera is not as simplistic as a skirt used to shew away chickens. Calling it or describing it as, a “chicken skirt” may be offensive to many Panamanian. There are also Polleras tailored differently and with different historical meanings. I have many family members who dance in the Pollera and have taken the time to teach us the historical value of the Pollera. My grandmother and my aunts would wear it in Portobelo during the festivals and I would also participate and dance along them. Thank you so much for your videos. I enjoy them all and because of you I have learned a few things about El Valle I didn’t know.
@Pattybluehayes24 күн бұрын
@@robh2312 Thanks for the information! I got the ‘chicken skirt’ info from the exhibit at the Victoriano Lorenzo Museum here in town. But I know there must be different significance, because the styles are different. If you can send me info, my email is patty@pattybluehayes.com It would be amazing if Panama could implement clean-burn incinerators. But those are very expensive.

1st of all. If you come to Panama, JUST RENT a place. Stay there for a couple months and move to the next areas. Panama has over 100 micro climates. Then you have to figure out if you like the neighborhood, and - most importantly - how the weekends are. I lived 10 months in Playa Uverito. It’s a very nice beach community - BUT! We couldn’t sleep from Friday till Sunday late afternoon. 60-200 cars showing up, playing loud music with their boom boxes in the cars. Imagine you have to listen to 30 different songs, vibrating metal & class at the same time! And the absolute worst? People pee all over the places - because there are no washrooms! On Monday, you can collect all the garbage in the street and on the beach! It is actually sad to see the place I lived in this video. The old owner, Canadian, was trying to sell the place - as usually far overpriced. Looks like nobody takes care of it now. The building is directly across the public beach parking area. The owner was always on my back. “You should buy it!” - repeating story every week. And one thing people. Panama and small beach community. You are every week for a couple hours without electricity! No electricity- no water - no internet! I live now 5 years in Panama. I know what I am talking about. 😊 And if you are looking for a property. Especially Americans! Do NOT START: “OMG! Do you know how much this would cost me in the USA?” Kinda talk please! That’s when you get ripped off! And Americans always get ripped off. I have seen it many times. And if you ever like to sell it again. Nobody will give you the same money back. Properties are for years on the market or just stay empty and fall apart in Panama. - Pedasi : If you like to live in little “USA” that’s a place to go. Lots of Americans. Same with Coronado. If you can’t stay without your countrymen. Why would you want to move to a different country? And one advice. Don’t yell at people because they don’t speak English! I have no idea why Americans are that rude! Do I speak Spanish? Nooo. But I respect the local people. I get what I am looking for - talking with hand and feet and lots of help from local people! Show respect and people will respect you!

@@holgermessner851 So many good points you made. I did exactly that, ‘I couldn’t buy this in the states!’ And it blinds you from thinking clearly or seeing reality! Power went out while I was there. And if you don’t have a generator, you get hot and irritable fast if you’re trying to get work done.

@@Pattybluehayes Tell me about it. I’m building my house myself. Waiting now since October 2022 for power in a small 22 lot development area. Just yesterday the Naturgy engineer showed up to “mark” the geo locations of the power posts and lines in the area. I just thought: Is it already Christmas? 🎅 - Hot? Tell me about it. I can’t count how often I got a “new face” with my skin pealing off. And my lady at home? “Why are you always so red when you get home…” Right. No shade and she is asking me that after 5-8 hours of work in the sun. Well. There is one good thing. I got permanent white “socks” from the sun, working in shorts 🩳. 😂
